...And the stick out part kind of matches (and blends in a bit) with a pair of jeans. I'm still a bit sad I missed out on the earlier, cheerier version with the translucent perspex blade release nubs. 'More different'. I'm also loving my new V-Toku2 Endura 4, though -- my first Endura. Still super lightweight at 3.27 ounces carry weight (vs. the 2.89 ounces of my Manix 2 for its +0.44 inches extra blade length and even longer relative cutting edge). Both, nice stuff, though the blade finish is far superior on my BD1 Manix 2, irrespective of cladding aesthetics issues on the sprint run Endura.

I have that same model Sebenza =) The scary part is, I just recently starting USING it. It was made in 2008--I bought it used in 2011-2012 or so. And man, what an AWESOME knife. I always saw it as a piece of art--now, I'm addicted. It's my new home beater and it can freaking take it.

@Federalwaywebbs 5 жыл бұрын
Richard Jones I have several knives that I can easily use with gloves. I know they has nothing to do with arthritis, but I'm saying these are ALL VERY easy to open and close with very little effort because the lock requires simple push or push/pull motions. Try them out: Spyderco Smock (button lock) Hogue knives have bar locks or button locks CRKT Tighe Tac Two (button lock) Benchmade 940 (bar lock) The CRKT and Smock run on ball bearings, so they drop open and closed without any fine motor requirements. You could easily open/close them with mittins on (pain free I think for you). I can't think of the name, but Kizer makes a button lock on bearings knife and CRKT has a very large hard duty knife called the Siesmic and a slightly higher quality version on the Tac Two called the Rade.

I just purchased my first manix on the secondary market. I got the lightweight s110v for a steel....(haha) Tracking says it's supposed to be here tomorrow! Let's see if it sends me down the manix wormhole like I think it will. And to be honest, the thing that's kept me from buying the manix was your recommendation on the civivi praxis about 6 months ago. Love that thing. Another reason for the s110v (besides the price I got it for) is that it's time to see if my sharpening "chops" are up to snuff. Thanks again!

Thanks Slicey for the "get the blue" message. I did, and love it. A couple things: 1. My blade is not centered, and nothing that I've tried can correct that. It's not far off, so I'll just be okay with it. 2. For actuating the bearing lock, there's a fair amount of force required to move the caged ball. I am GLAD to have the pocket clip to increase grip/leverage. Have you, or anyone else, tried actuating the lock with the clip off? Just curious. It almost seems essential to have the clip there. Overall though, I am also happy with my purchase. For reference, I also have the Manix 2 G-10 S30V, which is great but a bit heavy for me, and the back-lock version which is just a lovely chunk of a knife. Please keep the great videos coming!

Now that the new 'n' improved, nitrogen bearing BD1N blade steel is starting to work it's way into Spyderco's production chain, man, do I want to see an updated Manix 2 LW with that (pending?) upgrade! For my at least nominally "harder working" Manix 2 among my Spyderco LW collection, I really did not want any of the harder to repair 'premium' blade steels out there for the LW. No Cruware for a Manix 2, right? So, like yours here, my translucent blue LW is in BD1. But I would hop on an LC200N 'Salt' version Manix 2 LW like poor blood starved Renfield did on that juicey bug in 'Dracula'!

The Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight was the first higher quality/pricier knife I ever bought too. I got the translucent blue one though. Sadly I lost mine, but I have another one in S110V and a Knife Center exclusive in CTS XHP with brown FRN handles. Probably the best EDC knife ever. Perfect ergonomics, size and weight. Not the prettiest knife in the world, but it would be my pick if I could only have one folder.

If Spyderco changes out the standard blade steel to the new BD1N, I'd tentatively advise jumping on that. It could happen relatively quietly (BD1N is already appearing -- quietly, it seems -- on the Golden, CO built UKPK folder). This is a quite different steel, despite the similarity in name. Look it up (Google, etc.). FYI.

So I see people have had that plastic ball bearing cage break in half on these knifes. Wonder what happens then since one cant just open it up to replace any parts due to the use of pins instead of screws.

I own 4 Manixes, only one is a lightweight. I don't like the pinned construction, but it was my first and had sentimental value. My favorite ones have the skeletonized liners, and I prefer the peel-ply CF over the smooth. Would it be blasphemous to switch out the scales of a DLC M4? I don't like the way the liners show thought the translucent when oil wicked between the scale and the liner. I've taken it apart to clean and tune, because the action wasn't so good out of box, so I assume it no longer has the NIB status and the big money secondary market price tag. I bought it mostly for the black blade and skele. liners. I haven't carried it yet. I just take it out of the box, open and close it a few times and put it away. I think if I got some after market scales it would go in my pocket.

I live in upstate NY and assisted opening knifes are illegal, at least having one shipped (Amazon) to my location on line, however you can buy as many as you want in any store that sells assisted knifes, I have several knifes that I bought in stores that wont ship to my location?....dont ask I have no idea? But all Spyderco knifes will ship, but not a single local store sells Spyderco knifes???? I have the Byrd Cara Cara 2 , Byrd Meadowlark 2, Astute, Delica 4 and just ordered the Manix 2 lightweight. I have yet to review a knife where every person that says anything bad about this knife is jumped by many other reviewers or are just stating that it is the best knife they have ever owned? at $113 for the newer CTS BD1N, I was hesitant but just had to pull the trigger on this gem...cant Wait for it to arrive. and if the Ball Bearing Lock is anything like the axis lock on my Benchmade mini Barrage it will be so fidget friendly!

@@SliceyDicey I beg the differ, they wont ship because they can read the laws and they are all over the internet, I do however understand why you think that because you can buy them anywhere in stores (as I have and carry daily at my own risk) but if you catch the wrong cop on the wrong day looking for a loophole to mess up your day....Knives are like guns in NY even if you have a legal AR platform odds are if a cop sees it it will get taken from you because they are just not informed enough and will end up having to get it back latter, I have read several articles about it happening.

@Federalwaywebbs
@Federalwaywebbs 5 жыл бұрын
In my most kidding voice- you seriously don't see why people compare the BBL to an Axis Lock? I just received my Manix and it's taken hundreds of opens/closes to coming close to being able to unlock without two fingers and concerted attention and effort. Also, one of the benefits to this and the Axis lock is so that your fingers aren't under the blade when unlocking. Even now that it is breaking in a bit, I can't hold the knife and unlock it without funding my fingers under the edge. I guess I'm glad it's not running on ball bearings or my fingers would be sliced to a mess. I love the knife, but I open and close it WAY More often then I will ever rely on our push the lock to it's limits. I guess I'm saying is prefer it to be 20% easier to open than 20% stronger than my 940. Even as a heavy duty knive. Hopefully the lock will loosen a lot more and the action a little more.
