Great vid... I am def the guy who enjoys watching the entire process. It's always nice to see all the successes and what was done to have them and/or the mishaps and how you went about solving the challenge. Anyway this was a great video and I'm pumped to do exactly this! Thanks mate and good on ya!

Thank you for this video. It really helped out when I put my copper scales on my manix. It still was an absolute pain but I at least knew how to make it a little easier.

Wow five minutes? I went today to check them out and perhaps buy one, but they were all gone. Not too upset because I just bought a Manix 2 with M4, with Jade scales. So, I’m happy.....My Shaman in S30V will be just fine. 👍🏻

Just bought a used manix 2 with copper scales, titanium lock, etc. Really nice except it just about wouldn't close if I flipped it open. Took screws out on 1 side and peered into the screw holes. The copper was way off. Tried the other side and same thing. Massaged the holes with needle file and larger drill bit for countersink. Works fine now. I don't have a clue as to the brand of scales, no names anywhere. What I think is, the hole for the lanyard thingie was drilled off by quite a bit. Not the screw holes. That threw everything else off. But, if I moved that hole it would have been noticeable. So, that's my manix story.

Good stuff. One bit of advice. Always tape your edge when working on a knife like this. All it takes is one slip...

A lot of companies I’ve noticed Microtech in particular only uses copper on the show side when they do a special with different scales as well as in the police and firefighter editions they use blue or red front and black back scales.

Looks awesome. Damn lanyard hole. I did copper scales on my pm2 it was a pain.

Nice job on this one! That spring and ball bearing are the devil. Take one side off at a time. The Manix 2 was one of the first knives I took apart and I took it all the way down. My mistake. Thanks for sharing

I'm curious if pouring hot water around the G10 would be enough to remove it easier? I may try that once i get my new AWT scales.
@jamesfair97512 жыл бұрын
So I really wanted to get one of these and do this exact mod with the scales but I also want to get the copper barrel lock and lanyard hole. Hearing what you are saying I assume it would be a much greater pain to change those other parts.
@petergalione97045 жыл бұрын
I may do titanium. Copper is pretty heavy.

I found a good trick for lanyard tube i put a lil bit of lube on barrel and around then work the scale and liner off slowly then lube tube to easily reassemble always do one scale swap at a time. I bought lanyard plugs a couple, solid, spiral, and cross hair in tube hole like a gun scope. im not a lanyard fan nothimg wrong with lanyards I just prefere with out a lanyard hole. I'm loving the lanyard plugs it looks custom and a nice looking touch to a simple mod of hardware color change a great look to match my color scheme. I bought 10 plugs Para3, paramilitary 2, manix2 short.and got the TI bugout scale without lanyard hole.
@geraldkoth654 Жыл бұрын
It is much easier to remove the scale the first time if you take off the liner as well. The liner backs up the G10 so it does not fray as you remove it. Subsequent removals are much easier.

There’s actually a tool for taking the lanyard tube off… that’s the biggest pain, danger in doing something to the Manix. I don’t know how much they cost, but I am considering buying one. I’ve got a Saint Nick’s exclusive Red & Black Manix 2 XL and I shouldn’t be using but that’s what I buy knives for, so I’m considering adding a reduced strength spring in the lock and a ceramic ball and metal cage. I thought of changing and protecting it’s Red scales but that’s part of the reason I bought it. I thought the Red would help me locate it in the yard if I ever lost it like the Smock I lost that this knife replaced. Yeah, no sign of the Smock, and believe me, I looked!!! But, I digress… hardest, most dangerous part for me would be the lanyard tube ruining my scales!!! Info on the tool would be helpful!!!

My first manix 2 doesn’t have skeletonized liners and it’s amazing how much heavier it is. It clunks open like a bank vault! It would weigh a ton with some copper scales…;)

I love those scales I searched for them for some of my knives but they are limited to only a few models :( might upgrade my pm2 S110V really wish they had them for the zt models. only seen it for a zt 0300 model. awesome video as always thanks Have A Great Day Oh I’m also thinking of making my own scales as an art project, I bought artist resin awhile back and was supposed to have my daughter visit one day and make stuff but it never happened so I have $300 dollars of clear resin sitting unopened. just need to make some molds and try and utilize the resin as it costs a fair penny lol I also have glow in the dark pigments to add and glow sands various colours. watching your videos and others gives me all the ideas and ups my spending :D oh yeah keep meaning to ask why doesn’t anyone make a metal thumb guide instead of the plastic one spyderco uses especially since your changing the scales. If I grab a model with the ball lock I will figure something out. hmmm just bugs me that plastic on there

Looks great! Unfortunately you've got the trade off with the weight. One suggestion: I would have used blue loctite on the pivot. Once you have the tension dialed in, you want it to stay that way.
@metal_complex5 жыл бұрын
The pivot screws on this one have stayed firmly in place even after a few adjustments. Normally, I would have added some.

Will these manix 2 titanium scales work to replace the FRN scales I hate the feel of? I want a manix 2 with maxamet blade steel and titanium scales if that is possible.
@jacobgroome57384 жыл бұрын
I noticed on yours the liners don't seem to be skeletonized? However on my DLT trading Manix 2, the liners are skeletonized. Will this work the same way? That is when I remove the g10 will the ball cage remain intact the way yours does? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I just want to be sure before I start on the task, I just ordered some brass scales from flytanium and I'm looking forward to trying it out!

Switching scales is easy on the manix (relatively speaking). Its when you start taking apart the spring assembly ("spring cage" or whatever you wanna call it)... That is when this knife CAN become a real nightmare.

Man I’m fighting to get the copper scale to go over the lanyard tube. I can’t get it to go!!! Geez!! Update!! Got it! Had to beat it into submission! Both sides I had to take a rubber mallet and a shirt and beat it. So now I’ve got the copper ball cage and scales. Just got the knife and copper everything yesterday. The spring is so tight I hope it breaks in well. This is my first spyderco besides a tenacious. Edit 3! Now I don’t know which knife to carry as my main knife! This the manix 2 or my microtech stitch. This manix is the bee’s knee’s, the cats meow, the well you get it. I should’ve got one of these years ago. The hype is real or was real or whatever.

Titanium is very much the "thing" for now, until the next thing. I like the original scales much more. Not even thinking of the loss of grip and the $$ of titanium.
@7784000Ай бұрын
I think titanium is not just the thing now. It has been around for a while. May we can all agree on piss yellow ultem to be a thing which hopefully disappears quite soon. Titanium has definetly some advantages. Grippyness however isn't one of them :)
