People act like Melo ball hogs too much but those who watch the game will know who really hogs the ball. As i recall in the game against the T wolves, Melo took just 7 shots and made 4 of them, while Russ bricked all 8 three pointers and had 7 TOs...

廖俊翔 They both do. And with Melo its not so much that he hogs the ball, its more that he doesnt do the things that would help his team, like play off ball, set screens, run pick and roll (though Russ is at fault for that too). Melo should almost never have the ball in an iso on this team

People last season thought Westbrook was "carrying" the "trash" team with his selfish plays. Except he played with Oladipo, Durant, Harden, Ibaka, Jackson, etc. and nothing changed. Now he has Melo and PG. What's his excuse now? Steven Adams was always an underrated center and Roberson is playing fantastic this season. Westbrook doesn't care about winning as much a padding his stats. I've seen him give up free dunks for a behind-the-back pass for an extra assist to get to his precious triple double. He doesn't mind being inefficient because he knows people will pay attention to the big three: points, rebounds, assists. Why? Because people are dumb and look at things without context. Not to mention the numerous free rebounds he gets every single game (e.g lead the NBA in uncontested perimeter shots by a HUGE margin). Terrible offensive efficiency, no off-ball value (e.g has 1 screen assist last season), stagnates ball movement + high usage rate, NO EFFORT ON DEFENSE, pads his stats by sacrificing team efficiency.......... If you're not an OKC fan, you can't defend this guy.

Russ is not going to improve after all these years. OKC with him as PG reached its ceiling in 2016, and lost to the Warriors. Unless every elite team in the West has injuries, they won't see the finals again. KD saw that, Paul George, one of the very elite players in the league, will see it too. Can't teach decision making to some people, let alone when they've been "successful" doing things their way.

What a joke. The thunder have all kinds of talent, such an opportunity with how they match up with Golden state. I said when I knew this team would be together they'd be a silly team. Those 3 are the type of players that take silly shots. All 3 of them have about 3-5 moments a game where they walk up with a defender on them, whisper "he wont see this coming" and jack up a contested 3 the defender definitely did see coming with 20 seconds left on the clock.
@JruJewJitsu7 жыл бұрын

Nah youre right but he still feels like its okay for him to take heat check shots in that offense. In Indy, they had to have that out of him sometimes. In OKC they have pieces to create good shots that it seems like no one wants to take advantage of. Adams is a great screener, he is one of the biggest threats in the game on the PnR and it seems like they would rather iso than get some help.

We are agreed, that Russ is overrated, His points are overrated because of his eFG%, his assists are overrated because of his turnovers, and his rebounds are overrated because of his (dead last in the WHOLE NBA!) contest%. But at a certain point the constant lowlighting becomes player-hating. This year I think the problem is more Carmelo/Donovan. The Thunder need to spend a large chunk of the game playing through George, the way the Cavs need to spend a large chunk of the game playing through Kover. Lue's realization of that fact has a lot to do with the 11 game winning streak. Still waiting for the light bulb to go on, on top of Donovan's head.

I don't know if there is any player in the league who gets more biased opinions from *both* sides. Russ haters ignore his tremendous value and cite his bad defense/bad shot selection/IQ/usage rate/clear cases of stat padding. Russ lovers ignore those above factors and cite his triple doubles/steals/usage rate/point totals. Both (biased) sides are wrong, he's somewhere in the middle in terms of value. Great player, but has struggled through his whole career to share the basketball/make good shots (re: KD days) and has shown he needs to play well with other stars to be able to contend. At least Nick brings logic and video evidence for his comments.

Most superstars are treated like that. Curry is either an unanimous MVP and greatest shooter, or a choker, role player, made by the system, worse than klay, etc. I'd actually say it's much crazier with curry since he is in the warriors who have the most bandwagon haters in the world.
@falaflani48317 жыл бұрын
coz the things that prevent him from being one of the greatest PG is himself. Not that he lacks the talent or ability. that's why people don't like him
@rjt.36397 жыл бұрын
I think for the "haters" it's more of context than anything. Most haters will agree that he is a great player and easily one of the best players in the league; the problem is how much overhyped his last season was. It's talked about like it was the greatest season of all time for any player just because of his box score stats. LeBron's stats this year I'd argue are more impressive yet I don't think they are getting the hype like Russ did last season.

@myladysansa23077 жыл бұрын
Interesting breakdown and analysis. Would love if you broke down the GS/OKC game, to show the "flip side" and to focus on the things the Thunder did right when they beat the world champs. I do wonder where Donovan is in all of this unfocused defense and constant ISOball. I've read in a couple responses that if Coach Nick or another coach told Russ something he didn't like, he'd "have them fired". Russ has truly only had two head coaches in his NBA career (PJ coached him for 13 games during his rookie season when he was still coming off the bench) - where is the evidence that "Russ gets coaches fired"? That kind of sentiment should probably be geared more toward Melo than Russ. Or Marc Gasol, who's issues with Fizdale certainly contributed to his termination. That said, you've covered Westbrook's flaws ad nauseum, in video after video. We all kind of get it, I think. I'm now curious as to where the coach fits in all of this, because it barely seems as if they're being coached a lot of the time, particularly on offense. If Donovan IS trying to implement an offensive system and the team is ignoring him, that's a problem because that means he's lost/never had their respect. All I know is if Pop saw Russ ball watching and losing his man, he'd get in his face. If he did it again, he'd be benched. And he'd continue being benched til he got his act together. If Donovan is "afraid" to do that, that's a problem. I get that it's a player's league, but a coach HAS to have the respect of their players, especially their superstar. The players have to buy in. If not, that coach may not be the right one for those players.

Damn these ads! I can't skip past them. Well done, Coach Nick. I might as well skip past them since they're so distracting. I can't remember the content during those sections anyway. Haha.

Anirudh Kamath you’re such a dumbass. Triple doubles are the most overrated stat ever

it seems overrated because he puts them up easily. But that comment im replying to is absurd.

Anirudh Kamath lol that is one way to look at it. coach nick was kind to break it down

Haha truth, stats are overrated, its about win or lose no mather what player makes a triple double or dibble trouble, they make stats for everything. Jimmy Butler thats a good player.

Coach, if Roberson is so limited why does he still get 25.2 minutes per game this season and 22.2 mpg in his NBA career so far?
@jordylont18797 жыл бұрын
Christopher Benavides but why not trade for him then or do anything to get him away and/or improve the position?

BBALLBREAKDOWN fair enough, but is that really enough to have only 4 and a half (he does some good things ofcourse) players on offense? Thank you for the reply!

if they got rid of russ who would the best replacement be to compliment pg, melo and an actual system with ball movement?
@IanLEAU7 жыл бұрын
They really do need to find Adams more, he's producing great results down low and like you said, has great hands. The Thunder spend too much time on their pick and roll action it's like Adams never really gets a chance to do anything else - Other than getting offensive rebounds off shitty pick and roll actions lol. They need to invest in a low post game with him, let him use his size and strength to bang down low and free up their perimeter play.

fire billy donovan...just as simple as that. he is unable to run plays that actually benefit the system..instead letting russ run the show and letting them resort to either pick and roll or iso ball.

SouISlayer9000 even Coach pop can't handle russ. I think it's mentality. Players like LBJ, MJ, KOBE, RUSS don't care to much about advices, systems, teamates. Every coach knew this kind of player always toxic for the team. Their status makes a coach always on dead end. Really i feel sorry for DONOVAN. Because: 1. If you play RUSS and you lose, they will say you can't coach. 2. If you bench RUSS and you lose, RUSS fans gonna call you idiot, OKC fans will angry cause think RUSS was OKC ICON. I really sorry for DONOVAN, TY LUE, especially PHILL JACKSON. PHILL been treat badly by KNICKS fans, tough he trying everything for KNICKS. It realy damaging his legendary status.
@sohaminyoh7 жыл бұрын
Hario Ramadhan LBJ has the basketball IQ to disregard coaches but obviously that has made him lose some important games. MJ definitely trusted coaches and systems. He definitely trusted the triangle and played within the team's offense in the 90s (much like Curry).

bout time u brought your theme music back coach. ! ! Gets me hype in the morning ! lol.. good vid. Thunder lack major chemistry. Im thinking they would have been better this year without George and Melo at this point !!! Russ is better with all the heat on his back it seems, maybe hell figure it out.

Hey coach, I can't blame Russ for every defensive lapse but he is responsible for ball watching. Whats more disconcerting is the rotations Donovan is putting out there. What are your thoughts on: 1) Using Roberson as a match-up problem guy i.e. against GS, HOU, MIN etc. because his defense is that good. 2) Inserting Patterson into the 4 spot, push Melo to the 3, PG to the 2, WB and Adams for stretches? (Patterson was a top 10 PF in Box Plus Minus statistically the last 2-3 seasons). 3) Do you think they should use Alex Abrines similar to how the Cavs use Kyle Korver? 4) When Russ plays more than 32-34 minutes, he looses his marbles. Perhaps sit him longer? Just some food for thought

Most of this wont work because okc dont set offensive plays. It seems that all these 3 stars(mainly mello em russ) do not follow coaches instructions. The easiest solution for me, is to move westbrook from 1 to 2. He cant definetely play as a point guard... but i doubt this will happen.
@mrsteeze31167 жыл бұрын
im not sure if moving Russ actually helps. This Felton/Westbrook combination is an eye sore on the defensive end. Moving him to the 2 actually makes the problem worse in my mind. The team already can't rebound
