You guys are making me want to tear down my very tired SMTA! SKF 6309 is not the only option. It is the severe duty fluoroelastomer lip option. 6315 is the same seal with nitrile lip. 6316 is nitrile with dust lip. 6323 is nitrile with a different lip profile. 6280 and 6285 are 0.313 thick and might fit the casting, since many of the old seals were thicker by default. The SKF catalog is online for download. Seals are listed by shaft, then bore sizes. Growing up in a parts house was fun!

I am loving this Farmal Super M project. I have to ask Senior if he was a farm equipment mechanic when he was working. He seems to know so much about Farmal Tractors.Thank you Senior and Squatch 253 for your proficient skill and work. Great video! I can hardly wait for its completion. :-) :-) :-)

Good save on the bushing and seal. A lot of what goes into being effective as a mechanic; is sometimes working with what you have. Or adjusting to the situation that you are in. The wrong seal would have stopped a lot of guys. Very well thought out solution.

@@charlienorton2337 I hate it when somebody makes it sound like they are a know-it-all. I bet you could be asked to do jobs that you wouldn't know where to start or even what attachments you should be using to set the lathe up to do the job! This may be basic lathe work but a fully trained machinist is exposed to a lot more complicated jobs. It's like saying "i can fly a single engine Cessna so a jumbo jet shouldn't be any big problem, let me in the seat"!

No you can do the whole PTO rebuild without lifting the top cover, you just have to fish the front of the PTO driveshaft around a bit to get it lined back up at the front when putting it back in 👍

I see the drilled bolt heads in the governor cover, would those have been wired/sealed at the factory??
@dansherrell68034 жыл бұрын
Yes. The wire was there so that if the owner removed it and tampered with the governor for more RPMs than factory rating that it would be evident and consequently void the warranty on the engine.

If you'll look real close (may have to freeze the vid), you see it stuck to the seal housing. Also when he slid it on, it hit with a dull thud and not a metallic clank.
