I am a 6'3 Blackbelt and my teammate is a 6'5 brownbelt we both are subscribed. We see a technique like this,go to the gym the next day and suddenly realize we are both trying to set up the same technique with a sinster smile. Then we do it to everyone else that night haha thanks for sharing 👍

I hate to inform you but I already invented this guard last year and gave it the name Purple Chocolate Epsilon Starfish III. I know you probably didn't mean to steal from me but be sure to use the techniques proper name next time.

I have been playing a similar game to the squid and never thought about using the lapel. I double grip the sleeve with both hands and shoot for omoplata if they posture and throw the hips in hard I go for a kneebar or kneebar style sweep. Interesting twist on it Keenan!

In my gym we used this as a sweep but we enter from the de la riva with the ankle and cross lapel (same side DLR hook). Its a easy entry. Never tought to play it as a guard (per se).

By "No-Gi" I hope you're referring to the outfit, in which case no it doesn't but using your legs to someone's chest to control posture can be effective, but kicking them in the jaw is more-so.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. What if he simply brings his foot back inside your arm or even stands on the forearm on the lapel-gripping hand ?

Hi Mr. Cornelius can I ask you a question I cant seem to find a good answer to this. Im right handed and in jiu jitsu i like to pass to the left and play half gaurd on my right side. Do you think if i learned to play lefty (I guess is the term) and would pass to the right and play half gaurd on my left side would be an advantage because its my opponents weaker side. I noticed Bernando Faria plays this way but i dont know if hes left handed or just choose to develope his weaker side because he thought it would give him an advantage or is this just a waste of time because my left side will always be weaker than the right?

SoulRollerFIN he cant put you on 50/50, it we be a 50/0 (leg drag style)
@SoulRollerFIN6 жыл бұрын
Sure can. Just steps the right leg through, across opponent's leg and close the triangle.
lh5.googleusercontent.com/proxy/BRNkXWEqZf-n4HWcHK2xAS68QC5YGuQpBhZjCVR2Rnq2QYZiMJADmjbyhcXA00fAqPFZzLzEuGaZnoZOOfmpHxMTMR9pOykadxuJChqD8ck4afm1LVu3a9ueKTeK_fTvKaAfIC_hRaE=w200-h300-nc Thats not. You cant drag the keenan leg (lapel grip)
@SoulRollerFIN6 жыл бұрын
Ok fine if you wanna be super specific, it's a leg lock position. So 50/25. We call any position where you are "scissoring" 50/50, because it basically is just that. 50/50 chance for both players to do stuff. A position that is really boring if neither guy wants to get on top.

If they sit for it, you're already attached to them with the lapel and can come up fairly easily (I imagine, I haven't tried it in the gym)
@SoulRollerFIN6 жыл бұрын
You can though. Can get kneebarred, footlocked and even toe... held? Kneebar is the most likely in this position. The position is nothing new, the name squid guard is new. Good name. Suits the position.

@Slashoom6 жыл бұрын
they can't get the angle to sit back for a straight ankle lock with the lapel grip. The knee bar opens them up to a back take. 3/4 are irrelevant in sport JJ, which is what this is intended for.
