The ball bearing isn't just to help if function smoother, it is the actual detent for the lock. There is no bar locking the blade on this design.

GP Knives have them with CPM REX 45 for $129! Just got one through them, it’s great.

I have both: Manix 2 with Flytanium Carbon Fiber scales and Manix 2 LW S110V; 940, 940-1 and 940-2. Love both but the edge goes to the Manix 2. I do love the feel of my 940s too, especially the 940’s aluminum sound when flicking.

Osborne has the best action of any benchmade. Long, narrow blade almost throws itself.

I’ve never had any Benchmade thumb stud interference with any sort of slicing. I will never understand that argument. Ive always never broke any omega springs in any model, i call bs on most claims

I can’t get enough of the Manix 2. I just picked up the exclusive Mint green and did a review on my channel. Nice viddy!

It's a way better knife than most benchmades. The 940 is a nice, classy knife but it's really poor at doing what it was made to do, actual cutting. Spydercos FFG blades are super slicey and designed to be useful.

I agree with nearly everything you've said. The new Manix 2 LW with screwed-together construction will help to cure a couple of gripes with the ball cage and spring. Not to mention, cleaning and maintenance will finally be possible.

Screw mod is easy to do, takes 15 mins but yes spyderco should have never riveted them together in the first place.
@LonestarTaoboy

I disagree with a 15 minute screw mod conversion, more like an hour and a half. It can be done, best with a drill press. It must be done carefully, and precise. Also you need the replacement screws and barrels on hand before the conversion. For the folks with the riveted construction I do not know if it would be worth it to convert, or go for a new model, perhaps even a G10 version.

Nice review! Amazon rounds the weight up, it's actually stated to be 2.85 ounces on the manufacturer's page I believe. Your scale shows a touch more...perhaps the steel matters? Mine is SPY27 and after a year I'm about to take it to my sharpener, have only been stopping till now.

Although I agree about the scales. The price is pretty high for basically plastic, the steel is good. One could argue better than s-35vn. Unfortunately if we are only going to talk about is price there are many different knives that can be bought for less which are as good if not better for the same price as spyderco and especially benchmade. But if its between the bugout or gryptilian and manix im licking the manix any day. As a matter of fact i plan on getting one in s110v pretty soon here.

Nope… a literal ceramic BALL bearing, pressed in the tang, which is the detent. Kept in place by a strong spiral spring. Axis lock: a bar kept in place by a flimsy omega spring.

I paid $95 for mine, and I think it was a good value. Also, bang-for-your-buck doesn't matter if the the knife doesn't fit your needs. Is the Manix 2 LW perfect? Of course not. My biggest objection is the shape of the handle--I'd like it to have fewer sharp edges and a bit more contour. But no single knife has it all. This one works.

More icing on the cake now, as Spyderco now makes these with all screw construction.

Why is spyderco still using BD1N for their budget steel? Literal 440C would be a slight upgrade. Manix and native 5 are the best though.

GP Knives have them in CPM REX 45 for $129. It’s a fantastic steel if you don’t mind wiping it with oil or a silicone cloth once in a while because it’s not completely corrosion proof.

I 100% guarantee you spyderco bd1n will out cut that s35vn in edge retention. That's just saying it's not particle metallurgy and this is so it's better.... the difference is that bd1n is going to have a optimal HT and at its designed hardness. That case S35vn is at best done decently. If it was LC200N would it be a good deal to you?
@LonestarTaoboy
@LonestarTaoboy Жыл бұрын
The Spyderco will out cut the Case because of edge geometry and thickness behind the edge. With all variables the same: blade length, thickness, grit finish, dps sharpening, CPM S35VN will out perform CTS BD1N by at least 30%. The discussion regarding heat treatment is anecdotal at best, and no definite, factual results have been offered from you. I would like to see the results of the Case knives heat treatment.

If you’re gonna do a review, please know what you’re talking about, especially near the beginning when you’re trying to establish trust and rapport. The handle material on the Manix LW is FRCP. Not FRN. It’s fiberglass reinforced co-polymer. You lost me right there….within one minute.

long story short, the ball cage is way to stiff across all of the Manix 2 line. The Manix line is twice and many times 3 times harder to use compared to the axis lock.. My love of Spyderco is rapidly declining as there are so many other lines that cost less and are better made. Lastly, The ball cage should be metal, not a cheap plastic..!!!
