It does not make much sense to make a small stealth bomber because VHF band radar (the type used in the S-400, S-500, and Chinese Type 346B radars) can see small stealth aircraft like the F-22 and ranges of about 150 nautical miles. To combat this, the airframe has to be much larger than an F-22 or F-35, and that is where the B21 comes it. The B-21 is much less visible to VHF Band radar and could get much closer before being detected, making an intercept difficult. Also, while these radars do not have the resolution to lock on with a more conventional Surface to air missile, the resolution of the VHF band radars is sufficient to get a tactical nuclear missile close enough to destroy or incapacitate an F-35 or F-22. Many commentators live in a world where they think that the only thing that these stealth aircraft have to deal with is other aircraft and the only thing they typically deal with are aircraft of third tier powers. A war with China or Russia will likely be a war that sees the use of tactical nuclear weapons, and the VHF radars have good enough resolution to get a 10 kiloton warhead close enough to down or incapacitate an F-22 of F-35. People are stupid to think that China or Russia would not use this kind of weapon. If we attack China or Russia, they will certainly do so. And just to be clear, no US fighter has shot down a Soviet, Russian, or Chines air force aircraft since 1970. These expensive aircraft are only ever used against low tier combatants.
@Wyomingchief6 ай бұрын
@shenmisheshou7002 you just spent a whole lot of time and a whole lot of typing just to say something that's absolutely ridiculous. First of all the Chinese will not use tactical nukes or nukes of any kind on a first strike basis. This has been quite consistent and quite clear, and in order to use a nuke against a stealth they would have to do it over their own country highly unlikely😂 Second of all Russia's radar capabilities are an absolute joke at this point in time and probably for the next decade or two. When ukrainians are sending drones in, nonstealthy drones at that, with the Russians sing nothing then what makes you think they can possibly even come close to intercepting anything in our inventory other than a 4th gen? Also you really have no clue on how stealth works, you don't get stealthier by getting larger like the B21.😂 There is a reason that the mature bomber platform the B21 has gotten smaller.

Never even heard about the FB-22 before. Thanks for this vid, very informative. It makes sense they dumped the idea in the early/mid 2000's, with the focus on the Middle East. It's too bad, had they not, we might not have seen F-22 production shut down.
@ronmaximilian69536 ай бұрын
The FB-22 would have used to the avionics of the f-35, had superior range, Superior payload, and also been a better fighter. That was the first problem. The second problem was that in the early 2000s, we were completely focused on the global war on terror where something like the F-16 XL would have made more sense. 15 years later, the FB-22 would have been useful, but it has been supplanted by the next generation air dominance fighter
@blackhornetfАй бұрын
With modern technology, it's cheaper to just invest in extra long-range air to ground attack stealth missles that turn onto glide bombs near their ground targets so there is no IR ( its not like this tech doesn't already exist) With modern tech, you dont have to actually fly into and invade another countries air defences to bomb ground targets these days ( when you can just send in a heap of extra long-range stealth missles/ bombs 💣 ) Stealth is a 3 tier system : - Shapes. - Radar absorbent coating. - Electronic Radar Jaming from within the missle or aircraft itself . These, of course, wouldn't be dropped on low value targets in sand land it would be too expensive. Rule number 1 in military warfare = Never reveal your full hand because your opponents can then anticipate your moves and restrictions based on what you have told them about the capabilities and range of your hi tech weaponry.

The problem with a stealth bomber the size of a stealth fighter is that it can be seen by S band radar at great ranges, just as the F-22 and F-35 can be. These radars cannot lock on, but they can vector interceptors to the oncoming stealth aircraft. The S band radar can't see larger bombers like the B1 and the new B2. The wavelength of the S Band is good on smaller objects, but does not work well against the large stealth bombers.
@sambojinbojin-sam65506 ай бұрын
I don't think you know how radar works.
@shenmisheshou70026 ай бұрын
I do know how radar works. I was an F4J Radio Intercept officer in the Marines and my collateral duty was Avionics Maintenance Chief. But none of that matters to you. If you look around the internet, you will find a great deal of technical papers on VHF radar and its ability to detect small stealth aircraft at great range. It is the wavelength that allows it to detect smaller aircraft. The antennas are too big to be mounted on airplanes so an enemy fighter would have difficult detecting and locking a stealth fighter BVR, but the VHF radar could see it from a great distance and vector an intercept. These radars take very large antenna arrays, and you can see these on the AGEIS destroyers and the Chinese 054 using the type 346B. But I am sure that you won't bother taking the time to do some reading about it and that is OK with me. Enjoy your day.

Sorry mate. I read a lot of comments about/ from people that don't. My apologies. Thanks for the greater explanation 👍 Full respect to you, Sir. Thankyou. (I did a tiny bit of material integration in composites for the new'ish thingos at one point, so yeah. My bad. Old timey blokes talking about "stuff" I guess...) I'm a solid 10-20yrs out of knowing how radars work myself, so my apologies. It boggles the mind these days.
@shenmisheshou70026 ай бұрын
@@sambojinbojin-sam6550 Sorry for being snippy. There is a lot of material there and even Chinese papers on topics like range and velocity gate jamming, and the Chinese have managed to steal a lot of information about the F-35 itself so I have some confidence that they have also stolen AGEIS data, but that being said, VHF Radars are not technically complicated because they typically only do detection with bearing, altitude and speed, and this info is passed to the AN/SPG-62 fire-control radar, which does the terminal guidance. The AGEIS AN/SPY-1 itself does not actually lock the target and does not have the necessary resolution to do so, but at a distance, you just need to know they are coming and as it turns out, if you make the antenna array big enough, it can see a stealth fighter size target at great distances, however, it cannot see larger aircraft like the B2 or B21 due to the wavelength. I have read several published Chinese papers from universities and I would say that their level of sophistication at the college level is on par with US college level, meaning that once they graduate, the have a ready supply of engineers to go to work for their own defense contractors, and frankly, the Chinese produce more advanced Science and Engineering degrees than the US does (they passed us in 2019). Overall, I have the sense that many in the US and the west cannot fully grasp the rate of acceleration that is occurring in the Chinese defense industry. China has their issues, but having done business in China 20 years ago, and as an 8 year Marine vet, I would say that underestimating your enemy is a rookie mistake. If the Chinese say the Type 346B can see a stealth fighter at great range, knowing it is technically possible, I have little reason to be skeptical.

@@shenmisheshou7002 all I can say, is the current and future air power of the US, has taken that into account. Mission planning and outcomes, for all factors and future planning, be they Air, Army, Naval, Marines or even Reserves, are taken into account.
