David, a great job you are doing. Your rendering of the Who Am I? brochure helped me grasp something. I don't claim to have made a great progress, but this method does work with me in eliminating negative thoughts. Before, I turned to the writings of Seneca and Marcus Aurelius, now I see that Ramana Maharshi's self-enquiry method is more efficient.

I was going through difficult times in the last year and discovered meditation. I watched many videos on Sadhguru, Allan Watts, Ram Dass, read several books (Zen, Tao Te Ching,..). All somehow helped me but I think they were temporary. However, once I read Sri Ramana Maharshi’s book “Who am I”, it really clicked me. Thank you David for your video, it is very useful particularly after reading the book and practicing a bit 🙏.

Welcome to Sanatan Dharma (Hinduism) sir. Sanatan Dharma believes entire universe is born from same source Whom we Hindus call AUM(OM). Hence we believe that Parmatma (God) is in every thing because all have born from same source and that same source is present within all as vital life force, hence all are equal that's why our Sanatan Dharma scriptures says "Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam" means not just 3-4 but whole world is our family. Love for all hatred for none. We believe within every living being there is divine God that's why we do namaste to all means I bow down to the divine in you. That's why you will find majority of Sanatan Dharmi Hindus vegetarian also as we see Parmatma (God) even within animals. Our Sanatan Dharma (Hinduism) is oldest civilization on planet Earth created by Parmatma. It all about spirituality and human salvation from cycle of birth and death. Welcome to Sanatan family. 😊

Beautifully explained. I've found the trouble most people have is regarding the interpretation of, 'focus on the I thought'...the word 'thought' in this instruction being the most confusing to 99.9% of people. He actually means the most intimate thought, or subjective 'sense' of self or what I call 'youness' rather than the conceptual, historical 'idea' of you. It's literally closer than the tip of your nose and still isn't the real I. Yet the realisation that this subjective 'sense' of I is actually the original thought is the beginning of its end. Consciousness is a clever stick!

I am so grateful that such lucid and helpful clarifications, that themselves closely follow the source teaching, are available, esp for a beginner like myself. Beginnings are delicate times. Half a degree may not seem very much on a compass. But the further you go, the more that half a degree, or slight misconception, will expand. So, thank you David, Henry and all those experienced people who are so willing to help and guide, selflessly.

+Ramanathan T I have been doing self-enquiry for years now... I find it very difficult, but it gets easier the more I do it, often unexpectedly. It absolutely brings results, generally not immediately, for a time it seems hopeless, and often has a delayed effect, but all the effort I have put into it, absolutely rebounds and I have had various moments of the I disappearing entirely after doing enquiry for weeks, usually after intense suffering drove me into it. If anyone wants to discuss experiences with it, practical matters, whatever, please send me a message, I would love to be able to contact others who are interested in Enquiry or already do it as a regular practice.

+Evan Cary When I first did it, it was at a time that I was becoming too disenchanted with open eye meditation because as David makes clear there IS that distinction between meditation and Inquiry. But in faithfully following a guided practice on CD put out by one of Nisargadatta's devotees, for about a two week period I was basking in this state though as an experience it was naturally temporary. But paradoxically enough, my level of self confidence and sense of operating without boundaries was immense.

If one happens to read the comments made by several people who have listened to this talk, one cannot disagree with those comments as the speaker has thoroughly explained the methodology of self enquiry as suggested by Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi himself. The speaker has taken so much of interest in explaining the methodology so clearly in order to encourage the seekers to follow this approach easily. I don't have any words to express my gratitude to the speaker. Many many thanks 🙏🌹🙏

Mr. Godman, Namaste. I love the way you narrate Bhgawan's stories. Many a time it brings shivers in my spine and hair stand straight on my hands . I cant quite explain the infinite peace I feel. You have created what we call Pothi - which is a sacred book chronicling the saint's life , for example Mr. Dabholkar wrote Sai Sat Charitra in 1920's on life of great a Saint Sai Baba of Shirdi , and this book is read with devotion by millions of devotees. Your style is equally eloquent, sweet and loving , totally filled up with bhakti and jnana - you actually takes us to those times when Ramana was alive in his body. Incredible. You too are a true devotee and your life is well spent on creating such an important and humongous work . Shall we call your Pothis as as "Ramana Mahatmya" . I have no doubt path of self enquiry will reach millions upon millions and benefit them on this planet because of your untiring , lifetime's effort. It is just a start. Many many many - thank you, thank you ,thank you. Please continue to share your expert commentaries. My pranams to Bhagawan

I wish Korean subtitles were added. I hope that this great teaching, ultimate and practical, will be easily accessible to Koreans as well. Your humble attitude and your pure intention and passion to convey Bhagavan's message is truly beautiful. Thank you sincerely mr godman.

Dear David, your comments on Bhagavan's instructions are crystal clear. You say: "...if you can make your I go back to its source and abide there, then you invoke the power of the guru, the power of the Self, and ultimately it’s this power which is going to suck your quiescent I-thought into its source and destroy it." And, "...If you reach this state of effortless, thought-free I sense, then this I thought will be abiding at its source. This is not liberation; this is simply the I offering itself up in a way as a sacrifice to the Self. " And most simply, "… Your job is to take the I back to its source and hold it there. The power of the Self acting through the guru, its job is to take hold of the I and destroy it once you’ve done that initial process." This image is magnetizing. I'm collecting myself to offer it all up. The cleanest sweep possible. I already feel the "sucking" back to the source process as I hear it. And I also feel myself holding on to the furniture so as not to be pulled away… Here's my fear: once the I thought is destroyed there will be no more laughter. Doesn't it take a differentiated subject to break out in laughter? In these videos Bhagavan radiates a melting smile like I've never felt before, but…. did he ever laugh? Does liberation, Self realization mean no more dancing, laughing or making art? Does it mean not having children because that only perpetuates suffering? These thoughts- desires-attachments do not want to offer themselves up to be destroyed. So very grateful for your videos and exchanges here!

great video on self-enquiry, helped clarify the theory and technique of the practice for me i've been practicing self-enquiry on and off for a year with some positive results, but one problem i have is that the practice seems to only effect the surface level of my mind, without penetrating to the deeper layers although if i practice concentration at the spiritual-eye before self-enquiry, it does penetrate to the deeper unconscious layers, or if i practice a buddhist mindfulness of body sensations, this also helps me go deeper into the mind, i have also tried breath concentration before self-enquiry but this hasn't taken me to the depths of the mind when combined with self-enquiry, it's interesting that breath concentration with self-enquiry doesn't take me to the depths of the mind, but third-eye concentration with self-enquiry does, it seems to me that in india there are many more people who are living in this third-eye awareness, or at least practicing a technique with a similar energy i feel that concentration at the spiritual eye may be making me more aware of the subtle body or astral-layer of reality, i wonder if ramana maharshi had spent previous lifetimes developing this awareness, so that when he found self-enquiry, his mind was continuously living on the subtle-body soul level, and therefore self-enquiry alone was all that was needed to penetrate the deep layers of the mind anybody have any thoughts or advice on this? self-enquiry (for me) can be relatively shallow unless i combine it with the right sadhana. Is it possible to use self-enquiry alone to go to the depths of the mind for temperaments like mine? Am I just not being persistent enough with it? or do some people naturally have a certain quality of consciousness that makes self-enquiry more effective for them? This may explain why some people experience so much frustration at not sensing any progress with self-enquiry

13:34 "The first thing to appreciate about Baghavan is that he was absolutely non-prescriptive..." 15:34 "... the *I-thought*..." 17:21 "... The subject - *I* - is completely a fiction... It''s a false association. It arises from an idea that: I am a person. I have a mind. I live inside of a particular body. I do things. He said that idea is absolutely wrong. And he said it's what causes you suffering, it's what makes you have wrong ideas about yourself[/ your self(?)], about the world... [...] and he said: This sense of personal identity, which he called the *I-thought*, needs to be challenged... and it needs to be challenged repeatedly, regularly, on a moment to moment basis... " 18:47 "... What is this thing inside you that is aware of your thoughts? What is this thing inside you that claims it's perceiving objects as inside of yourself?.." 19:37 "... What I would suggest..." 21:09 "What he's saying in effect is that there is a false entity..." 21:47 "Imagine it's the shirt of a man and his dog picks up the scent of that shirt... the dog can put its nose on the ground and follow the scent to the original owner of the shirt..." 23:35 "... The I can only exist in association with and identified with objects. It cannot exist by itself..." 24:21 Who is the *I* who inquires? 35:56

Hi David, Thank You for your great work. You have brought Bhagavan alive to so many of us who were not fortunate to be born when he was alive. I wish I could have been in his presence. I also wish they had recorded the talks with Bhagavan so that we could hear his voice and blessings directly from the Guru. The path of self-realization is very difficult and I hope HE has mercy in me to take me away from this materialistic world through HIS grace. May God always LOVE me and all of us such souls who want to experience him and reach him. I am sure since we are his creation, he has pity on us and does LOVE us, This life of mine has gone waste and I am not sure if I will ever experience HIM or see HIM this lifetime. Om Namo Bhagavate Ramanaya! Krishna

Great video! Oh self-enquiry, so simple, so hard to find other people who are doing it daily, so hard to do it unceasingly, tirelessly... but then again "the idea of difficulty is itself wrong", so I need to get back to enquiry. haha Thanks Mr. Godman!

Hari Om David Godman. First of all thank you very much for so much of your works that is helping me very much. By this comment I would like to dispute partially your end statement that concentration does lead only to experiences but not to self destruction. I remember Atmananda ji saying that mano laya (mind suppression) is very conductive state by itself. I think that Atmananda Ji explanation was that it helps you to realize what you are not and then more easily practice dispassion. My personal guess would be also that staying in such state is by it's nature slowly dissolving the habit of the mind and thus helping also slowly directly. Also Sri V. V. Brahmam in his satsangs repeats quite often that you do Atmavichara untill you have peace and then stop and let peace work itself. (I assume peace itself is eroding ego). So I agree with you that goal is to dissolve ego (though I do not know such state) but I would say that if someone is having peace by concentrating on heart center then it is very good and beneficial. As long as he is not proud about that (which would boost ego and would be a contraproductive practice). I would agree with you that if someone by constant self abidance can directly make a shift and realize that there is no ego-self then it would be The Goal. But I think for many there is many mano layas and perhaps some experiences and those are good and helpful as long as not over priced and not being attached to them.

Hi David: I think you are extremely serious in pursuit of spirituality, you lived in Arunachal Hills, followed Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj and also spent considerable time with Papaji. After all that did you get your enlightenment! I think you are the most deserving on this planet, and If you are not self- realized, I don't have a chance in hell. Sri Nisargadatta's words are like bullets, each time there is a new experience whenever I read "I am That". It is so sad no one knows him even on the street he lived all his life. If you are enlightened, how it is possible to meet you!
