In an effort to keep this swap as simple as possible, swapping the input on the stock transfer case was the way to go. First time tearing an np208 apart, and putting it back together and it really wasn't bad. Matt should have years and years and years of trouble free use out of it.

Great series Jason. I'm looking to do this at some point on my 81 k20. The208 is a great transfer case. Plenty strong for most applications with a great low range ratio. Thanks for you efforts to document this.

Yes, that’s a good video! Good tips on the RTV, I would’ve made a mess. I’ve restacked needle bearings a couple times, neither time was fun, especially when a few of them end up on the shop floor amidst the debris!

If you drop your needle bearings, you're not gonna have a good time, lol. Best trick I learned about needle bearings is keep them on a magnetic tray or cup if possible, and be generous with your assembly gel or grease. Thanks for watching, glad it helped!

What adapter or adaptersss are we using to marry to trans? .. I'm doing the same with new style 4l80e & np208. Swapping 27 spline out this weekend hopefully 🙏 thanks in advance!

Use a factory adapter from the 4l80. One from a 99 to 06 silverado 2500HD will work to look it up by make and model.

Hello! Thank you very much for your videos. I'm in the middle of an swap. My base is a Jeep CJ7 (the front differential is on the passenger side) with a 5.3 LS engine and a 4L60 gearbox. Due to the side of the vehicle where the front differential is located, I chose to use an NP208 transfer case (1986 Bronco) and it uses a wire speedometer (analog type). What type of sensor should I use? I don't know how to adapt the speed sensor receiver from the wiring harness that goes to the PCM. did you have this problem? How would they solve it? thanks in advance.

Hello, so in your application, an analog to digital signal adapter would probably be the easiest solution. There are lot's of companies making them now. Here's one I found really easily with a google search. www.walterseandp.com/product-page/np208-electronic-vss-conversion-kit-r2

How did you do the speed sensor in the np208? Doing the same swap right now

@@circleo5924 I left the factory asked sensor in the 208. I used the output speed sensor in the 4l80 transmission for the computers output speed signal.

@@MohawkMotors did your 4l80e have the input and output on the trans? Most 4x4 ones just have the input and the output is on the transfer case, from what I’ve seen. My 4l80e just has the input

yes it did. and yes you're right, most 4x4 4l80's don't have the tone ring for the output speed sensor. They do make an signal adapter, that uses the factory np208 speedometer output, and generates the correct signal for the pcm to use for output speed. I think dakota digital makes it, I just did a google search and apparently them make this now also. www.walterseandp.com/product-page/np208-electronic-vss-conversion-kit-r2

So to my knowledge the np208 transfer case only came with a drive for a mechanical speedometer. They now make kits, that you can install in the tailhousing of the np208 to convert the mechanical speedometer output to an electronic signal output that can be used for speedometer.

Np 208 was available from the factory with a 32 spline input shaft, the ones that came in K20 and K30 trucks with a th400 transmission had 32 spline input's on them since the th400 transmission has a 32 spline output shaft. You can still get new 32 spline input shafts online if you want to convert your np208. That's what I did, just ordered a new one online, I think it was like $40
