It doesn't need re-making, the information is excellent. It doesn't need babes in bikini's etc, keep it simple and educational, which this is.

My Sharpmaker just arrived today and I have to say this is one of the few items you can buy today that actually works at home like it does in a video. Spyderco knives are great and now the sharpmaker is great. SAL you are a genius, now I have the same respect for you as I do for Phil Wilson, you are officially one of the greats! Thank-you so much for really great products at realistic prices!

I owned 5 Hair salons and tried buying machines way back 30 yrs ago when all they were , were glorified grinders with a clamp. I was able to sharpen a 400 dollar pair of 30 yr old Japanese scissors. "they don't even make these any more", as they would cost way too much, but after watching them sit there for so long, I decided to try doing them with the Sharp maker. After a few strokes at various positions, I was able to get a good edge o them with the super fine stone. They are pretty much like before. I was able to cut a dry head of grey hair with no problem or slippage.

Just ordered one of these along with the ultra fine stones which I read so many people say they wish the ultra fine stones came with this kit. I'm so tired of dull knives when cleaning fish, I'm not the greatest at filleting but hopefully with a sharp knife it will make it easier. Really glad I found out what the name of this sharpener is because about 15 years ago I seen Sal at the superdome in New Orleans, LA showing his sharpener off but never bought it. So it's about time I bought one.

@SpydercoKnives Well if you did make sure Sal is in the video! And dont change any of the content. I love seeing how practical my sharpmaker can be. My major complaint is that although this video is probably only 10 years old it looks like it was filmed in the 70s. Maybe a simple re shoot will suffice! Thanks for listening spyderco!

Sal- Loved this video & you in it. My Spyderco knives have the best points @ edge of any knives new from the factory and I want to maintain that "scary" sharpness. A person can spend a lifetime learning how to perfect an edge, so most of us are newbies. I would suggest focusing on the point & tip a little more to prevent rounding. Great vid- thumbs up!

@SpydercoKnives I would like you to talk about what people do now, such as marking or coloring their edge with marker to see where steel is being taken off. Thanks again for the video!

I realise this video is quite old and this has probably been suggested, but have you considered making a version with angle adjustment? The lack of adjustment or angle options is the only thing about this system that makes me hesitant to buy it. I've been researching sharpeners and I like this system for its versatility and because it is halfway between free hand and something like the Lansky system. I've been trying to learn free hand, but I would like a system that can achieve repeatable results so that I can see first hand what I'm aiming for in terms of bevel angle and end result.

Has there been many archery hunters using the sharpmaker for their broadheads? And if so what is the best way to go about sharpening them?

@gaveintothedarkness Thanks for the suggestion! If it were to be remade (it probably won't be for a while) what would you like to see differently?

After watching several videos I now have to ask is this sharpener going to be normal or very hard to use with the super steels?
@Hutzjohn11 жыл бұрын
That was great instruction Sal. Thank-you. I assume since you developed it, it can sharpen any Spyderco knive. In relation to remaking this video next time include some of the super steels like CPM S90V, CTS 20CP, CPM S30V, CPM M4 M390. Would really like to see you work a Southfork, a Paramilitary in S90V & CTS 20CP and a Military in M390 and a M4 Gayle Bradley would sure be most helpful as these are the knives I have. Thanks again!

I would love to see it sharpen a Bubba Blade. Its a new fishing and hunting fillet knife that is supposed to have a very sharp blade out of the box and a hard knife steel to accompany its sharpness. I have bought one and have seen it used, but I have yet to see how to sharpen it, once it looses its edge. If you could make a video on that, it would be a great help. Thanks

I have a 25+ year old system from spyderco. It is the same excepting the base. I did not have the option of watching a you tube video back then. Wish I had. I am getting the ole girl out and using her anew! If I could buy the newer base only I would be game!

I would like to know how to sharpen a scandi grind with this product
@Pinki20196 жыл бұрын
For a scandi grind you flip the sharpmaker over and place the rods together flat (like he does when sharpening a chisel). Then you freehand it. It's easy to find the right angle on scandi grinds so you can do it easily in this manner, in contrast to other grinds where you need some skill to get the right angle.

Maybe not sharpening a straight razor with the stone. It will tear up the edge very fast. And you will feel a difference in your shave. (I do not shave though) Most of my knifes even the cheap ones can shave. (Free-hand stone) and watching you sharpen the razor on the stone made my cringe...
