Thanks!! Got new brakes that was not connected and imagined i had to either get tools and bleed kit or try to find a workshop that could do it. But that seems really easy now that you have showed it!

Thanks, the only video I found which shows the strange red fitting the brake came with. All the others show fitting the barb to the hose.

Thanks, very helpful. Just bought DB8. Is it the same procedure with mineral oil beakes?
@Chambers36TheEnter7 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks and yes it should be the same procedure. The only difference should be the mineral oil brakes have mineral oil specific seals.

I have followed this tutorial to install new G2 brakes but it feels like the lever is stuck and the pistons won’t move. Is there any easy fix? I have tried to make sure the olive aligns with the valve inside the lever housing.

Can you disconnect the hose from the lever and then reconnect without a brake bleed?
@Chambers36TheEnter Жыл бұрын
Sometimes you can get away with it but not all ways. Often there will be air trapped but it can be "burped" out by taking the screws out of the top cap then flicking the lever so the bubbles end up exiting via the levers reservoir.
@jrush7943 Жыл бұрын
Is there away you can shorten the hose and still use the fittings.
@Chambers36TheEnter Жыл бұрын
Only if the hose with the fittings is brand new. Once the hose has been slotted into the lever and tightened then an olive is crushed into shape which is not reuse able. The olive with the stealthamajig is the red cylindrical metal bit that screws onto the insert, you can badly see it around 01:57. The insert which is at 01:27 which is the silver part already installed inside the hose is reuseable. You can unscrew it from the hose, cut the hose and then screw it back into the shortened hose.
@solero7378 Жыл бұрын
No. The compression fitting installed in new hoses doesn't have the splines for a torx bit....no way to remove it. Have to buy a stealthamajig ....I just bought a new SRAM groupset. Hoses are way too long. But there was absolutely no mention of needing this. So I'm still waiting to install... waiting for parts.
@ericwilliams411828 күн бұрын
@@solero7378 Thanks for mentioning this - I am installing new red levers--- but the current silver part of the "stealth a ma jig do not have that torx head. So I am cutting the hose and throwing away that part and having to install a new torx/silver part of the stealth a ma jig.

I agree. A lot of the issue is lack of mic and then the wooden work bench creates a lot of reverb.

How would I remove the stealth a majig if it dosnt have a torx head? Do I use the little silver cap? I want to shorten the hose but noticed there isn’t a torx screw to remove it?
@Chambers36TheEnter Жыл бұрын
That is strange as the proper sram inserts do have a torx head, could be that someone fitted something different. You can pull them out, it will damage the hose but if you're shorting the hose that won't matter. Also the ring (olive) that goes around the hose deforms when you use it to fill the space, so those are one time use only so it would be best to replace them. The way I do it, I cut the end of the hose off so the insert is still attached. I clamp very, very lightly the insert in a vise and then blast the hose with a blow torch. The hose melts and I pull the hose away from the insert with some pliers. You should be left with an insert (probably still hot) clamped in a vise ready to use again. Stealthamajig ones are red and normal ones are silver.
@Danblom1992 Жыл бұрын
@@Chambers36TheEnter it’s a brand new brake and everything is the same as in your video (new olive etc) the only thing is there isn’t a torx head.. could it be down to the fact this line uses mineral oil? It’s a sram DB8 brake

@@Chambers36TheEnterhow did you shorten it? I have same brakes and same problem
@jitterspec7 ай бұрын
I think the preinstalled fitting from SRAM doesn't have torx head. They say in the instructions to never reuse an installed barb

that black pad in between the brake pads is hard to remove. any tips?
@Chambers36TheEnter6 ай бұрын
Oh you mean the plastic thing they put in there from the factory? You should be able to pull it out, wiggle it or grab it with pliers.
@beauk76793 ай бұрын
The system comes fully pressurized, you won't get it out easily until pressure is released. Assuming you are shortening your cable, once you cut the hose, the pad will easily come out.
@rossejera16613 ай бұрын
@@beauk7679 thanks. After I cut the hose, it was easy to take out.
