My personal favorite moments: 3:23 the fleet is heading off to battle. We hear the 2nd Fleet’s theme once again but this time, rather than being triumphant and demanding attention, it is solemn, and sad. Hinting that this battle will be a costly one, and many will not survive. The shots of all the ships is amazing as well! 6:05 great way of showing the kingship for the first time. “What are they waiting for?” … “that…” as a massive ship exits the gas cloud. Incredible. 8:24 the massive amount of fighters flying straight for the fleet, Bishop yelling “FIRE!” As the entire fleet erupts in cannon fire as we once again hear the 2nd fleet’s theme, but this time in a battle-like tone. Amazing! 9:57 the strategy and depth of the dialogue is really good! Cool to see the makeup of the fleet as well. 17:33 amazing way of introducing Squadron 42. And the music is INCREDIBLE 20:28 the subtle strategy here is great. Bishop, the previous time they were hit, ordered shields to drop an extra 30%. This leads the kingship to become cocky, focusing on taking out the Krugeri. Bishop raises shields again last second and, with the energy presumably being used up on the kingship, the ship is weakened, allowing Squadron 42 to deal massive damage. The relief in the crew’s voice is amazing, and the shot of 42 launching the rockets with amazing music playing in the background is epic. Great writing and directing. 24:12 lastly, the fact that NO ONE on the bridge left when Bishop said that non essential personnel could leave was great. Showed how good of a leader Bishop was, that they all wanted to stay and fight to the end. I don’t care what people say about the length of development, if this level of cinematic masterpiece is carried out through the whole game, it’s worth waiting till 2026.

@Nurhaal21 күн бұрын
Watching this on silent actually reveals it's rather dull. It relies way too heavy on tropes and ambience to pump you into the moment. In silence, its a master class of boring in terms of the build up and "Omg, haven't we seen this before. Two masses of ships line up and wait until dramatic Orchestra kicks in before opening fire in a massive brain dead exchange of explosions and pew pews." Character direction is particularly good in silent, but the overall writing for the scenario is ... well... boring. There's no maneuvering, posturing, or no hunt for more information or data (which is crucial in warfare of this scale and advanced type) So why am I so harsh here? Because actual films provide a good starting point for how it can be done and done where it respects the intellegence of the viewers/player. The old Battle Star: Galactica pilot move from 50 years ago is a perfect case in which even in silence, theres more setup, payoff, narration and nothing is too boring. The context is built up and believed by the viewer. The military forces, despite being on a peace cruise, still has Scouts hunting for information, and the enemy doesn't even reveal their base ships (which is spoken of in the dialogue) because actual military maneuvering and strategy was employed- namely remote refueling by the Cylons so that they could launch a strike for an ambush, while the base stars are positioned elsewhere. The show, even in near silence, shows the severity of the battle as well as the scale of the war itself - the strategy of the Cylon attack is actually a multisystem invasion with devastating effect and it allows the suspension of disbelief to remain intact considering the context of what narrative explores.

Remember back in games like Freespace where there was a huge battle and you just played through it rather than being dragged out to watch an elongated cut scene then dumped back for another 4-5 minutes of grudging game play, that was nice I liked that.
@Billy-bc8pkАй бұрын
That happens here, but not in the prologue -- that is part of the end sequence when you join Squadron 42 and there is an all-out epic space battle that involves combined arms both in space and on ground, involving ships, vehicles and a mech assault that you get to play through.
@maddlarkinАй бұрын
@Billy-bc8pk Okay, but how does that work, is it one continous gameplay sequence where you as a single character do all those things, or is it like here where you watch a bit of cut scene, play as one thing for a bit and then have another cut scene before switching perspective, becuase that broken up style of gameplay gets really old really fast
@Billy-bc8pkАй бұрын
@@maddlarkin Depends -- in Star Citizen it's all continuous with seamless gameplay from one vehicle or planetary surface to the next. All we know is that the Titan mech suits are in there, and it's an epic battle that starts in space and ends up on the ground -- there is definitely a cinematic when your ship is shot down and one of your teammates helps pull you from the wreckage. So obviously there is a transition there. No idea how many other transitions there are between those segments, though. One of the missions they showed off where you could either storm in or stealth into a facility with the ship was seamless from planetary entry all the way to the base infiltration and rescuing a captured teammate, with the only cinematic being when you freed her.
@maddlarkinАй бұрын
@Billy-bc8pk This sequence looks very much like a game director who'd much rather be making a movie, it seems to indicate long cut scenes moving transitioning to short gameplay sections, this may just be this intro section, but it doesn't bode well for the rest of the game as it looks very much like the players hand will get slapped away from the controls so they can't interfear with something cool happening. Freespace is a good comparison, in that game you had an intro cutscene then it's all I game till the end, even the men's are set out to be the ships hangers, when in the first game your home ship is killed it's not in a cut scene, you see it from the cockpit of the fighter in mission. This start stop game play can really take the player out of the experience, especially with how long these cut scenes are, just as your getting immersed your yanked into a cut scene and made to sit there and watch for 5 minutes.
@alexander.thomas.wang.thomsenАй бұрын
@@maddlarkinthey didn’t showcase it here, but they developed the cutscenes so that you can just back out and have them play from your character’s perspective while you do your own thing. Takes away the cinematic glory of the cutscenes camera angles of course, but they wanted to make sure players weren’t forced to just sit and watch. Think of the cutscenes more like dynamic events and dialogues that you can back out of, with npc reactions depending on context.

@@IrradiatedFeline they’re designed according to “rule of cool”. The windows are in lore not made of glass, but of transparent material of equal toughness to the rest of the Armour. Isn’t realistic, but that isn’t the point of this game. It’s a space opera designed to be cool “World War 2 but in space smth smth”, a bit like Star Wars and such

Even the gundam series had more realistic protocols than this: it was mandatory for crew to be in space suits whenever they are waging a space battle .. it should be common sense.

Space is not a flat plane to consider a one direction of attack. It can be in any direction,even backside or underbelly.humabs always fight dirty to make finalization

I read about this, problem is that controlling such a large fleet, you need to be in unison. If they are all around the place tilted all around, the orders can confuse and create more chaos and collisions. Although you are right, you could definitely attack from underbelly, but you don't want your ships to be seen, so something has to be there to cover, like with Squadron 42 and the asteroid field.

@@danilantos881 yup. Stealth will be a good role for the element of suprise.

@@bapkurisu6404 You should check out the 50 vs 50 space fleet battles between orgs that people conduct in Star Citizen; they play out very similarly to the video above. While the game does support 6DOF, as danilantos pointed out, it's very difficult to coordinate when everyone is all over the place.

So is the game out yet? Can I actually go and buy this and play it? Or is this just another shiny thing that won’t actually be available for years and years and years (if ever) from now?
@santhoshsridhar5887Ай бұрын
You can pay like 40-50$ and buy Star Citizen with a starter ship, which is open world online part, whereas this is a linear campaign that takes place in the same system and planets as Star Citizen. Of course, Star Citizen itself is extremely buggy and requires decently high system requirements and probably a flight stick. But it's fun when there's no server errors.
@corvus2512Ай бұрын
@@santhoshsridhar5887 so….. no, the answer is no, I can’t go and buy this game. Just a starter pack for some buggy MMO? I’ll check back in the 2030s to see if an ACTUAL game has been released by then
