Manix2 was my first. Just got para2 yesterday. Surprised how much lighter it is. If you play with the para for a while. Then pick up the manix, it feels ‘more premium’, heavy and solid. It was once said. The manix is Rambo. And the para is James Bond. Best description in my opinion. Love you guys

The ball bearing lock on the manix2 is equivalent to or better than the axis lock on Benchmade. I’ve seen the test. They blow compression and liner locks away.
@evictioncarpentry26285 жыл бұрын
Doubt it. The ball bearing is housed In a plastic cage. The axis bar is made from hardened steel or Titanium depending on model. You would need to completely bend the bar plus the steel liners on a Benchmade to break it. Secondly, having just purchased a manix 2, it's nowhere near as smooth or awesome as an axis lock.

The para 2 is a great knife, no doubt. But in my opinion, the manix 2 is better. Fits my hand like a glove. Para 2 blade to handle ratio = too much handle. The manix 2 is just perfect. I first bought the version you show here, all black, g10, s30v. I liked it so much I ended up buying two more versions. The burl g10 with s90v, and the carbon fiber, cruwear. Those two are my safe queens and I use the regular one with a casey lynch deep pocket clip. This is the only knife out of about 90 that I own that I have more than one version of, that's how impressed I am with it. Also have a manix 2xl which is beastly. Have you done a review of the Shaman? It's another great spyderco, more heavy duty with a super comfortable grip.
@Jsmith90553 жыл бұрын
I prefer the Manix 2 personally. I like the leaf shape blade, rather than the bird beak. I also got the Sage 5 LW, over the Para 3, for the same reason. Either way, you cant go wrong with a Spyderco
@Dmhlcmb3 жыл бұрын
I love them both, I have the both, but I like a compression lock on my Spyderco knives. The Manix 2 is an amazing edc knife but the para 2 is everything Spyderco does better than anyone else, all in one package.

Which one is better for skinning an elk? Which one is easier to clean blood out of? Which one has the strongest tip? Which one is better for breaking down wood? Which handle has the least hot spots after carving a spoon? Do you guys do anything except review how good they flip open and close? That means pretty much zero when it comes to cutting things, make one of those fidget spinner things out of S30V, it will be more fun for what you guys use knives for.

Though I am right handed, I also use things in my left hand, such as handguns and knives. The ball lock is easy to work with either hand, but the compression lock is not. All my compression locks are for right handed use. I have seen the compression lock made for left handed users, though I do not know if that is a regular catalog item. Still, the compression lock is not as flexible in usage as the ball lock.

How they feel in one's hand matters as does the lock mechanism. I don't 'prefer" the Axis-Lock type mechanism because it's "recommened" we pull down BOTH nubs simultaneously to release the blade....rather a "one finger motion"....liner locks and the compression (haven't owned a compresion lock knife)....plus, if you've never owned or handled a Spyderco I think the PM2 would be THE best choice...does more things right according to Syderco desgin ideas... Manx 2...$40 cheaper....Axis style lock...might fit your hand better....maybe as a 2nd Spyderco knife?? Don't know if pocket knives ever go on sale....i haven't ever noticed if they do...

The Manix 2XL all day ! I'm in love with this knife ! As a lefty the Manix 2XL perfect. It's been my EDC for 5yrs now. I went with the para3 in s45vn with the black on black. Had the pm2 but feel the 3 is the ideal size. Like it way more than my bench grip in 154cm. My preference is the Para 2 for the easier to manipulate lock and the slimmer profile in the pocket. Gave my Manix to a friend. I would love a nice Manix 2 Sprint in XHP, M390, or something else that’s Stainless with good edge retention. I also wasn’t a fan of the protrusions of the Manix because they dug a little too harshly into my fingers. All just preferences of course. The nice thing about the Manix handle is it’s basically identical to the Hinderer ergos which are great. If it just didn’t have such sharp jumping in the liners where the fingers go I would be a lot happier.

@ IMightBeWrong... You can file or grind back that metal jimping to *excellent* aesthetic effect, if you procede cautiously and have the proper tools and "good hands"... probably without the headaches of dissassembly, by the looks of it. See 'Google Images' for the finished example. I myself have zero issues with the jimping on either my CPM Cru-Ware Manix or my BD1 Lightweight. I like it, especially as a tactile reference point for my fingers.

Hi I have recently bought Spyderco Manix s110v and have no idea how to sharpen it what grit , weather to microbevel and if to strop and how to maintain the edge on this steel etc ...and also have no sharpening equipment I was thinking about purchasing Lansky sharpening system for this knife and all my others. cheers ,Zac.
@metal_complex6 жыл бұрын
S110V is one of those steels that can be really, really tough/time consuming to sharpen even with good sharpening equipment. I'm not a pro when it comes to sharpening, but if you're going take on s110v, I would practice on some softer steels first. I hear 110 tends to be slightly chippy, so keep that in mind. Wish I could offer more advice! Bladeforums is a great place to find that kind of info. I would check there. Good luck!
@seanb69866 жыл бұрын
Use a diamond stone, preferably coarse, up to around 600 grit, then remove the burr with a ceramic rod and strop with leather. s110v works better with a toothy edge, it’s less prone to chipping, and a deep scratch pattern is useful too.

I currently own a manix 2 lightweight translucent blue, and a blacked out manix 2 xl. Both of them are my babies, and probably my two favorite knives ever, (and I've owned a lot). EVERYTHING about them is perfect in my opinion. The ergonomics are the best i have ever felt. I don't currently own a paramilitary 2, but i did back in... 2015 i believe. In fact it was the black blade and digi camo scales. And that thing was a total beast! I used to baton logs with that thing. I mean i was hard on it, for years. And all that happened to it was developing a little bit of blade play. So from experience, both are fantastic. But i looooooooove my manix 2's. The Manix 2 seems like a great knife, but the locking action seems similar to Benchmade’s Axis lock. I wanted something that was totally different and unique to the Spyderco brand in every way, and the Para 2 was the obvious choice for me. @@mackhomie6 yeah but the shaman looks like its a lot beefier. The only doubt i have with the manix is all the jimping.

I have had 2 pm2s as of today, and a manix 2. I at first hated the pm2, but i just got a new one to give it a second try. I love the weight of the manix, substantial but not heavy. The lock is definitely more durable, it’s ergonomics are better imo, the g10 wasnt as rough which is great. I prefer the compression lock for general use, the neutral shape is pretty good for most people compared to the grooves on the manix, i wish the backs of both were completely closed on both for the sake of getting dirt in them in pockets. Im personally biased to the manix 2 because its just such an amazing knife, but the pm2 is suitable for more tasks because of the thicker blade. Both are good but im still not a huge fan of the pm2

The Manix 2 xl is my edc . No problem with the size. I also have the discontinued Spyderco Manix 2 Burl G10 Sprint run Black DLC S90V blade . It's a little smaller but really good looking

Manix 2 all day for me. I could never warm up to the para2, always felt weird in the hand to me. Manix feels like it was made for my hands...almost the same exact grip as my xm-18's

Thanks for the info ... BTW ... very good review, interesting setting too. Shaman looks big. I will get Para 2.
@metal_complex6 жыл бұрын
I originally also thought the Shaman looked big. But the specs show it as 8 inches overall, which is the same overall length as the Manix 2, and 0.5 inches shorter than the PM2. I think its the design that makes it look so big. But the PM2 is also a great choice!

@@Clambelly For heavy duty tasks, the Shaman outclasses the pm2. Much beefier blade.

Just carry a Manix2 on one side and a PM2 on the other side.

I'm so late to this party, but I totally get the knife snob thing. I have my nice knife and my beater knife with me normally. The cheapo 2" lock-back I got with my NRA membership sees more use for box opening duty than any of the expensive knives, unless I need to do it one handed.
