I saw my first blackbird about 5 months ago, in 2023 I was stopped in my tracks as I admired how beautiful that bird still is. It eclipsed my soul by how gigantic and gorgeous she was. Imagine seeing this thing when it was brand new. I wouldn’t have been able to keep it a secret. Then when they would tell me how fast it went in the 50’s? Rediculous

7:30 Technically, most SAMs run out of fuel when intercepting aircraft. I think it would be more accurate to say missiles would run out of kinetic energy, or that most missiles don't have enough fuel.

Great video. Does rather serve to underline what a colossal waste of time, money and life the Vietnam war was and also ti emphasise the limitations of even the best technology. If you're try to force an outcome on an entire people against their will, even the best technology can't make the difference. The SR-71 was an amazing machine, but it's depressing to think it was pressed into service for this massive misadventure in south east Asia.

A-12 in the thumbnail? Note also that the A-12 was a single-seater- one guy flying a complex airplane that demanded constant attention, managing not only navigation tasks but radios and cameras, all in hostile airspace with missiles and fighters doing their best to kill you. Makes you wonder how they got the flight suit on over those stones.

Yes that's the A-12 in the thumbnail, and agreed, the development into the SR-71 sensibly included two operators for all the tasks at hand.

Highly doubtful. The very concept is dated and totally irrelevant. The only reason why rumours circulate is because the idea has a certain Hollywood appeal. Whether it's drones, satellites or other technology, there are far, far more effective ways to get the SR-71's job done and do it orders of magnitude better. A big, super-fast jet is a dated, old school, pre-digital solution to the problem. It's not happening, no matter how much people want to believe it is. A "new" SR-71 is a non starter. It's totally useless.
