Perfect approach. The entire premise of the show is a business pitch "I walk into your house and ask for a million dollars of YOUR money because trust me bro." Entrepreneurs always weaving in some trauma to leverage a deal when at the end of the day it's nothing more than dollars and cents.

I think they were trying to paint a picture of two very humble and nice entrepreneurs and I think the sharks saw right through it. Also did anyone notice when she was talking about her dad Kevin said oh that's too bad with the most serious, unsympathetic expression ever lol

She literally grew up a multi-millionaire and tried to play the angle of humble beginnings. I wonder where their capital, financial safety net and time allocated for them both to work full time in this business came from LOL
@topspot4834
@topspot4834 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. She didn't have to throw that in. She was looking for sympathy and they painted themselves as something they aren't. If we saw this in the edited version (these can take up to 90 minutes in real time) I'm sure the sharks also saw right through it. Kevin realizes he's got plenty of time to do his due diligence before actually writing a check, so he can back sure what they said was legit. IMO their valuation was unreasonable. Just cause a product starts off hot, and will inevitably see a surge in growth after the show, doesn't mean it'll be able to sustain those numbers long term.

They came in asking for $1 million for 6% and he got them to give 5% for a million but...is basically guaranteed to get his money back WAY faster, most likely within the first year or two. All that just for 1% less than what they offered. Who wouldn't take them up on that deal? It takes a big part of the risk of investing away. (That is, of course, relies upon their numbers being legit and that aren't fudging the numbers somehow. But like with every deal, it isn't completed until they do their due diligence and make sure everything is on the up-and-up. So really the risk of making such a deal is negligible for either party.)

All depends on the business. When sales are this high, this soon. The couple percent does make a difference. These guys are valuable to the sharks. But When a business needs a whole re-face or tons of work to make it profitable enough, 5% is a super small amount to negotiate and the sharks are more valuable.

@@araucariapasquale1 people buy silly things all the time. Doesn't make it a good value.
