Report CMDR USS Spruence. While on patrol we encountered a Soviet naval task force engaging a Norwegian fishing trawler. We moved to engage and sank the task force but was unable to save to allied trawler... Yeah, that'll work.

Yeah, I was stationed on the USS Comte De Grasse DD-974, flagship of DESRON 2 - a real SpruCan from 89-91 as an HT. It was decommissioned several years ago. A lot of great memories, pretty cool video

Ray Spruance is my favourite American Admiral. Played by Canadian Glenn Ford in Midway 1976. Later in the war Spruance shared an alternating command with Halsey. The people under them may have loved the colourful Halsey, but complained about disorganised and confusing orders. They were much happier working for a consummate professional such as Spruance. I can say the exact same about Patton and Bradly. Colourful chaos vs. consummate professional.

In Pearl Harbor the movie a line of spruance destroyers were taken out by Japanese torpedo bombers. It was a great destroyer. Arleigh burkes are awesome but would be better with 2 5 inch guns

The Harpoons were an upgrade to the Spruance and were in two quad cannister mounts not in the VLS aa depicted. The ASROC/Tomahawk 61-cell Mark 41 VLS launcher replaced the ASROC 8-cell launcher. Other upgrades included x2 CIWS and in some ships a 21-cell RIM-116 RAM launcher fitted aft of the Sea Sparrow launcher.

Most sprucans didn't have VLS, early builds had a single launcher, later builds got twin arm launchers, only the last few built got the VLS.

The Ticonderoga class cruisers were built on the same hull as the Spruance class with either twin launchers or VLM instead of Sea Sparrow and ASROC, that being said, this Spruance is missing her port and starboard triple MK46 torpedo launchers which the Tico class has.

Just wanted to say that last ship coming straight at you would have been hit with every 5: shell. They didn't miss a target that wasn't trying to avoid. I remember gunnery practice on our Spruance at maximum range for a normal 5" shell. You couldn't even see the tow boat unless you were using binoculars. We were suppose to deflect a couple degrees to hit just in back of the target barge. First two shots, direct hits. LOL. End of gunnery practice.
