There's a token behind the rocket in the end and one at the beggining of the second ball riding section, there is a passage with a lava waterfall inside of it, use tails to go up it and follow the way for the second token

For the 2nd emerald token, that's how you go out of there, not go inside. You need to fall with a riding ball from a higher position to enter the place with the token.

There's also a third token which you can reach with either Tails or a tornado shield, above the checkpoint prior to the last ball riding section.

Fang leads the gang to a volcano. At first, nobody's quite trusting, but Fang explains that deep within here there's a rocket that should take them right to Eggman's base. Along the way, the now-quartet faces many challenges, such as lava falls, running on boulders to traverse lava, and those FRIGGIN PTERABYTES I HATE THEAt last, the gang finds the rocket, just where Fang said it'd be. Of course, this leaves a question: Should the trio bring Fang with them? Knuckles is the one to say yes. It wouldn't be responsible to leave him here. The other two concede. He goes to grab Fang, but the door slams in his face, as the rocket readies for takeoff.

I think the reason this level is such a difficulty spike from arid canyon is because there were actually two zones that were meant to come between them, and one of them, dark city zone, was meant to be where you’d fight black eggman instead of in black core zone.

Am I the only one whose worst nightmare on this stage was the dragonflies that drop bombs??? those things are nefarious Dx many times I found that they followed me to infinity and beyond, to places very far from those things originally appeared, cornering me between a lot of dangers of difficult escape and filling the place with bombs all around of me, and making me blast away throwing me into the lava or another dangerous place of certain death!! They are also fast and fly high, so it is difficult to destroy them!! They frustrated me so much and made me scream things like "leave me alone!! why should I go through all this??? I'm Sonic!! I just want to save the animals and protect my world from evil!! why should I suffer like this??? Is there not justice in the world!?! damn robotnik why do you want to conquer the world?? you have nothing better to do??!! I hate your badniks in this game aaahh!!! Dx" and other things hahaha
