But how, If J = S and K=R then JK AND SR flip-flops will act as same. And we know that this is not true.

@@10_yogeshchandrapandey90 If you see without solving, then SR FF gives same result as JK FF except the 11 case, but SR FF does not care about 11 case as it is invalid.

Yes, I am saying the same thing. Since, in case of SR FF the output is prohibited when S=R=1 but in that case, we will get result as toggle. It should be not like that.....

@@shirinnurlyyeva508 i guess u have made mistake while grouping. could u be more specify about how u solved? yeas we have 3 inputs Qn , S , R.. hence while writing the k map, u have Qn on left and S & R on top.. correct? or u mistook the characteristic table itself? which is the 2nd step?

Quick Tip for invalid output for SR treat it as Don't Care for excitation table that is added on the characteristic table. This helped me, hope it helps you

For the confusing part in SR FF char. table when S=R=1, take Qn+1=don't care and put T or J,K values as don't care correspondingly, and solve for expression of J,K,T. That is the solution,what I found from all the comments and the k map.

1)boolean expression :- J=S; K=R; In the combination of characteristic tab of SR with excitation tab of JK, when S=1, R=1, i.e invalid. therefore both J and K will be dont cares(X). This will give the above boolean expressions upon solving. 2) T=Qn'S+QnR.

T=QR+Q'S for T to SR FF, Since in earlier case j-=s & k=r ,so we can replace j & k with s& r from the original ckt of T-FF. REFER lecture no. 136 i.e. intro to t-ff for the ckt.

The answer is J=S and K=R is correct as the not used condition in SR ff is literally not used which means even if we get a different result with jk ff like toggle condition, we just don't use it because we assume it to be a SR ff.

How can a SR Flip Flop be made to function like a T Flip Flop? Give the output waveform when the clock input is 1 kHz. Assume Q = 0 initially

If we applied K-map, we would see that J = SR', and and K=S'R. I did not understand why most of us not consider compliment parts for that example or I am basically making something wrong. Could you share your ideas?

We cannot fill the row for S = R = 1 in the excitation table for JK and T because it is an undefined condition! Also if we fill the row considering it to be a don't care condition then the resultant logic for JK to SR (J = S, K = R) will be JK itself because it will work for 11 input (J = 1, K = 1 => Race around/Toggle) which an SR does not!; and the resultant logic for T to SR (T = Q'S + QR) will also be JK because it will also work for 11 input (T = Q' + Q = 1 => Toggle) which an SR does not!

The first practice problem has a very interesting and confusing problem...what should one do with the case where Q_n = 0 and Q_(n+1) = (not used), and Q_n = 1 and Q_(n+1) = (not used)? Suppose your equations were J = S and K = R and you treated the invalid case as a Don't Care. Then in the case where S = 1 and R = 1, J and K will be 1, and the output Q will be the race condition or toggle, since the flip flop being used is JK. However, if you use the equations J = S*/R and K = /S*R, then when S = R = 1, J and K will be zero. Then, the output of the flip flop will be equal the previous state (memory). In other words...regardless of your logic equations for S and R, there is no way to have an invalid case. Or is there?

By the way...I'm struggling to understand how it would make sense to even consider representing an SR flip flop using a JK flip flop. Wasn't the purpose of the JK flip flop to make use of the invalid case of the SR flip flop? Wouldn't it be...counter-intuitive and unnecessary to go the other way?

As for the SR FF represented using a T FF, my equation was T = /Q*S*/R + Q*/S*R. I am assuming that the invalid cases should never be allowed to happen, and this SOP guarantees it.

If you allow for the invalid cases, the equation would be T = /Q*S or Q*R, but this would result in a toggle, which isn't exactly how an SR flip flop operates
