Most people actually want the micarta, and that's what some people put on their Spydercos. This one is so great. Micarta is like a resin-infused fiber made up of lots of different fibers. I love the way it feels especially roughed up a bit with fine grit sandpaper.

Do you still carry this? It’d be cool to see how the scales have aged. Spyderco Micarta takes on a whole new look after it ages.

It's pretty simple to center the blades usually. I've done it in a few of my benchmades. There are some instructions on the interwebs. I'm not sure I've had to do it in one of my Spydies but it should work I think. My biggest issue with Spyderco and the compression lock is sometimes they get nasty lock stick. Plus, if you are doing hard cutting with a hammer grip, it gives me a bad hot spot in the palm. I tend to buy Benchmade more because they have better warranty support.
@saigudbai Жыл бұрын
*with warranty support, I mean that I stripped the heads on the screws on my mini Adamas while doing the centering thing. Benchmade sent me all new screws, no fuss no charge. Spyderco wouldn't do that.

I can't buy most expensive knives because I can't justify spending 200+ and not getting some kind of gun out of it, but this is one I REALLY want. It'll be one of a couple more expensive knives I'm going to get.

It's interesting how the micarta varies. This one has more of a redish/red dirt look while mine is tan. They also wear and look interesting. At first I didn't like the way it can darken or get "dirty" looking but it's neat after a bit. The micarta feels good and grips nicely even with sweaty hands. It's insanely sharp too. Whenever a friend asks to use a knife they end up playing with it a bit and looking them up online only to say "WHAT? How is this $175!" Then I say "Well ya know how you really liked it and it's like neat and such? That's why."

I'd like to say that whoever had this knife before you used it alot or put oil on the micarta. Because I have two of this model and they come tan micarta looking. They will turn a red light color if used or oiled just saying. And the micarta version is hard to get scales for it because of the way the micarta is compared to a g10 version.
@andrewbertubin76344 ай бұрын
You mean you can’t replace the scales on this version because the way the micarta is set up with the liners ?
@flyguy78364 ай бұрын
@@andrewbertubin7634 you can replace the scales you just have to make sure it's for the micarta version. The g10 version is set up differently especially where the compression lock is but yes you can find them for the micarta it's just harder to find.
@erictalkington56745 ай бұрын
Try tightening the pivot screw a little bit. Not too much, just a little bit and that should help center it better. It's probably been opened a bunch and it starts coming loose.
@wizardofahhhs7597 ай бұрын
Micarta is burlap or some other cloth material that's been pressure treated with epoxy resin.

I think it's canvas micarta.

I think you should send it back for a replacement, I got one myself and it is perfect. It's perfectly centered, my clip don't move at all, and don't on the many Spyderco knives I have. All of my Spyderco knives have been great, centered, and well built, but I think you may have gotten a defective one. I own 5 Spyderco knives and the only one that wasn't centered out of the box was the Tenacious from their China factory, but I expected that. But I do believe you should send it back to Spyderco for a replacement. You should also try out some Cold Steel knives for hard use, such as the American Lawman, Recon 1, Code 4, AD10, etc. you can even go with a higher class Cold Steel Demko with the Scorpion lock to fill the hard use and pocket jewelry boxes.

I know people use their knives for different things and im nobody to say "only use for these circumstances " no. When people cry about a knive not being strong for prying or spine wacks, i just dont take them serious. Different tools for different tasks for me. I dont use knife for those heavy-duty tasks. They make axes, hatchet, hammer, ice picks ect, ect. Knives can be used in emergencies or cutting a package open or opening envelopes. Because that's why they have box cutters too right? To slash boxes to small pieces.
@ShoahBiz11 ай бұрын
Don’t forget cutting cordage, food prep, animal processing and feather sticking for us outdoorsy folk. Maybe even some wood carving or cutting some leather / other material. Just like you, I like my knives to do knife tasks well and leave other tasks for the appropriate tool. I do own a knife I can force into all roles tho but it doesn’t get carried often because everything is a compromise and it’s not as comfortable to use a large blade on more typical everyday tasks
