This week's video is a great little nymph pattern that catches fish. I even take it out on the stream and prove it at the beginning of the video. It's simple and it's buggy. Just make sure you keep it thin. The main goal with all of your tying is to keep it thin, natural looking, and proportional. If you watch my videos regularly you probably notice I like things flashy and I like hot spots, this pattern has both which boost my confidence. Any pattern that you have confidence in is going to catch you fish if you get it in front of the fish correctly.
This is a great pattern which is very much a generic style pattern, meaning it can be tied in multiple colors to match multiple hatches. So use what you have and tie this in colors you think will work in your area. Please go to www.holsingers... for any of the materials needed to tie this fly and others. Thanks for watching and supporting the shop and KZbin channel.
-Shawn

Love this format. Fish the fly and catch a few then show us how to tie it!

Thanks a lot. It’s a lot of work to add that to the video all the time. I just knew that conditions were perfect and that I could pick up a few fish quickly. The fish cooperated that day and didn’t wait till I turned the camera off to hop on my line.

Great little nymph bro! Fox squirrel is one of my favorite go to materials when I want buggy and absolutely in a split thread - just a great combination. Thanks for sharing!

Today I was thinking it would be nice to see that fish you have on in the intro and you start out in the stream 😊 Nice fly I’m sure will work here also 👍

Great I'm glad you like it. The fish in the opening scene is from my Alaska trip a couple of years ago with a nice silver salmon.

I have always liked and fished that Dave Whitlock Red fox squirrel nymph, but yours tied on a jig with the bead looks better. I’m tying some up and can’t wait to try them. And as usual such expert advice. I love you on the stream and I really liked at the end when you were saying 14 on the bottom and the 16 on top, those tidbits are awesome.

Thanks Bob!!! Glad you like this video and learned a few tips from it. I actually used some of this clips in a euro nymph seminar I gave last week in Niagara Falls.

I like that, kept it simple but deadly. The brownies will go for that next month when they start their runs up river. Come to think that it’s similar to a fly I use for our winter run steelheads in July/August. Cheers mate. Harera

Thanks and cheers to you!! Where are you from? I use simple patterns like this for our Great Lakes steelhead runs on Erie.

@@HolsingersFlyShopHi, I fish and hunt in the South Pacific a place that Zane Grey the writer called The Anglers Eldorado! New Zealand. Our brown trout came from Scotland, our rainbows came from California and our salmon came from Alaska. Our country is made up of 700 odd islands but no snakes or dangerous animals. All our game that we hunt is introduced. OK? Cheers mate. Harera

Thanks a lot. It adds a considerable amount of time to my video production but it also adds a nice touch. This was a fly that’s simple to tie and I hammer out quickly so I saved time on my prep work for the video and went fishing instead. I usually spend the morning practicing a fly for my videos. I tie at least a dozen so I can shoot it in one take without having to edit much. I tie patterns like this all the time. No practice needed. Just needed a few to fish with.

@@HolsingersFlyShop Shawn I know it really hard filming the fishing and tying and editing them to make one video, but it was really amazing and appreciated because it shows the flies in action and the reality of it all together, as for me and most others that watch you videos know the flies you tie are tried and true, but for the beginner it helps out a lot, and as for me yes its a awesome touch to watch, thanks again for what you’ve done and are doing, God Bless

Excellent pattern Shawn. The collar you used is the same one me and a friend use on what we call a squirrel torch. Basically squirrel and cdc for the collar and we tie it mostly with a chartreuse tag and I tell you what it destroys fish
