Just going over my initial ramblings and thoughts on The Spyderco Sage 2. There are a couple moments in the video where I kind of say the opposite of what I am getting at but I try to make sure I clarify if I did.
The Sage 2 is a work of art, and another one of those knives that the price tag is justified through the intangibles and accumulation of fine details. Thanks for watching!

I'll say this about my Sage in CF. ..borderline the best I own. It's a great go-between a full, tactical style folder and a gent's. S30v is quality steel that doesn't take too much effort to put an edge to without getting deep into sharpening tools, which provides value. Ergos as you stated are terrific, I have men's medium hands, so it's perfect. Forward choil an gimping are in perfect harmony for detail work. Aesthetically it's a great looker, the real decision is economics, so it's smart to have handle/steel options, just like this Para 2 deluge they unleashed recently. I'm good with the CF version, the $200 options aren't necessary for me currently, but things change. It's just a terrific design with excellent choices depending on your style and expectations. Cool review.

Ranger Jon Outdoors thanks for the quick acknowledgement...the other point/question would be do you like it enough to buy the same blade with a different purchase experience? The Sage is one of those blades that can be a user, or with different scales or handle customization a bit of a show/conversation piece with other gearheads. Either way, terrific design.

Absolutely. I think its just an amazing utilitarian blade shape. There's always a point where price limits what you're willing to do though haha!

Expensive is relative, for $200 compared to $375 for a small Sebenza, its a damn bargain. Sooooo much more ergonomic than the Sebenza and with the thinner blade stock and flat grind, an amazing slicer, too. Carried one daily for about 4 years and still looks almost new. I also love the sound it makes, just like thumb cocking a S&W revolver. Bought 2 more in case I loose one and can still have a pristine one for my collection.

The Sage is a great knife. I’ve owned the bolt action model for a few years but just got the compression lock one a few days ago and it is pretty perfect. Keep up the videos, you have a nice style.

Unfortunately discontinued. For me its one of the best edcs ever produced and a better relation price to value against the beloved small Sebenza . Sage 2 Its just perfection. I believe you can still get them at knifecenter.

Thanks Paddy! It's pricey for sure. Spyderco has got to reign in these price hikes. This knife used to be in the $155-165 range a few years ago and that's honestly where it should still sit. Thanks for watching as always!

I got a Sage 2 for my birthday a few years ago, and loved it. I lost it when it fell out of my pocket in a grocery store a few months after I got it. I'm still bummed about that.

Maybe I'm weird but I prefer s30v to xhp. I get the same edge retention but more corrosion resistance out of my pm2 and sages as I do out of my slysz swayback and code 4

Sage 2 is a great knife.. The F&F on the Taichung models is the best. I only have the Sage 1 which I love.. I've owned over 30 Spydercos and well over 15 with S30V.. I couldn't disagree more..Many S30V knives I've owned are chippy.. I have a brand new Manix 2 that came with 5 small chips in blade.. IMO-One thing Benchmade does right is their heat treat.. I find their S30V much better then Spyderco... We have similiar taste in knives.. I'm sure you know your knives too.. Maybe just different experiences..

As great as I think the Sage 2 is, My Sage 1 is quickly becoming a top 3 favorite knives for me. It really just is fantastic. It's funny how I've had the exact opposite experience and opinion of S30v between Spyderco and Benchmade haha. I find Spyderco's S30v to be much better and durable, especially after the edge geometry gets backed down to 30 inclusive. Thanks for commenting!

Hi Jon, I sent a reply and a question but I realize replies are not always received from KZbin. I have one question, If weight and locking type were not a factor which knife would you choose for light EDC and food prep, Spyderco UKPK in CTS-BD1 steel or the Byrd Raven 2? I am on the fence about these two knives and I would greatly appreciate your input. Barry Levitt

Howdy Barry. If light edc is what you’re after I’d go UKPK all day! The Raven 2 is definitely more robust, heavier, thicker, larger all around, etc. ukpk is an amazing edc Blade. One of the very best

I also recommend spending the extra cash and getting the S110V UKPK. It is one of THE finest light edc non hard use blades ever made in my opinion.

The S110V is not a steel I am interested in. I have used knives for over 35 years for camping and backpacking. During most of this time a fixed blade was the main option and to this day my favorite steels are A2 01 and D2. These are tough steels that hold a good convex edge and are easily sharpened. However, my biggest reason for not getting the S110v is your comment that this steel does not strop well. Jon, Thanks for the follow up information and your time. Have a great day.

Hi Jon, I would appreciate some feed back on the Kershaw Dividend in M390, I have a ZT 0770 with black aluminum handle scales which are way too slippery, I have not handled a dividend but are the handle scales very slippery? Please provide your feed back. A small knife company called Manly Knives produced in Sofia, Bulgaria produced some of the best fit and finish knives I have ever used. They only have 4 models in three steel options, D2, CPM154 or S90v. I have two, The Comrade and the Patriot in D2. Their D2 is the best I have ever used. The Model that you may like the best is very similar to the Paramilitary 2 is the Peak, 70.00 in D2. Cutting edge bevels are 15 degrees per side. Kevin Cleary has two videos on this knife. They do Have a U.S. distributor. Keep up the informative and enjoyable videos. Have a great day. Barry Levitt

Howdy Barry. Personally I wasn't terribly impressed with the M390 Dividend in the end. I made a couple of videos updating my experience if you're interested. It's a great price for M390 sure, but the scales were slippery for sure, the knife routinely worked its way up out of my pocket a couple times, they scratched easy, and I had multiple issues with the screws and handles stripping out on the knife more times than just the once I talked about in the video. I personally feel in the size and price range you can do much better looking into the Spyderco Chapparral FRN, Native 5 Lightweight, UKPK in S110v, a gently used Sage 1, or even a ZDP Delica for just about $15 more-ish. Unfortunately the Dividend was one of those things that really wowed me at first, but once I spent sometime with it, and actually started trying to sharpen, maintain, carry, and use it on a daily basis, It because very apparent - very quickly that it wasn't for me. I'll check out the Manly knives for sure! quite a few folks have told me about them. Thanks for commenting and take it easy!

Hi Jon, Thanks for the information on the Kershaw dividend. I do have one additional question: Which knife would you choose for light edc and food prep, the Spyderco UKPK in CTS-BD1 steel or the Byrd Raven 2? I look forward to your reply. Take Care. Barry Levitt
