There is a HUGE easter egg that no one outside of Korea is apparently aware of! During the marble game the two girls are getting to know each other. The main girl asks the other girl what she would do with her winnings. She said she wanted to recreate a scene from a movie and drink a mojito. Then the main girl says she has no idea wtf she is talking about. The second girl then explains that "Brad Pitt" plays a 007 type character, goes to Jeju island (famous in Korea) and drinks a Mojito. BUT since this movie is in Korea they are referencing a movie of the super famous star Lee Byung Hun (Stormshadow from GI Joe). Which is INSANE as Lee Byung Hun is later revealed to be the fucking front man......................... They LITERALLY name dropped Lee Byung Hun before he was revealed to already be in the case of this show. That is a MASSIVE easter egg. But since virtually no one outside of Korea is aware of Lee Byung Hun is then.... yeah.. no one knows this. I watched a bunch of various reaction videos to his reveal and literally no one was like OMFG THAT'S Lee Byung Hun!!!!!!! Instead I heard things like "oh.. is that.. is that his brother?" IT'S LEE BYUNG HUN!!!!!!!!!!! LITERALLY the most famous actor IN THE ENTIRE SHOW and no one knows this... LMFAO

A few thoughts: THE RECURRING 10,000 Here's what I'll say about the recurrence of the 10,000 figure. I'm not sure how much significance can be read into it because each instance has a practical reason behind it. Think of a 10,000 won bill as equivalent to a $10 bill. It's a fairly practical amount. And in Korean currency, there are only 4 bills in circulation, 1,000; 5,000; 10,000; and 50,000. And 10,000 is the minimum that can be withdrawn from an ATM. When Gi-hun was asking to borrow 10,000 in the beginning, he needed it to buy a cheap gift and some tteokbokki (those spicy rice cakes) for him and his daughter. That's why he tried his hand at the crane game. He was trying get a gift and save enough for the food. Borrowing 50,000 is a big amount to ask for of anyone. It's one thing ask a buddy for $10. Asking him/her for $50 elevates it to another level and raises questions. That Sang-woo lent/gave Ali 10,000 is also routine. It's the amount a reasonably generous person would lend, just in case. And for all those occurrences of the 10,000 won amount, Koreans wouldn't blink an eye. To them, they'd subconsciously think "yeah, that's about right." BUTCHERING KOREAN NAMES Westerners should stop feeling apologetic about "name butchering" Korean names because it's not entirely their fault. Koreans have done themselves a disservice throughout the years. During the early waves of Korean immigration into Western countries, the Anglicization of Korean names were fairly accurate phonetically. The last name "Suh" was spelled "Suh," not "Seo." The last name "Jun" was spelled "Jun" or "Chun," not "Jeon." But somewhere along the line, in an effort to standardize the Anglicization, the government (I think) issued a conversion rubric. I personally think the person in charge was the nephew of someone important who wasn't very good at English. So now, for example, the "eh" sound was to be converted to "ae." The "oo" sound was to be converted to "u." And worst of all, the "uh" sound was to be converted to "eo." I'm hard-pressed to think of many words where "eo" is pronounced "uh." Only words like "surgeon" and sturgeon" come close. So in this series, Seh-byuk (2 syllables) was converted to Sae-byeok (often read with 3 syllables). Mee-nyuh (2 syllables) was converted to "Mi-nyeo" (sometimes read with 4 syllables). Gi-hoon was converted to Gi-hun. Duck-soo was converted to Deok-su. And so on. It's no wonder the names were butchered. Because people were pronouncing them the way they were spelled. And it didn't help that the Korean order of names (last name first, first name last) was presented that way. There should be a consistency with that. When said in Korean, use the Korean order. When said in English, use the Western order. So Gi-hoon Sung was called Seong Gi-hun. Seh-byuk Kong was called Kang Sae-byeok. Etc. NOTE: Famed Parasite director Bong Joon -ho's last name is Bong. His first name is Joon-ho... the same name as the police detective in Squid Game, Jun-ho. OLD MAN'S EXIT I agree that the old man was hoping NOT to be selected for the marble game, but not to get a free pass. I think he planned to be escorted away as the leftover and bow out of the games. The remaining players would have been told that he had been executed (like everyone thought was Mi-nyeo's fate). At least that was the Plan B. Remember, the only reason there was a leftover player was because the doctor had been killed. That wasn't planned. So whoever Il-nam was paired with, methinks he would lost on purpose and pretended to have been executed. BECAUSE... there's no way he was spry enough to survive the glass bridge challenge. Sure, he could've rushed to get a later number. But that was no guarantee. And he could not leapt the span of the glass plates. I think the marble game was going to be his last game no matter what.

Player 212 aka Han Mi-Nyeo’s actress got into showbiz after getting 3rd runner up in a beauty pageant, and “Mi-Nyeo” translates to “Beautiful Lady”, perhaps as an Easter egg reference. And in addition to the foreshadowing theory, Gihun betted on his mother’s life earlier on, and she died in the end. Also, the cop Junho threw one of the soldiers off into the sea at the beginning, and he ended up falling into the sea (hopefully surviving).

There is the hint of classic music - morning alarm. I believe that Only Koreans realize this point. The classic music has been used background music of famous scholarship quiz show. The students compete each other and the winner gets the scholarship money prize. Therefore Koreans automatically feel that rat race would begin from this music.

I went back and watched that scene showing all the different players playing that initial game with recruiter. In it, there's at least one player that chose red, so that suggests the red/blue choice doesn't lead to the guard/player choice.

They are probably planning for a Season 3 while at Season 2 hence building a solid backstory becomes important. It also give the very popular cast to come back. Very very important because people are in love with the cast. It will be multi-layered, not just based on one character. Expect to see a lot of il-nam backstory because he is after all, the mastermind.

7:00 In general, it is meaningful depending on the shape of the figure in the East, but I disagree with classifying it into classes. This is because the circle symbolizes the sky(=God), the square symbolizes the land and humans, and the triangle symbolizes the spiritual world. I think they took shapes from the shape of 'squid games' and used them(it was classified into class). In addition, the national flag of the Republic of Korea basically uses circles, squares, and triangles. (When drawing a flag, a triangle is used because square paper is folded diagonally or drawn diagonally to bring the position of the center circle.)

a lot of these are a stretch to say the very least... the fact that Gi-Hun bets on horses isnt a "foreshadowing" of the front man saying that the squid game is like that; he says that for the precise reason that it's something Gi-hun would relate to. If he had been someone who gambled on, I dunno, motorsport, then the frontman would have made that comparison instead.

I’m wondering if the front man intentionally joined the game to investigate and might actually be planning on how to take down the game organization.. just like how Gihun had lost so many good ppl around him bc of the game then later on decides to get revenge, it might have been the same for the front man (In Ho). Whilst planning on how to take down the game, he finds out that his younger brother came and actually tried to bring him to his side safely but since he refused, the front man had no choice but to shoot him to show his “loyalty” cuz mind u, there were so many people with the red suits watching and he probably didn’t want his long hard work to get ruined. But instead of shooting him on the head like he did with with the others he shot, he only shot his brother on the shoulder. Also the scene on the mirror where we can see that he felt guilty for shooting his brother, he probably knows that he survived but still felt the guilt from having to do what he did for the purpose of revenge. For me, I got suspicious of the old man in episode 2. When we got everyone's back story except for his. But they sneakily put him in a scene with the main character so you almost don't realize he didn't get any back story. The moment I put two together was when the front man was on the phone with the host and he said something along the lines of "I'm glad you enjoyed the games" after he "died".

ok so here's my thought, during game 5 the glass bridge what stops anyone from running along those center bars? No one ever says they can't do it the only thing ever said about it is some of the glass is normal and wont hold them but the other glass is tempered and will hold them. Also in the end so many people don't like that he doesn't get on the plane for his daughter but ever since episode 1 he shows us he's no Dominic Tretto, episode 1 he's steeling from his mother and episode 2 he swears on his mother that he wont do a thing but as soon as his arms are free he does that exact thing and gets called out for it. Then we find out he canceled the much needed health insurance to be a degenerate gambler. This dude says he's about family but at every corner proves he's not.

There is one more point, actually one of the front man or some vip in the series told that people are treated as horses in there to gamble their luck... from that point view though it seems cracking a strategy in the fifth game was impossible i believe there was one visible and clear strategy to win that game..the lights showcased in that game were similar to ponybackride i believe that is the name of that ride which we used to have in park and after four or five people moving around it is very clear that the tempered glass is arranged in accordance with the knights movement in chess..none of the breakdown videos i have seen so far mentioned this fact..correct me if iam wrong..

I was thinking what if the old man wasn't picked instead of the crazy chick when they went to go play Marbles? Then he would probably have to walk that glass bridge which was the next game. Then I thought about it some more and said they probably would have acted like they killed him to the rest of the players when they came back after playing marbles in reality they just let him stop playing. I don't think so. He was willing to die in the games, and needed Gi-han and Sang-woo's help to complete the Honeycomb and Tug-of-War. He definitely would have died in the Tug-of-War, since he was padlocked to the rope (in the behind the scenes you can clearly see that he does have locks on his wrists, like all the other players). The only reason he didn't die after the marble game was because he had become Gi-han's "gganbu", and so he wanted to see if his new found best friend would win the prize.

That theory I never liked because the only reason there was an odd number of players was because the doctor was killed off after getting caught cheating. If that didn't happen, the old man would have been chosen. There was no way to plan this out beforehand unless they decided to just kill off someone for no reason or they had some powerful insight that there happened to be an incident that allowed a player to be offed. Some of these theories don't hold water at all and are actually contradictory to the plot of the show.

Correct. You also get a clear view of them in the "making of" video for the show. Player 1 was legitimately in real danger of being killed throughout the games, didn't know what they were going to be beforehand (they were likely picked at random), and he never cheated. The only reason he exerted his authority after the marble game is because he had befriended 456, and wanted to see what happened to his new "gganbu".

There are two times in the series where we see Gi-hun's birthday as October 31: in his files in the squid archives on episode 5 and when he himself calls the card's number and is required to give his name and birthday (for example, in the last episode, when he was going to board the airplane). I dont think the father son theory is true. If it was the reveal loses most of its power by the father already being dead. It would have been revealed in season 1 before he died if it was true.

Achara makes a good point about if they could have teamed up and worked together. I think this show is making that point, similar to the movie Parasite. If the poor people would just work together and not try to climb over each other, they could all benefit. But you can see how the rich intentionally set the rules and pit the players against each other - because its more entertaining, hence they get their way. It's similar to how the rich in the real world are able to make more and more money by playing the people against each other. There are far more poor people and yet they cannot team up to fight against the machinations of the rich, hence the rich just keep on getting their way If all those players from the very beginning just sat down and worked together so many people could have survived or at the very least they could have easily used rule 3 to end the game when it became obvious that the games became a purely luck death blender. But it's the (false) thought of winning and becoming the super wealthy, that in the end the players have no desire to team und are just willing to cut each others throats - which once again plays right into the game runners.

Gi-Hun and Oh Il-Nam are related, that's for sure, because Gi-Hun's mother has the same surname as Il-nam. Her name is written in the bank card that Gi-Hun steals in the first episode, it's Oh Mal Soon. I don't think they would give her the same surname as Il-nam for nothing

In episode 3, when the guard scans Gi-hun, they show Gi-Huns full profile. His mother (living together) is listed as Kim ChunJa

The birthdays for Gi-Hun and Il-Nam’s son also don’t line up. During the marbles episode Il-Nam says his son’s birthday is on the 24th while Gi-Hun’s is the 31st. That’s a whole weeks difference and even though Il-Nam sounds like he wasn’t around much, I don’t think he’d forget his son’s birthday.

Agreed, and some of his theories have been disproven. In the tug of war for example, player 1 does indeed have locks securing him to the rope like everyone else. You can clearly see this in the behind the scenes videos.
