Personally, not interested as I'm still waiting for the Collection to finally be brought over to Xbox and as well as an Xbox Physical Port of the Collection. It would be a waste of money for me to buy a PS4 or Switch Physical Copy when I don't use those Consoles anymore. My PS4 and Switch Consoles have been laid to rest for the remainder of eternity. Maybe one day I'll use them again. But right now, my Xbox is my most used Console.

I still think the definitive versions of each game are as follows: FF1: PSP FF2: PSP FF3: 3D version, either PSP or PC FF4: PSP FF5: GBA FF6: GBA (or T-Edition rom hack of SNES) All of those versions have a ton of extra content that isn't in the Pixel Perfect versions. T-Edition is a rom hack of 6 that adds a ton of new content and bosses, great for a second playthrough is you want 100+ hours of bonus content.

Pixel Remaster has maps for each area in each game, and a fast forward function. The older games don't have these 2 amazing qol features!

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork The fast forward function is exactly as it says, you can speed the game up by pressing it. So you can run even faster, make boring battles faster to kill the enemies if grinding or can leave it on the entire time on battles and during exploration and so on. These are what they call quality of life upgrades because maybe this or that player doesn't have that much free time to play so they can use these functions and get thru the game faster. This includes getting more experience points and getting more money after each battle. If you got the pixel remaster it should be under the config settings or options settings. I forgot where exactly. The Fast Forward is really useful. I don't use the other ones. I wish it had make the enemy stronger or increase their difficult and not just be a cheap higher HP thing but an increase in intelligence and no cheap crap like it's reading my input commands.

I think the collection itself is great. You can argue that they aren't the best versions of each game. And that's fair. However, the soundtracks are the best versions, in my opinion. It's the only way to play the original version of III outside of emulation. It has quality of life enhancements. I am very happy with it.

@@talibong9518 The arrangements are handled in the most bland and insipid way they could have. If you want to hear good arrangments, go play the Live A Live remake or Trials of Mana remake. In regards to III, to be honest the spritework is so unprofessional and bad looking in the Pixel Remasters that I genuinely prefer the NES sprites. At least those look like they had effort and thought put into them.

My favorite way to play the early Final Fantasies is with the PS1 versions (with the sweet anime cutscenes) on my white 13” Sony Trinitron CRT tv. I imported. But it is very much a 7/10. 1, 2, and 4's definitive version is still the PSP ones. Which includes all the GBA additions plus After Years in the case of 4. So the Pixel Remasters become mainly a nice version of 6 (albeit without the GBA extra content), the 1st official sprite based version of 3 in English (only the 3d Remake exists in English), and FF5 which is harder to find as it has only been released with FF Anthology (PS1) and the GBA port.

I'm still waiting for Nintendo to release more of those NES classic consoles that came preloaded with classic NES games. That was ridiculous with how few of those were released. I remember in my town of 1,500 people, we got a total of 12 NES classic consoles. 6 at Walmart and 6 at Gamestop.

I mostly love this. What I can’t stand is the fact that they left in the frame rate issue with your main character and the backgrounds so it always stutters. There are mods to fix this on pc and steam deck, but if you’re buying the switch version, like I did initially, you’re just screwed.

I guess it's one of those "most people don't notice" kind of things that they don't consider being worth the money or time to fix. It drives me nuts, personally. But at least there's a mod for it on the Steam Deck. Not a total loss but it feels more "right" to play it on the Switch and I can't because it makes me crazy.

Yes, Final Fantasy 6 had a planned super boss in the original release but due to time restriction had to be cut out which was the Csar Dragon I believe and it exists in the ROM but not accessible thru normal means but in the Gameboy Advance version he's finally put in there which is bs because the PS 1 got FF6 too but Square wee too lazy to add him to the game. Extra dungeon added also on the advance version. Unfortunately, this is also the version where they censored the Celes being beaten up by an Empire guard and each release after has used this bs censorship including the pixel remaster. They can add an option so players can decide if they want the extra stuff or not and warn them that the action cannot be undone . This pixel remaster will never be the definitive version until they add in the extra's that each numbered FF's received in their re-releases prior to the pixel remaster version and add back all of the censored scenes and images like the FF6 Celes scene I mentioned above back in. They also still need to fix that ugly scrolling effect in FF6 intro with the Magitek walking in the snow it is hideous still and they need to get off their lazy azz and use the English font from the SNES U.S. FF3 English release apply it there and also to the ending. The white text clashes at times during the ending and it is hideous in that intro so using that font will resolve it, be more readable and beautiful them like the original version. Sometimes in the dialogue box the red text can be hard to read they need to fix that. Probably forgetting other things I just want this to be the definitive version. Also, I think it was f'd up that we PC players had to wait over a year just to get new patches where they included the extra's the console folks received which includes the inclusion of the original soundtrack when that should of been there from the start. Also, an option to let us decide which of the opera song we can listen to so we don't have to listen to our own respective language version because I don't give a damn if Nobuo Uematsu thought it would make more sense for the Japanese and English opera singers to sing amateurish instead of like the original with the suspension of belief that Celes can actually sing. It's ridiculous to hire those singers and ask them to hold back their talent instead of singing the best they can for their respective language which is which is I am so glad the Italians and the French did not listen to that stoopid order and sung their heart out (including Dario's singer and the other guy) making their opera version superior then the English and Japanese version which I had to mod out the English version to hear the Italian version, thanks for nothing Enix. If there's a FF6 remake I hope you at Square and Nobuo Uematsu don't make that same mistake again on the opera scene.

The PR of FFVI is really the best way to try a LLG since you can just turn off XP when necessary but maybe that's just me since i am trying that but going more for perfect stats and part of that is a LLG.

GBA versions FF1,2,4,5 and 6 has Bonus content, Read more for spoilers. FF1 has 4 of FF3,4,5 and 6 bosses in em, PSP version has more bonus content, -- FF2 has a New story with 4 dead characters , when the Original game is beaten, PSP Version has more content, -- FF4 has 10 party members instead of the Fixed 5, Bonus Dungeon open if the game is beaten, but to fully experience that Bonus Dungeon, had to beat the game 3 times, each character has a Bonus Dungeon that are themed around em, Have to beat the game with each character with Cecil , since Cecil can't be removed, can bring 4 others. PSP version has the same content, has FF4 Interlude (story that starts after 4's ending that leads to 4 The After Years) and 4 The After Years also in the PSP Version. -- FF5 has New Jobs, fight a Boss that was mentioned, but never got to fight it ever on the older versions or Pixel ReMastere. -- FF6 has 2 new Bonus dungeons, 1 is a Boss Rush, other if defeated certain 7 wandering Bosses. Which can be unlocked before fighting the Final Boss. -- On FF5 and 6 on the GBA and the old mobile versions that are gone and replaced by Pixel Remasters, I had fun with the new Bosses, i actually had to change my powerful set ups a few times.

I feel like to really be fair and honest you should have mentioned the fact that physical copies of games don’t sell as well anymore. Square may have wanted to see what demand for the pixel remasters would actually be before spending the money to print a lot of physical copies. It’s also possible they waited to finish all their planned patches before printing this run which could be why it has taken so long.

I enjoy I - III, however..... IV on the PSP is the best version of that, V on GBA or I guess even mobile is the best version of that (the extra content was actually good, jobs etc). The graphically modded version of the PC VI though with the guy doing the CRAZY artwork overhaul is honestly the greatest thing I've ever seen. There were just aspects of the pixel remasters that went above and beyond, like the new OSTs. I dunno man it's a tough call on whether this will be a buy or not.

I don't know. "Definitive" isn't what I'd call it, because the accessibility and the chance to play these games is somewhat arbitrary. Like yeah we get it, it was for Japan at the time, but then everyone else had a time/period where they had their "own" version, you know. I grew up in the 90s, didn't get a chance to play SNES FF, but I tried after FF9, 7, 8, and at the time I wasn't able to finish them. I had only gotten PS copies of 4-6 by the time GBA came. When the GBA era came, I played the hell out of 1, 2, and 4, whilst playing 10 and 10-2. My 5 and 6 were left unplayed because 12 came, then RW, and life happened, and I got DS for 3. Then PSP came and the 1 and 2 anniversary versions were real awesome. Then Dissidia came. Then 13. I only finished the 6A Somewhat recently. I guess what I'm saying is, they should have settled for a more recent paradigm for these games - the "bonus" and improved content we got for the advanced/anniversary versions were more definitive for some of us. Other youtube people even made their own "which version should you play" and honestly those versions proved to stand out than the earlier versions. Yes, we get nostalgia kicks serious ass, but bucks should get serious bang, you know? The PSP versions from 1-4, and the GBA 5-6 (because they didn't remake 5-6 at all, and went to the 3-part 7) are honestly more definitive for me, not pixel remaster. Going back at it with 5 advanced version, but with other newer backlogs, it makes you think back - there was a time we wanted them to remake 1-6 with the DS/PSP 3d treatment. And then there was the time we wanted them to go Octopath style remake on our Final Fantasy grounded butts, but I can't really say they listened. Grandia (and Breath of Fire) has Terra Memoria. Breath of Fire has Tears of Magic. Suikoden has Eiyuden Chronicles. Wild Arms has Armed Fantasia. Shadow Hearts has Penny Blood. Chrono Trigger/Cross has Sea of Stars. FF had Lost Odyssey, Octopath, Bravely, even Triangle Srategy Then again, not all spiritual successors succeeded, Trigger also had Blue Dragon. Sidescroller Megaman had Mighty No. 9. Harder to trust the same people these days.

I only buy games digitally, since 2015, and sometimes swtich games like the Fire Emblem Series(Three Houses etc), because i can't buy them for steam to play on the pc. The rest will be emulated, if needed. Most great JRPGs and ARPGS are not distributed anymore and there are no plans, games like Terranigma, but Actraiser was remade, so there is some hope here. But look at the Phantasy Star Series, one of the first really good JRPGs with great OST and Story. Sega does not seem to care much about this series. There is the sega collection on steam to play the old games in an official emulated port, but the remasters are unavailible. Not to mention Shining Force III - how i am supposed to play that in Europe for example? Or Xenogears? Both these games never got an release in Europe and PAL regions and looks like they never got a port either, so even in the U.S. it might be a challenge to play these games today. As european, you really do not care that much about physical copies and just go emulate it, i mean i bought a pc as a teenager after my nes/snes/megadrive/ps1 years, because publishers refused to distribute their JRPGS worldwide - FF7,8,9 was an example how hit should be done. Xenogears and Shinging Force III were negative examples how you shouldn't do it. It really angers me missing out of these games, so i just moved on to western RPGs. Playing Trails in the Sky FC now though, since its on steam. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pixelremaster of FF I-VI: 1. Nice some publisher did something at all. 2. PSP has still the superior versions, expecially FF IV complete comes to mind, looks much better and has more content. I played the original SNES version, since i am 45. Why should my sprites be pixelated? It wasn't so pixelated on the TV screen in the 90ies either, i know i played it in 1992-96. Also who called for an easy mode, when you were nostalgic about your favorite games, and wished for a harder mode, but with the same 2D look? Make these games hard as FF IV 3D and make them look like the PSP version that would be the best port for switch and steam. I think SE is al ittle bit out of touch with everything, i expect better, but so is SEGA.

Square just wanted a bunch of us to double dip i just bought the collection being on sale for $60 and having a blast 💥 on the final fantasys i missed.

when this was first shown last year i really wanted it till i saw the ridiculous price they where charging this second release is more my price so shall grab switch as i preffer to play rpg games on handheld devices.

Steam has a sale on the bundle right now with all the games but the sale just brings it down to the price of a regular new game because they had been selling it at a premium. Not the coolest move for square and stream so hope it stays at this price or lower.

I regrettably decided to go for the digital versions, because of the steep asking price of the physical version, at over 100€ with shipping. The cover art also looks like the laziest job they could possibly do, so that further convinced me to stay away from the physical edition. I am glad square is printing more copies, but it does not change anything for me, good if it hurts scalpers. I love this version of the games, I wish Square also added full compatibility with SNES and NES official controllers and I wish they used more of the 2D-HD seen for FFVI. It seems to me that they dedicated a bit more attention to that game. The font is now better but should be a little bit bigger, seeing half a balloon empty at almost every dialogue is inelegant. I dont care about the lack of additional content from the GBA port, as this was not part of the vision of the game director.

I already put in the effort to get the Switch one from PlayAsia. Why should I give them more money for the playstation version? I hate that I feel compelled to get it for collection purposes when they knew this would drive sales.

Watch the ESRB version tank like a brick hitting the bottom of a lake now… lol. I see PS4 copies on EBay still for 300.00-400.00. I’ll see it go to under a 100 by end of this week

One censored scene is in the first time meeting Celes on Final Fantasy 6 when you're controlling Locke's route early in the game. He goes to the town of South Figaro and when you meet Celes she is getting her beat up by the guards in the original and PSX versions. However, when extra content was included a rating system was implemented in Japan and Square Enix wanted to lower the rating so they censored the Celes scene to now be awkward af where nothing is happening but yelling from the guards. This is the version that has been used since then and this is in the pixel remaster version. You can look this up.
