Hello Squidmar, interesting video, some background on the Thunderhawk, it was part as you know of the full chapter project GW did for Games day, (originally conceived by John Stallard) elements of the whole of GW contributed. The Factory assisted by designing the Thunderhawk and Tim was the primary sculptor. We made three originally but they were not intended for general release. However Tom Kirby the then CEO/ General Manager asked us to make it a unique product, wooden box, burnt/ embossed wording etc. The Ownership document has a version of my signature as a certificate of authenticity, the model was designed to be built from the inside out, you may have noticed the holes in the internal frames, these have the brass rods passed through to give strength, then the side panels are added and so on. There were at approximately 500 made but I do not know the exact amount as I moved on after founding Forgeworld. The Aquila were existing GW badges re-purposed, both for the model and box. The internal details were based on Jaguar and F15 details

@@comethiburs2326 Not to mention the quality control and engineering in general was non existent. He even pointed both out with the statement "I've never seen this with metal minis before" and when they had to add their own supports. Casting errors happen, sure. But thats on the maker, not the consumer, and they have reject bins for a reason. These parts were literally out of spec. And the fact that it broke because it needed additional support was evidence the manufacturer either had no idea what they were doing or didn't care. This is definitely a case of "Oh its expensive in a fancy box, it MUST be good". The box was the only thing here I would want. This was trash in a fancy wrapping, and I hope this dude gets enough money off this video to cover the labor cost for three guys for four days.

Maybe you can use something to stuff the inside of the model, some kind of skeleton, so the weight of the structure is supported by the material inside the model instead of the other metal pieces. @@Slaave There might be problems with inconsistent alloy composition causing areas with higher and lower melting points, running the risk of literally melting a hole in your model, and the level of precision you'd need to employ with a soldering iron for that kind of work would require someone as skilled as my father was at his peak as an electrical engineer back in the 70's, 80's and 90's. @@funoff3207 really? So like any other painted metal that exists , you're saying you can't tell those things are metal... i.e. fire hydrants, Older Vehicles 🚗 🚚🛻 🏍, weapons, etc. Also as I said, im sure the majority will be left the stock aluminum alloy color that it is while the seams are filled with miliput and painted to resemble weld marks and some other details like rust and normal markings that would be painted on to any craft. Get over it bud , your heart will be broken and or you will eat your words when the details are done.

Here's a tip: Use some solder and a soldering iron. The composition of the solder should be relatively close to the composition of the actual model so you can effectively weld it together. Make sure you have good temperature control though otherwise the model could melt.

Further to the solder points people have made, you could've also made some small circular iron bars inside 0.5mm connecting opposite ends of the hull internals to really keep it together and glued/resin but even solder.. ✌️

Next time if you drill through something, use underneath something like a piece of wood/something softer than the metal but sturdy enough to hold the part. Thus you reduce the tension on the drill bit, not to mention the parts won't fall apart while you do the drilling.

I can't believe they can get away with selling something like this. Parts that are warped and need sanding. A model too heavy to support itself and needing to be drilled and the end product just looks rough.

I'm so old I remember considering buying this when it was released, but it was ridiculous money even then. Considering models such as the Manta exist, I'm uncertain why GW never released a plastic version. When the Thunderfire cannons were first released there were some awful miscasts shipped (ask me how I know). Some things change, other things just fail differently. Excellent work getting it done! A true demonstration of fortitude and determination from you all.

When it comes to pinning, I recommend 1mm pianowire! Will not brake and as it's only 1mm, you can easily use it on the slimmer parts. You just need to be careful with drilling metal as the 1mm drills usually snap easily. You can get pianowire in various thickness. I usually use 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 depending on what I'm pinning. Hope this helps your future builds!
