Joe, Saw your announcement last night of the deal Musician’s Friend is now offering on the Strat which is a steal. I pulled the trigger based upon your “AverageJoe” unbiased reviews of these guitars. I also bought the vintage edition Tele in blond based upon your previous review. The wife said “ If you buy another guitar I’m out’ta here!” I’m gon’na miss her……😢

Helpful review! I have the green, gold telecaster, weighing 7.5 pounds. Not sure if i just got lucky. Put another 100 into it, tex mex pickups and replaced tuners. Nice guitar now, plays great!

What tuners did you go with?

@thebluesrockers The gotoh vintage. They look just like the originals but have a much better feel. The screw holes didn't line up, so I had to fill the old holes and drill new ones. There are probably some replacement tuners that are a direct fit, but not sure.

@@paulgordo7505 Well for future reference, Wilkinson, tuners are to Gotah, what Squiers are to Fender. They also make locking 10mm tuners. They're hailed by many as being awesome tuners too. They have a good reputation for being great and inexpensive.

In my experience the brown one is very light and the blondes are super heavy. I’ve had several come through my shop.

I found the neck pickup a bit dull and in need of a tweak, so I replaced it. The bridge pickup is okay!

Hi, I have recently bought a 40th Anniversary Telecaster. My opinion is that it is a light guitar, contrary to your comments. So, I just got up and weighed it on digital scales. The results are it weighs exactly 3.0 kgs (thats 6.6 lbs in your money). Conclusion, clearly they are using a wide variety of woods and you just don't know what you are getting.

Hey Joe, I've been watching these for a while and I agree with most of your preferences here. That Tele is sharp and with the binding it is a head turner! ! I also prefer to add my own reliced look. I don't really think the gold looks good - maybe too much - I don't know.

Nice review of the features and differences. I have the Vintage 40th Tele in the same finish. It’s crazy, I don’t think I’ve ever bonded with a guitar so quickly. Love that thing. Really great guitar.

I absolutely hate the large Headstock's on Fender's too. I hate block inlays on a Strat. I don't like a poly feeling neck. I'm not into the Matt finish, But I would have chose it over the alternative. That's a very nice looking Strat. A little to much black, but over all a nice looking guitar. That Tele looks totally amazing. And I loved the tone on that. Great review. Peace..

The weight of these guitars is a thing , some are light , some heavy , you have gotten 2 heavy ones , my strat ( vintage edition sonic blue) is a light one , for the money with these guitars on sale everywhere at the moment they are a smoking deal . I am happy to have a strat in the house again , together with the tele they form a good combi .

They did have a nice green in the Tele gold edition, maybe they have sold out since then. I did have one in green ordered0 for black Friday sale last year, but got a notification they sold more than they had ad they deleted the charge to my card, but have seen them at other sellers since then.

I agree with you I own a gold edition Telecaster and am thinking of trading for a Vintage Edition. Keep up the good work. I took you up on a tuner you talked about a week ago, got it off Amazon for like 4 bucks it works great. Thanks.

9.6lbs? That's crazy! Are you sure your scale is accurate? That's about the highest I've heard for these. My VE Strat is just over 8lbs but it feels pretty well balanced. Still thinking about getting the same Tele you got.
