I agree that in the old times it was easy for gay men to hide themselves among the priests. You dont have to marry women, nobody asks you why you do not have sexual relations/ attraction with women, you could find another gay lover in the community.....

Monsieur Martel ~ This work that you provided to the religious community ( as well as the secular ) is Seminal ! Thank you for providing an English translation at it's early release ; my French is rather weak these days ! At my first read - you "had me" ! My second read it truly "held up" with its literary scholarship . Now, it has become a Reference - Go 2 for modern history in the Church. Have you , by chance , thought of doing a book / research on : [ The French's participation in the Vietnam War ? ] Merci , £

I was in Rome for the Pope's inauguration. One friend was there with his family, who were committed Jesuit believers. On the other hand, I knew another couple who thought english to vatican priests in the main seminaries, and over dinner would tell us how all the priests were openly gay. Not only that, the said the previous Pope was gay, and his assistant was his gay lover. I thought this was a fabricated tale, but they were unmoved in hearing anything else. This was normality in Rome. I was genuinely shocked. Its not until I hear this story, that it matched what I heard myself.

The interviewer in this video is rather irritating in the questions asked and her agitating attitude! Whereas Frédéric Martel is most informative and reasoned in his research and understanding. He reveals a reality so hidden and showing the two facedness so much of the past.

Yes, the Catholic Church's setup for their priesthood does encourage "gay" men to enter the priesthood. However, the problem of the Catholic Church is that it is a Middle Ages church that operates on Middle Ages values: sin is to be avoided and consequently one must live in a monastery or convent to avoid contagion! Jesus was about people, not ceremony, vestments, scriptures, etc. Jesus was all about love, charity, and acceptance! Young people refuse to enter a church once they leave the family nest! They are not "fearful" like their parents! I give the Catholic Church ten years!!!

I don't understand the point. The fact that something is something, does nothing (typically) to effect the morality of something. The fact that many priests are gay, does nothing to support the argument that it is Holy to be gay. Quite the contrary, homosexuality cannot be reconciled with the words and life of Christ, and will of God, of the Holy Bible. Full stop.

“The point” is to conduct a secular sociological study on a phenomenon within the European and Latin American church as a global institution. The whole question of arguing for or against the morality of gay sex is not a question the book attempts to broach
@WinstonNewYork6 ай бұрын
@@minui8758 Excuse me. You are philosophically, logically and theologically wanting. My precise point is that the Holy Bible, as does theology of Faiths of the Book, as does (even secular) philosophy, all suggest that your want of moral uncertainty, ends in moral wantedness. Homosexuality is immoral. Sorry to hurt you, but available to bring you to that understanding.

How many young men who joined the priesthood have been victims of childhood sexual abuse by priests or family members or both and what proportion of these, if presumed to be homosexual would turn to preying on children or on young seminarians, since the culture in the church, ,,is how it works,, but how many men would actually practise this ritualized, rite of passage, 🤔, since the whole business suggests it is custom made for putting someone young in the same position the older priest would have been in when he was abused as a young person, except he is now the powerful adult who is getting back by making this proxy self get humiliated and shamed in this shared secret. Some of these ,,sicker,, type individuals, one would think would be more prone to target children, because they are probably disabled in their ability to form loving, longer term partnerships with their fellow priests, presuming that takes place between known child molester priests and non child molesting priests. As your guest says, he would rather priests had boyfriends than involved children in their sex lives.
