Big Game James is hands down my favorite basketball player of all time. Went to Carolina, my second favorite program next to UCLA. Was elated when the Lakers drafted him. His game was a thing of beauty. So glad to have seen Worthy and the Showtime Lakers play in the greatest era of basketball

WOW.Good video,never seen this one before,Worthy is very well spoken and intelligent. Watching the footage from old games was nostalgic for me,a totally different nba back then.I really LOVED watching nba & college basketball back then,buying many basketball magazines too.Worthy was such a great player,glad he left the game and not hanging around too long.

James is so humble and underrated, all he wanted to do was win, even though the Lakers were flashy, everyone kept their ego in check, it was about the team not individual players

Stellar. Ps In 2013, Michael Jordan was asked to name his all-time starting five, which naturally included himself. He then went with Scottie Pippen, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, and Hakeem Olajuwon.

Did you notice @ 3:13 there wasn't allot of cheers when Worthy was selected number 1 by the Lakers? Reason just about everyone on earth believed the Lakers were going to select the human highlight film Dominque Wilkins instead. As it turned out you couldn't have gone wrong with either pick.

...I remember it well! The diehard Lakers fan's didn't want Worthy. They didn't think he was a good fit! That's why you don't judge the book by looking at the cover. Worthy was the big gun at NC, he grabbed the rebound and scored at Wil.
@miri9885
@miri9885 2 жыл бұрын
@@tommylove9270 Speaking of UNC most people fail to remember or don't know the UNC team that won the national title with Worthy, Perkins, Jordan, etc.. Was led by James Worthy he was the best player on that team. People think it was Jordan, but it wasn't. Worthy wasn't as flashy as Wilkens but was a great defender, great post player, great rebounder, and ran the break extremely well, and was a solid finisher. You couldn't go wrong with either guy really since Dominique was as good as they come as well.
@vingthor13

To be honest , Nique NEEDED to be the best player on his team. Just the type personality he has. James was more adaptable. AND...dont get me wrong ... With Magic & Cap on the team..MANY times James was STILL the best player on that damn team!
@miri9885

@@vingthor13 There was no bad choice to make between the two really. Worthy although not as dynamically flashy as Dominique was more versatile.

The 1982 NBA draft was one of the best drafts in NBA history. In 1982, the NBA champions LA Lakers had the first pick in the NBA draft and it was only fitting that the NBA champions picked a collegiate champion named James Worthy over other great college basketball players like Dominique Wilkins, Terry Cummings and Clark Kellogg - all of them were forwards, ironically. Worthy couldn’t wear #52 (like he did at North Carolina) simply because of All-Star forward Jamaal Wilkes. A #42 jersey-wearing Worthy didn’t care because midway in his second season he took the starting small forward position from an injured and aging Wilkes. Worthy never looked back. By 1985, Worthy was an all-star caliber player. In 1987, he became Big Game James and the rest is history⛹🏽‍♂️🏀🏆🏆🏆.

@2:25 Players back then weren't caught up in making millions because it didn't quite exist, dude played bec they loved the game they were trying to get college scholarships, options were limited. Now you get kids eyeballing multi-milion dollar contracts & shoe deals. What got lost was the grit the grime and the love of competition.

JAMES IS STAR . DOMINIQUE IS A SUPERSTAR . THE LAKERS WOULD ' VE WON MORE CHAMPIONSHIPS AND WOULD BE MORE POPULAR THAN ARE AND SHOWTIME WOULD BE. BIGGER , IF THEY SELECTED DOMINIQUE . BUT , THEIR THINKING WAS DOMINIQUE IS TOO MUCH OF AN INDIVIDUAL SHOWMAN . HE IS TOO FLASHY . WE WANT A LOW KEY PLAYER . NOT SO FLASHY .>🎤
@naturalfinish
@naturalfinish 2 жыл бұрын
They are both on the same level for all intents and purposes. Wild speculation to suggest that they would be more popular or bigger or win more with Dominique. Worthy was incredible in the play offs. West drafted Worthy because he played a better and more efficient game that was suited for showtime.

Worthy was also a better all around defender. Post & Perimeter. He had the strength to defend 3 4,5, and the quickness to guard 1 &2.

I love Dominique but I believe that they made the right selection to their personnel you know Dominique probably wouldn't have fit the team mold being a 25-27 point game score and the person who who needed the ball magic was the star that is needed something they just wanted people that were going to fall in line
@RaiderGannon12
@RaiderGannon12 2 жыл бұрын
I do think about that often, James Worthy would have been the man for the Atlanta Hawks, would have average more points, Dominique Wilkins in a Lakers uniform playing for the Showtime Lakers just wow, but for chemistry reasons don't think it would have worked, Magic Johnson and Dominique Wilkins most likely would have clashed with each other. James Worthy was willing to accept not being the main man on the team, probably due to the reason of him loving the L.A life and not wanting to messed that up.
@RemoWilliams1227
@RemoWilliams1227 2 жыл бұрын
I think they made the right pick but picking Nique instead wouldn't have hurt by any means. Maybe not as good defensively but The highlight film certainly wouldn't have stopped them from winning.
