As a Zimbabwean life long rugby fan, to just find out Zimbabwe have gone unbeaten all year is a massive Triumph, it’s been a long road back from oblivion since the 1980s . Indigenisation ,affirmative action DEI, Transformation and a Ruling Party that cares little for The Sport or The Economy have taken their Toll , but hopefully we Have now turned a corner and better days will I hope return to the country that has a series win (1949) over The All Blacks. A sober take on Wales, i agree they are potential giant. Thanks gents for singing the Springboks praises. We as south africans need to realize this is our golden age and it won't be too long until other teams will be winning "historical victories" against us. The kiwis will know. The bigger you get the harder you fall. But what a privilege to be here now for the Bokke!

@randomlyfactual194323 сағат бұрын
I hate how patronising it sounds when we say how hard the Welsh lads defended. But given the utter dominance of the Bok scrum - to the point of being muscled off your own ball even - South Africa was always going to have a huge amount of ball. With those being the rules for the day, the Welsh defenders gave it everything they could. Keeping the score below fifty against a team who probably had 66% of possession and made a thousand meters for the day requires an almost inhuman effort. If Wales can sort out their scrum - and I'm sure they'll be able to - then this match won't have another 30+ points difference. Not even a 20 points difference I would think. Also, as an aside, I think it's time we start using Malherbe on the bench and rotate him and Koch so that they can spare their bodies. Thomas Du Toit and Wilco Louw have got this.
@thenomad4723 сағат бұрын
Honestly, I feel Wales made a bloody good account of themselves against the Bokke. Like, they most definitely have quite a lot of potential there, they just need to figure out how to make that talent work and they just need some time to do that. They'll get there in 2~4 years at most imo

That was the strangest thing watching the game - I really didn't think that Wales played badly and I thought that their defence was quite organised. But the sheer number of attacks and runs at the Welsh line had to end in it being breached at some stage.
@primachpepe859714 сағат бұрын
saffa in sunny wales. I think this was the best game Wales played this cycle. Warrenball does work, because its based not on talent but workrate (as i understand it). These boys will grow, and if they get the conditioning and experience, Warrenball is fantastic in that it will allow for a moment of brilliance or for talent to shine, but its built off the base of tireless workrate and ultimately discipline. Captain Lake & both flankers, for me, had a fantastic game - there is no shame in losing to the top team in the world, but not only that, to face them as well as they did does require applause. from the South african side, Scrum dominance was evident, i do appreciate that the ref didnt blow immediately against Wales (despite them going backwards, they got the ball out). It is scary to think that south africa can field 2 world class forward packs + 1-2 more top level packs with the sheer number of forwards we have and can rotate in and out. In this test we saw what is arguably our 3rd string in terms of front rows and they put in work. Backline, fassie had a great game, Same with Arendse. Kolbe a bit quiet, but a magician doesnt reveal all his cards at once. Bit scrappy from us, but a win overall with great moments, such as Sous's line for the try, Etzebeth immediaetly passing to Arendse knowing the speed demon will outpace him.

Digging all the Autumn series content guys, thanks! Just a thought on the Springboks "biggest pack" - are we talking weight, height? Because on the team sheets I've noticed that the Springoks arn't always the heaviest or tallest (sometimes yes, but often no). I'd say they are the hardest &/or strongest (aka 'most physical'). I recall a game we used to play at practice was 'kopstamp' (Literal translation = headbutt) - a version of Red Rover that was just an excuse to smash into someone. I didn't like how Gatland was under the cosh by the media during this year end tour. However, Wales could do better with a new coach, getting someone in like Johan Van Graan or Franco Smith, get Aled Walters in to sort out conditioning. They'll be a serious threat in a year or two.

Wales, Australia, Japan. All young. The French are going to hit peak levels in 2027. This is a unique cycle for SA because it contains both continuity and change. @@brianodriscoll2725I get so much hate for saying this, but the French are what we who follow cricket call a flat track bully. On their own soil, in their own stadiums, in front of their own fans, they are incredible. As soon as they set a foot outside of the motherland, it's like they get a 50% debuff. And they are not doing anything to address that. If you are a betting man, put money on France falling at the QF hurdle again in 2027 for a fourth time in a row.

Fun fact: This is the first year that we've been afforded the luxury of continuity after a world cup, since the game turned professional. 1995: Kitch Christie wins the world cup, but has to step down due to ailing health. 1999: Nick Mallet has a dominant team, wins a bronze medal at the world cup, is let go in 2000 due to a public spat with SARU. 2003: Rudolph Streauli fired after a dismal year and equally dismal world cup campaign. 2007: World Cup winner Jake White's contract allowed to run out for transformation reasons. 2011: Pieter De Villiers' contract not renewed after a poor 2010 and subpar showing the the world cup 2015: Heyneke Meyer wins bronze medal at world cup, but is let go, presumably due to the loss against Japan 2019: Rassie wins world cup and he is promoted to director of rugby with his partner in crime Jacques Nienaber appointed as head coach, signifying the first time that South Africa will have any kind of continuity coming out of a world cup until.... COVID. South Africa essentially loses an entire year's worth of test matches and when they finally play together in 2021, it's like coaching a new team.

The dreadful situation you guys are in are due to long term mistakes made in the past. Fixing this will not be easy and it will not be fun. You guys are going to have to stay loyal, while watching this crop slowly gain experience and climb the ladder. I do want to give you somewhat of a silver lining, though. When you get the chance today, look up the squads (Wikipedia should be a great help here) of the following Springbok teams: - The team that lost to Japan in Rugby World Cup 2015 - The team that suffered our heaviest home defeat, 57-15 to New Zealand, in 2016 - The team that suffered our first ever loss to Italy in 2016 - The team that suffered our biggest defeat ever, 57-0 to New Zealand in 2017, at Eden Park Now compare each of those teams to the ones that won both the 2019 and 2023 world cups. Or the team that beat the Lions in 2021. Or the one that amassed four successive wins against the All Blacks. It might seem almost blasphemous now, but guys like Kitshoff, Malherbe, Etzebeth, Mostert, De Jager, Kolisi, Vermeulen, De Allende, De Klerk, Kriel, Le Roux, most of them suffered all those humiliating defeats! And guess what they went on and did. Yes, you guys are in the doldrums right now, but keep at it. One day the sun will shine again and a new day will dawn.
