The spy’s goodbye is one of my favorite scenes in the whole show. It is heartbreaking that they can’t properly say goodbye. It’s already extremely emotional but then they decide to punch you in the gut when they show you Mack.

Yes, as you probably already know, this was supposed to lead to a Bobbi and Hunter spin off called Most wanted. They are so great characters, that they almost got their own spin off, imagine that. So then they had to be written of the show. And they shot the pilot, but then ABC decided not to pick it up. So because of Marvel/ABC being goofs, we not only didn't get the spin off, we lost Bobbi and Hunter on this show as well, permanently, never to be seen again. It still hurts man. Two incredible characters, lost too executives being executives.

Not because its fun to see someone sad, but to see that the show affected you that much and the incredible spys goodbye scene hit you, is great as a fan of the show. Trust me, we all cry at that scene. I tear up too, even though i habe seen it many times. The music, the acting, its just an incredible scene from top to bottom.

Bear McCreary did not have to go that hard with the score for a spy’s goodbye 😢 😢
@sophiedozeman116211 ай бұрын
The acting in the spy’s goodbye is so phenomenal because it’s only partial acting. They have to say goodbye to their friends who they won’t be acting with anymore. Also, rewatching this episode after knowing where it ends is interesting because it really does feel like the scenes with Bobbi and Hunter were closing off their loose ends and storylines with them. Seeing Hunter tell May he was truly sorry for everything, it really feels different to watch when you know they’re leaving.

The ending scene, the spy’s goodbye, is so impressive. Not only is it saying goodbye to lovable characters that we bonded to in only a season and a half, but everyone’s acting and the score are SUPERB. Half of the acting wasn’t faked because the actors were truly sad, and I don’t know what psychology Bear McCreary read about to make that score but it gets me teary EVERY TIME. It’s just such a phenomenal scene, to make people so emotional when no one even dies. So impressive.

*_As sad as Bobbi and Hunter leaving the show was, the creation of the “Spy’s Goodbye” was absolutely EPIC! Many fans of the show did their own Spy’s Goodbye to the cast when the show officially went off the air at the end of season 7._* *_The episode is a great one, even i, as you mentioned, there are some few plot holes which inevitably came up because the decision to pluck Bobbi and Hunter for a spin-off series came late and the writers had to pivot quickly. It is also very sad that it was mostly for naught as the powers that were at Marvel Entertainment at the time just as quickly cancelled the show just as fast; I hope the actors had good clauses in their contract in case of that happening; and I really would love for the pilot of the cancelled show, which apparently WAS shot, to be released so that we can have an idea of what the show might have looked like._*

Coulson offered for them to work within SHIELD but not in any way public facing. They didn't want that so the only option was to walk as though they were never part of shield in the first place
@David-bf2cg11 ай бұрын
Yes the whole reasoning behind this whole thing isnt watertight, and many people find the episode a bit confusing, not just you, for many reasons. But it was just something to write them off for the spinoff, and for that purpose I think they went pretty hard with it. And as you saw, Bobbi and hunter had people watching them, probably all the time now, and Russia has spies in the US. So the moment, they suddenly dissepeared or where seen doing any sort of agent work, the gig would be up. And even if Shield is technically "gone", its not really, the Russian priminister didnt even believe so. So all of this was not just about Bobbi and Hunter, but keeping Shield still a secret, and keep the prime minister and others believing that its gone. And this whole thing could lead to WW3 as Coulson said, so its not really something you wanna risk, even if you wanna be with your friends, or still wanna be an agent.

It breaks me every time they cut to Mack holding the glass. I unapologetically bawl my eyes out. They left the show because they were supposed to have their own spinoff, Marvel's Most Wanted. Unfortunately, the person in charge of Marvel TV at the time was terrible at making shows that people wanted and cancelled it, with only a pilot being filmed.
@jesusramirezromo203710 ай бұрын
The reason they where written off was because they where making a Bobby and Hunter spin-off, they even filmed a pilot, It was named Most Wanted But soon after, ABC changed their mind on the amount of Marvel content they wanted, so it and other Marvel shows where cancelled in preproduction
@Swenglish10 ай бұрын
They were supposed to get a spinoff. Shot a pilot and everything. Most Wanted. It supposedly tested well and things were looking optimistic, but between that, Agent Carter, Inhumans and this, the ABC head of programming at the time apparently just didn't want ABC to become the Marvel Channel, so it got killed. I believe the same head of programming shortly thereafter went over to Netflix and canceled all the Marvel shows there. Probably because the writing was on the wall for Marvel Television, although it's been speculated that the person in question just had a personal dislike for comic book stuff.

If anything, the shadow reminds me of Charmed (if any of y'alls have watched that). Bobbi and Hunter leaving was such a blow. I loved Hunter, Coulson and Fitz when they were on the run in s2. His disguises were hilarious - the cowboy trailing Ward, the "douche-bag" handling Bakshi, Damn the Yanks - he did some of the heaviest spy work the past two seasons. As others have already mentioned here, the whole Bobbi and Hunter going to over Marvel's Most Wanted thing was a fiasco from start to finish. First they (Adrianne and Nick) were supposed to shoot a pilot for the new show between seasons two and three, then ABC lost its nerve and postponed it until mid-season. At which point the head of the ABC network, Paul Lee, was removed from the role and replaced with Channing Dungey. Lee was a big proponent of comicbook TV shows, Dungey was not. So, within a few months of taking over as president of the network, she canned Marvel's Most Wanted before it went to series, cancelled Agent Carter; and while she did renew Agents of SHIELD for a fourth season she moved it to a 10pm death slot, probably with the intention of killing the show by letting the viewership drain away. Or maybe Dungey was a secret genius, because that move allowed AoS to finally break free... But more about that when you get to season four.

"Most Wanted" is one of at least 3 MCU series pilots that were filmed, but never picked up, and never released at all. We also know "New Warriors" was cast and filmed a pilot, and supposedly "Damage Control" filmed one as well. There may have been others. But for some reason, ABC just kept refusing to pick up these shows. The upside is, it left Adrianne Palicki free to star in "The Orville". That's worth reacting to when you have time.

Certain by now you know the reason. The spinoff that never happened. But consider this, they couldn't kill them off, so they had to invent a way to remove them from Phil's team. IMO they did such a good job that it was more emotional than having them killed in the plot. Sometimes necessity can bring out the best writing.
@jackdubz424710 ай бұрын
I will never understand that reasoning though - wanting to spin off two characters from a show but then make it in such a way that the chances of crossovers and special appearances were nigh on impossible. That isn't how TV works. Networks tend to love the publicity and promo boost that usually comes with in-house character and story cross-pollination.

This episode is never not emotional 😭😭😭 There was also very little acting in that last scene, they were just that sad about not getting to work together anymore, especially Henry Simmons who plays Mack because, as you pointed out, they started on the show at the same time. While I don't think the actors who played Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) and Hunter (Nick Blood) ever dated irl, a lot of the actors actually did become good friends offscreen. Nick Blood got married not that long ago, and all the top comments on his Instagram post about it are from fellow SHIELD alums, and he and Iain de Caestecker (Fitz) still frequently hang out.

Just as characters, I like Hunter more than I like Mack. However, I do think Mack ends up fulfilling important roles on the team that it would be hard for Hunter to fulfill (even if when fulfilling those roles, the acting for Mack is rather flat).

I'm the opposite: I found Adrienne Palicki's acting in the role of Bobbi to be flat and unengaging. "terrible spin-off pilot" How do you know that it is terrible? No one outside of ABC has seen more than a scant few seconds of BTS footage of some stunt work.
