Documentary on the great Indian sage Sri Ramana Maharshi.
"JNANI" serves as an initiation into Advaita vedenta philosophies in the light of the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi. Rather than attempting to absorb all the content in a single sitting, encouragement is given to revisit the documentary over time, allowing the gradual assimilation of its substance. In doing so, deeper layers of understanding may be uncovered with each subsequent viewing.

I climbed up the mountain 45 minutes daily to his private residence where he sat in silence for years daily while there with a bottle of water and peanuts. Meditated with the monkeys and peacocks. Highly charged environment.

I first saw Bhagavan in a photo in a book. I was only 13. I opened it and read that all people desire happiness and my soul said, “Yes!” Bhagavan is the sweetest, purest, gentlest, truest truth teller I know. I am so stunned to find this film show up on YT just now on my morning “check in” with coffee. My dear friend and psychic Michael Hillary Hughes was a devotee of Ramana Maharishi and quoted him often. Michael passed away many years ago and at 75 I would imagine I will see him in the next few years unless he’s jumped back in the game already. Ships that pass in the night. This documentary found me. Few days ago I heard "JNANI" during a meditation, I didn't bother looking it up. Then, this documentary came up in suggestions. In fact this comes the more I'm into the multiple realizations that truly everything is maya, mental projection of the eternal Self. The real peacefulness comes from the void - where paradoxically we realize the fullness of Being. Within this void everything becomes clear and peaceful - where nothing happens and all those phenomena that happen are realized being projections of one of the layers of Self.

Glad to see this have so many views. I am often shocked how very few people in my life have heard of this man and his teachings. I bought one of his books 7 years ago after becoming interested in yoga and kept it on a shelf for 3 years before opening it. I was meditating once and saw it on my bookshelf. I opened it and read reality in 40 verses. To say it changed my life would be an understatement.

Alex: May I add that Swami Poornanandha Tirtha, who passed away in 1988, had said that in future, Reality in forty verses[Sat Darsanam in Sanskrit and Ulladu Narpadu in Tamil], will be considered greatest among Upanishads. After watching almost 10 years of spiritual stuff, he is the one who pointed me towards the majestic, respectful and great self who my body and mind are at his presence and attendance. When U G Krishnamurthy asked Ramana, " I want to have what you have" - Ramana said -- "I can give you, but can you receive it " --- this is by far the best explanation from Ramana Maharishi about enlightenment. -- the beauty of this conversation is --- What Ramana had to offer was silence --- but nobody can receive silence because they can recognise sound but not silence.

This ego mind that I most of the time refer to as "I", started learning about Advait Vedanta 4 or 5 years back. After some time through MOOJI, I was introduced to PAPAJI and SHRI RAMANA MAHARISHI. And the process of Self-inquiry has grown deeper and deeper in this "I". There hasn't been a day in these past years where I haven't been thinking about these teachings and self-inquiry. I have grown very calm and peaceful as a result. And I just feel it is so wonderful, that life has conspired to teach me this beautiful perspective. Gratitude 🙏 from the bottom of my heart goes to all the people who are seeking and who are teaching this beautiful perspective.

Maharishi goes much deeper into the understanding of the self than anything else I have read. Usually most spiritual teachings lead you to an understanding that your true essence is awareness prior to identification with form, the realising of the false self, the ego and finding solace and peace in the knowledge that all your suffering is illusory. Like The Four Noble Truths in Buddhism which explain the suffering in life and how to approach extinguishing the flame of suffering through wisdom and meditation. But incredibly Maharishi goes so much deeper into the realisation of self. Actually it makes me feel quite uncomfortable but there is a certain resonance of truth in what he points to. He truly was a remarkable man and in this age of deceit with so many false gurus out there profiteering on the resurgence in eastern spirituality his message remains as relevant as ever.
@chendaforest
@chendaforest 4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The simplicity and universality of his message is appealing, indeed as David Godman points out self inquiry is not even a religious practice. But it is a somewhat unsettling idea, but one which intuitively feels true.

First saw a vid about Ramana spring 2011. Ordered 2 books that summer. Read parts of them and would think about the stuff in them every now and then and one day October 2013 it all just hit me as I was stuck in traffic listen to Doom Metal (Electric Wizard) Just had a random thought, then asked myself "to whom are these thoughts occuring?" Obviously, the answer was "to me" and once i answered, everything just got quiet and I understood everything and just started laughing at how the "enlightenment" I'd been searching for had been there the whole time. It's just easy to overlook because we are all so used to it. It's like if we were all fish who could talk and I was trying to explain what water is to you. It's just so ubiquitous to us both that we'd overlook it. Assuming we have never jumped up into the air, we have nothing to compare water to. That enlightenment experience was the exact same feeling I'd get while dancing on LSD back in the 90s when all thoughts would go away. The way I described it back then was being "hyper aware". But this time since I had read about Vedanta I could put words to it easier. And now I'm the years since I've gotten way more into Vedanta and the Upanishads and they all make perfect sense. It still hard for me to get back to that state, intellectually, I know I and always that. But it's just hard for me to meditate. I've gotten there several times while running Tldr: it only took me 2 years from seeing a vid of Ramana to realize the self. A very casual 2 years at that

I had so many questions about ‘I’ when I was a child but I couldn’t do the self enquiry neither there was anyone could ‘ help’ me but only to follow the instinct to get on with the ‘life’... I ditched watch and birthday and other ‘fixed events’ etc in my earlier stages of my life, I only stand on the truth so my life never have been ‘smoothly’ and I realize ‘I’ don’t fit in this ‘world’ because the conflict between ‘I’ as only seeking the truth but outside of ‘I’ are all false and mind rules games, no matter how and what I do as long as I connect to the outside of ‘I’ that I don’t have the ‘peace’ but only have to get on with according to outside of ‘I’ ! What’s the point of this life as ‘I’ ... only one thing I appreciate with the humanity is that the technology helped to have this kind of information to be received and spreading and top up on to my own instinct that now ‘I’ could formally to only seeking inside of ‘I’ and firmly to ‘ignore’ outside of ‘I’ and the peace is staying with me as long as I could holding up of this ‘I’ from the moment to the moment. Thank you to those who are awakening human 💝

All your questions are of your mind. All you statements are of your memories and experiences. Neither of it is true. Inquiry into your nature will reveal you your truth. And you are moving towards it.

I wish and often day dream that I could meet Bhagwan Ramana, Swami Vivekananda, Paramhamsa Ramakrishna, Ma Sarada Devi, Ananadmayi Maa, Swami Chinmaya, and the great Adi Sankaracharya. My guess is they would all say to me that I already have and will continue to meet them when I go within ! 🙏🏼🕉️🙏🏼

He was indeed a great human being. Divinity personified. We often think of divinity as something fantastic, when in reality it's very simple, it's just that we are full of thoughts and emotions clouding our judgment. The secret is to take off, not to add, impersonality. Thank you for this documentary!

@ Sofia Green. You are in the bliss state every time you are in deep sleep. However because your mind is not present you have no recollection of that experience in the form of memories of it. However you do have a residue of that experience when you wake up and said: “I slept very well”. Through Sadhana practice the mind can become strong enough that it you can be in a state of deep sleep while awake. Sri Ramana used to say that he was aware of the self even in deep sleep. He also used to say that the mind is not strong when it thinks furiously, it’s strong when it’s free of thoughts. Sadhana is require to get there.
