Thanks for the mention! I still prefer the regular one. I just don't think it's light enough to call it a lightweight.

I was just like you man, I walked in SMKW 200 times and never even looked up at the Spyderco counter. That price and that hole... But I'm a sucker for a deal so scrolling threw FB market place I found a Manix 2 LW in Maximet with a Orange Meerkat for $200..... Well that's a deal but if I could take them down to $150 I'll run to Knoxville and pick them up. Well they came down and man I was so impressed with how nice the fit and finish and how sharp they were strait out of the box. They were in brand new never carried still in the factory fresh boxes. Now there are so many I want, still haven't played with a compression lock but there are plenty of them on my wish list. Thanks for sharing brother and congratulations on the win!!!

That's definitely smaller than I normally prefer to carry, but I handled a Native 5 a while back, and I can see the draw of a knife like that. It's just big enough to get most stuff done with ease, and yet the ergos make it still fit larger hands well. Nice review, JB.

Two different animals. The Sage line are all comfortable and smooth and you can take your pick of lock style. Try a Sage 1, liner lock or a 5 with compression lock, you'll never go back.

The regular Sage 5 is a great knife, probably my favorite Spyderco. The " lightweight " really isn't much lighter than the original, just over a quarter ounce. It's not a noticeable difference like the Para 3.
@BigRedEDC5 жыл бұрын
I don't have the regular version so hadn't compared them as far as weight. I don't think any of the LW versions are that much different than the originals. Just another way to sell more of the same thing really...lol! I do like the size though...fits my hand well!!
@randyf.91885 жыл бұрын
@@BigRedEDC Your right, just another marketing strategy. The Para 3 LW is actually an ounce lighter with a better clip. That should just be the FRN Sage 5, but there's no wow factor in that. 🤑

Most Spydercos have such good ergonomics, that they are a joy to use, regardless of what anyone thinks of the way they look. They almost become an extension of your hand. Great review as usual JB. You do a good job. We all have our own preferences, so I can't condemn anyone for liking the light weights, but for me, I'm not willing to sacrifice the feel and rigidity of G10 just to shave a half ounce or so of weight. I get it if you wear gym shorts a lot, but I don't, so weight has never been an issue to me. I do like the design though, but I think if I ever decide to get one, it will be the G10/CF laminate version. That's just me though. To each their own. I'm glad they offer both options for those who do like the lighter weight versions. I'm just not a fan of plastics.
@BigRedEDC5 жыл бұрын
The ergos are very good for sure! The LW versions don't weight that much less that the originals so it basically comes down to material as you said! This one was a raffle win and I had my choice between 5 different knives. This one was the one that looked the most intriguing at the time I guess...lol!! Great review JB. I recently had some extra cash and came down to getting the Sage 5 lightweight, or a Bugout. I got the Sage and I'm very happy with it .
