Very nice and cool place. I've actually applied for a Japanese scholarship to study in Nagasaki University. This video has inspired my desire to be there. I pray that I get this scholarship. God bless you for the video 📷

Hi, I'm always enjoying your channel. I leave the comment for the first time, because surprisingly it's about Nagasaki where I'm from!! Thanks so much for visiting there and introducing how beautiful and it has a different taste from other places in Japan.
Nagasaki prefecture is where my family came from. Goto islands and Kujyu kushima, small islands near Sassebo city, they are very beautiful. If you get to see these islands from the hill and see the sunset, they are spectacular. I am glad that you enjoyed the nature and all these churches!

You are learning about Japan at a very fast pace. I think you already know more about Japan than me. The Goto Islands are famous for camellia trees and camellia oil.

Hidden Christians in the Nagasaki area had a really rare culture and different lifestyle from other people who lived in Japan at that era. I was also very impressed when I visited Kamigoto island. And it made me think deeply about what religion should be for us and what we can do for the future.

Hi Skye, I occasionally see your videos and enjoy them, but I haven’t been compelled to comment on them till now. I really felt your deep connection with those martyrs and Christians in Nagasaki who endured the unimaginable pain and suffering pressed upon them. Religions could be dividers among peoples at the superficial level. However, I believe that once you peel off the protocols, conventions and formalities, they are universal and can serve as a strong bond between the peoples. I am so glad that you were personally able to get in touch with the Christian culture past and present in Japan and are able to share it with us. Just for a piece of info if you want to visit churches in Tokyo, there is St. Mary’s Cathedral close to Mejiro station. The building is very modern and is quite uniquely architected. I went to kindergarten there, although the current church building was built after I graduated. Thank you for the very touching video, Shin from Colorado
I've never been to Nagasaki. This video is so helpful for my trip to Nagasaki in the future. And I thought you suited well the scenery of Nagasaki. It might be because, as you say, some of the churches looked similar to ones in England. And long hair suited you too. You and the sceneries were so stunning👍

Thank you for always introducing Japan. I had never been to Nagasaki, but I was surprised to learn that the whiteness of the churches in Nagasaki is unique to Japan. Nagasaki has long been a trading town. At the end of the Edo period, it was also a base for procuring new guns for anti-Edo shogunate forces. From that point of view, Nagasaki can be said to be the city that became the base of the new era (Meiji era). Nagasaki is also a tragic city where an atomic bomb was dropped during World War II. However, it has been revived and is once again an attractive city. If you have the chance, I would love to visit.
"simply because they are christian, they were executed..." , not really so. At that time Christian missionaries were part of the arm of the European imperialism, in particular Spain and Portugal, and the then-government of Japan was well aware of it. It was not so much a matter of faith as it is told now to tourists as if were it a pure story of martyrdom. The real story would not be so helpful for promoting tourism and contributing to the fame of the people there. So it is rarely mentioned in public. If religion and the social authority and rules were well separated as they are now, there would have been little problem. Actually merchants deeply associated with the missionary exported Japanese peasants and orphans as slaves to overseas where they ran their colonies. Note also that not just Christianism but also some schools of Buddhism were banned in the middle age Japan. For they ignored the social authority and rules of the then government, and tried to establish their own religious ecosystems, separated from the government.
I always thought Japan has temples and shrines until watching several videos about Nagasaki, it has churches around the place, along with Christian culture.
