Love the explanations and videos but to get to Sigiriya from Colombo or Negombo just take any bus that is going to Trincomallee, Pollonnaruwa or Batticaloa and get down about 20mins from Dambulla at the Sigiriya junction. The catch a local bus or tuk to the rock...this way you can get an AC bus most of the way.

When I was working in Qatar some of my labor were From Sir Lanka good people. One of the guys was a deserter from the Sir Lankan navy. Evidently they have a conscription for the young men from Sir Lanka. He had some pretty interesting stories.

Sri Lanka has never had conscription. Those who went AWOL are the ones who voluntarily joined the forces but couldn't handle the brutal 30 year old war with the Tamil seperatists.

I was lucky and avoided the queues on Sigiriya by starting EARLY in the morning and the crowds were building up by the time we came back down. Loved it though...a must do when you visit Sri Lanka!

@barbara the best thing to do in Sri Lanka hands down is taking the train from Kandy to Ella... the jaw-dropping sceneries will amaze you... I could skip all other places in the country for just this one... :)

@@BlissJoieCom Yes, that is in our plan but with a break at Nurwara Eliya before heading to Ella. Do you happen to know by chance if I can purchase all my train tix at Colombo Fort train station when I arrive or do I have to buy it at each and every station of departure? TIA.

Barbara J yes you can book tickets in advance at the Fort station. Also you can book via Mticketing by Mobitel if you buy a Mobitel sim card at the airport. (They also have the best 4G network coverage in the country and if you’re a vlogger and upload lot of content to KZbin you can take advantage of their time based unlimited data plans.) Yes taking a break at N’ Eliya (also called “Little England”) is even better and highly recommended. Kandy to Nanu-Oya (N’ Eliya) is mostly crowded and Nanu-Oya to Ella is the most beautiful part of the journey. Try to visit Horton Plains while you’re in N’ Eliya.. it’s so beautiful and a totally different environment out there.

Great video as always, BUT... I think what you should mention (and do yourselves) is being at the Sigiriya's ticket office at 7am or even earlier. That way you avoid huge waiting lines everywhere and the climb is about an hour or so, with stops. And without the crazy sun. Plus DON'T take a guide, they charge crazy amounts of money and just herd you through as quickly as possible, without showing you all the hidden places - which you can explore yourself (like the prison rock for example).

We arrived in Dambulla at night. The following morning we hit Sigiriya and Pidurangala. Stayed that night again in Dambulla and headed out early the next morning from Dambulla to Trinco

Doing a marathon of all Int Affair videos and I gotta say these are hands down the most informative travel guides on KZbin. Planning to go on a Southeast Asia trip in 2020 as a solo female traveler (since it is pretty hard to find someone who would travel for months straight). Totally into all the adventures these two are doing but by looking at my physique, I am very tiny and thus might get me in some pretty dangerous situations. Would sure love company (and someone to split the cost) so maybe ping me and we can plan out some trips together? Hoping someone out there is also in the same boat as me haha.

If you want to avoid crowds at Sigiriya rock definitely go during low season, we visited back in July 2016 and don't recall there being any queues, it was so quiet! How did you find the last part of the climb? I remember it being quite scary (one ladder and a massive drop below you) but maybe it has improved since then?

Trinco is purely a Tamil Hindu Temple Town w the famous ancient temple adjacent to 7-8 healing hotspings, with one of world's deepest natural harbour& beach both US, India& China wants badly... Salt terrain(uppuveli)& moon terrain Nila... So mix Tamil & & Sinhala music's when possible.

Great work with the videos. Have a question if I have to choose one place among Sri Lanka, Thailand, Angkor Wat and Bali for 4-5 days which one is a must visit/you would Highly recommend

This is a tough question to answer...You only have 4-5 days which isn't enough to really get a feel for an entire country (ie Thailand or Sri Lanka). Bali is a fairly large island where you'll only be able to spend your days between 1, maybe 2 areas. Angkor Wat is manageable for 4-5 days but you can usually see the temples in 1-2 days. We have a lot of great videos on different cities/areas in Thailand and Bali as well as a video on Angkor Wat. We'll be releasing a lot more Sri Lanka videos soon! Our suggestion is to deep dive into what interests you the most and make your selection based on how many days you think you'll spend between each area 😃

Another great video! Wow those queues were long! Looks like the view was worth it though! Thank you! Drone laws are a touchy subject. They are constantly changing. As we’re not officials and probably not the best to give legal advice on drone piloting, our recommendation is to check online before your trip to see if there are any new laws or requirements for flying. I can tell you that we've never had an issue, anywhere we've been, with airport security trying to confiscate our drone. Hope this helps! Safe travels!

i remember the days when Sigiriya had a suspension bridge which just had ropes on either side to hold onto and you could have dropped down. i couldnt believe how dangerous it was howeer i dont think it exists like that now. or Do they still havethis. it was the most scariest thing i have seen and people were crossing it. i was a kid so decided not to but i think its been replaced with stairs. so i never got to the top cos to get to the top you had to go on the suspension bridge... it looked kinda authentic tho. Also have you noticed than an ariel photo of the rock actually looks nothing like a lion but actually a reptilian head and the claws are not lions as they only have 3 clause unlike a lion which would look like a paw... things that make you go hmmm

Regarding the sticks holding big boulders. Locals believes putting such sticks and help the rock as a support comes back to their lives as a support to resolve problems.

There is no alternative to Sigirya. The historical and archeological signifficance cannot be matched.
