Ranil Wickremesinghe, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, addresses the general debate of the 78th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (New York, 19 - 26 September 2023).
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.
The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. Currently made up of 193 Member States, the UN and its work are guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter.
The UN has evolved over the years to keep pace with a rapidly changing world.
But one thing has stayed the same: it remains the one place on Earth where all the world’s nations can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions that benefit all of humanity.

He has mitigated potentially brewing third uprising of the communist movement, if left uncontrolled Sri Lanka would have drifted to a deeper hole. Is he perfect? This guy was not elected president by the majority of people in Sri Lanka but was selected by the corrupt MPs in the parliament. Therefore, most Sri Lankans do not accept Ranil as the country's president. There are many loopholes in the constitution; according to that, he is considered the constitutional president. He must not have any executive powers similar to those of an elected president. He must win the presidential election to be Sri Lanka´s executive president. Then he can represent the country at the UN.

Visiting the country, & find from recent chaos the country is settled, and stabilized and could find anything for consumption. The business is as usual and Sri Lanka has a great infrastructure. Ranil had a reputation in his early career being a good honest politician and he seems to be doing a good job with transparency from a couple of speeches heard and listening to an investigation conducted in the parliament by another Minister. The economics could get better with strategies to increase export revenues and self sufficiency for each family especially outside Colombo, to grow its’ own vegetables and fruits be given consideration. In fairness to the Prez and the country thought would give a correct picture seen first hand except currently faced with the global inflation as it is an island and has to import but finding the vegetables and products made with the country are affordable. Only to tweak the economics strategies to earn more export revenues and managing inflation and country’s growth.
