Tyler, please don't be bothered by the comments saying you over-think things. It's my supposition that most people don't think enough. All the best things made, constructed, devised, are a result of "over-thinking" it...think about it. Lol. When a guy has to make every minute count, thinking things through will always result in time well spent. All the best to you, young man. You're inspiring many.

You definitely have a natural engineering way of figuring things out. I must say......it is the best times to watch you. Thank you for giving us this part of your abilities. These videos of yours are one of only 3 things I look forward to every week. The other two are the ability to do for myself . Shopping and taking care of my own environment are the other two. The great memories of my time on our farm come blazing into my mind plus your imagination and problem solving skills are so soothing in my advanced years. Again......thank you very much.

I was visiting my friend at his new property this weekend and we were looking at a junk pile left by the previous owner. There were a number of metal chain link fence posts in the pile with the concrete still attached. We decided to chip off the concrete with a pick and maul to save the posts and this video reinforced the rightness in that decision. I think I was channeling you and your re-use whenever possible mindset and it's funny to me to see it in this video.

If you still want a step off of the cat walk you could, maybe, use that section you cut off the end of it. Seems wide enough so you wouldn't miss step when using it. You might possibly try designing a way to pull it out/tuck it under the stationary cat walk so it wouldn't be in the way when not in use. 🤔

Yippee! It all worked out!! That was very interesting; great video, as usual! I love how you talk to us as you go, explaining your thoughts and expectations; it’s like a shop class 😁👍👏! Not that I’ll ever use this info myself, but maybe I can advise someone else 😉! Never can tell hahaha! I’m so happy everything went so well for you, too. Being able to salvage the square tubes was fantastic, like money in the bank. So much of what was removed is reusable 👍👏! And the cut off catwalk will make that step you’re wanting 👏👏! Ready assembled; just need to shorten the height a bit 😁👍! An excellent day of work!!❤❤

That was a lot of work just to save the two posts especially since you will have a lot of work to do to be able to use them. Question: If you need to use your old squeeze chute to aid in delivery of a calf, since the normal exit out of the chute is not leading into a corral and is open to the driveway, do you back the cow out or do you have another plan? Seems like a cow's "reverse" is unpredictable!

I'm not sure this is appropriate . But I use a thick construction trash bag around metal posts that I'm going to put into concrete so when and if I need to pull it. You can knock off the concrete easily or if it sticks to the post at all. It has never interfered with its holding capacity that I know of. Just throwing that out there.
Professional twine job, lol. And then you do this top notch alley deconstruction- working smarter that’s for sure, FTR.

@6:00 Tyler, Just out of curiosity here. After you run the heifer into the chute and take care of the issues, what is next? You can't back her out of the chute. You can't release her into the open field. I am guessing you will have to back the trailer up to the head gate and load her in the trailer?

The twine (rope ?) you used could fail after a while !! Wouldn't bailing wire have been a better choice to secure those panels to the squeeze chute ? That's this city boy's guess......?
@jaclynalley8098 ай бұрын
I used twine on my "temporary" chute last Saturday. It's easy to cut loose with my pocketknife when I get through with it but strong enough to use "temporarily". With the wire I'd have to get the pliers to cut it loose.... that's why I use twine on my farm

I noticed that there was no rebar in the concrete pad. Are you planning to add something to the new pad to make it stiffer for the scales? Would it even make a difference to your weight readings?

Pardon the city boy question, Tyler, but how will you get the hypothetical cow out of the old chute if the front end is wide open and it could just run off anywhere. Can you get it to back down that alley?
