This was a great concert, was so worth waiting all night in line for tickets. My favorite band. The only bad thing about concert was that I missed the end. I am the guy that got knocked out crowd surfing. I did not jump from upper level. Not sure why people thought that. Police asked me that in ambulance. Was at hospital and had stitches in back of my head. There was a guy I remember from the crowd that knew first aid and held my neck still while waiting for ambulance. Always wanted to thank him cause doctors said could have been a lot worse cause disk in neck. Luckily just stiches needed. Other than that was a great concert and still a great memory. Just can't believe it was that long ago. So glad I seen them live!

After waiting forever my friends and I still didn't get tickets. We ended up sitting on the stairs of Centennial Hall to listen to it. Security guard talked to his friend that had walked by with his dog and offered to let him in.. he declined (had his dog and all..), but he said what about these nice gentleman! So we gave him $20 each and said give it to the charity (these were charity shows..). This show ensued. Amazing!

THE BEST BAND EVER. NO EXCUSES. This is a phenomenal capture of a very good performance. Ive seen hundreds of them and this one rules. Whoever dislikes this is quite dumb unfortunately, and/or hates music. The Hip are unique in way to many ways to accurately mention. These are all amazing dudes, family and friends, amazing, best band ever.
@MJLanzend8

Colin, I absolutely agree that The Hip as a unit and each of its members is a shining example of what's good in humankind and in music. This makes them a rare gem in history. I wish I'd had the foresight to plan to see and try to meet them before Gordon Downie passed. You're incredibly fortunate to have/have had them in your life. That said, for better or worse, musical preferences are so subjective - some people only evaluate their internal reaction to sounds and combinations and not the bigger picture - that I've ceased to let negative/hateful/etc. reactions to (especially The Hip's) music faze me much anymore. But I also feel that one probably should only give thumbs up for things they enjoy and not give thumbs down unless there's obvious ill intent on the part of the performers...alas, so it is! Take good care.
@colins7771
@colins7771 3 жыл бұрын
@@MJLanzend8 Well said my friend and you are entirely right... I agree too how musical preferences are incredibly subjective... and I guess my bias will always gravitate to wondering how more people don't already love the Hip! :) im glad you do too. I certainly was luck to be close to the guys, their career and tightness as a band is in a whole difference class!

they came through Winnipeg in 1994. I remember standing in line all night outside in winter in WINNIPEG (winterpeg!) Got brutally cold that night. It was worth it though. It was the one and only time I saw them. Kinda hit me like a freight train hearing he had terminal cancer especially since we're (were) the same age. You know their music now. Does not matter if you saw them live or not. You know their music.

The hip played two shows and the rain absolutely poured the second day, the line up if there was one vanished , the rain had just cleared and my friend called me up and said "hey man get down here there is no one here and i just walked in and bought a ticket", we raced in a cab to get there but by the time we got there a lane had started to form , we were probably getting in anyways but a girl came to the line selling tickets and I didn't hesitate and got them in my hand and the cash in her in a heart beat. It was surreal ,people had paid up to $1000 a ticket for the previous days show and my friend and I had just got in with almost no wait for $25 a ticket . The show was epic as you can see and a dude took the plunge off the balcony at one point. Good times.

I saw them at the first three shows they did in New York City for the Phantom Power Tour in 1998. They played at Wetlands. It held maybe 300 people at capacity and there was hardly even a stage. It was only maybe two feet high and no security or anything. It was like having the Hip play in your own basement. Hayden opened- he was amazing. Made me a Hayden fan for life.

Thoughts on this version of "New Orleans Is Sinking"? When I had this concert on VHS, it was my least favourite live version of the song (which meant it was still awesome, but not as good as the other versions I've seen and heard). I always thought Gord playing guitar during it really mellowed the song out. Especially when compared to the frenetic energy he displayed whenever he performed the song sans guitar. Watching this now, for the first time in at least a decade, I still kinda feel the same way. I think I appreciate the understatedness of this performance today than I did back then. But it still can't compare to whirling-dervish-Gord overall. I'm curious to hear what anyone else thinks. Namaste

I agree with much of what you've said here, but their sound is more refined by this point, or at least this is how I interpret what you call "understated". There's a sense that they grew up as a band around in the late 90s, and of course that's not to say they were "immature" in the late 80s early 90s, or children or anything like that. Something On and Escape kind of underscore what I mean, perhaps.
