It's called Been, the musical instrument, it's what snake charmers( saperas ) uses. The actress is a shape shifting snake Naagin who can shape shift between human and snake. And she married a human. The shape shifting snakes are powerful and sometimes the SeshNaag(male) and Sesh Naagin(female) guards a gem which has tremendous power. Shapeshifting Cobra(Ichchadhari nagin) is an Indian mythological creature that appears in very old stories. The creature is used by JKR in Harry potter as well and Nagin is one of the horcruxes. Indians assign mystical, magical powers to Cobras and believe that if you ever hurt a cobra then you will be cursed. A cobra always takes a revenge and the stories talk about cobras living for 100s of years that have magical powers to assume anybody’s form. Thanks, Sridevi the late legend was indeed the first female Indian Superstar of Indian Cinema, many actresses looked up to her. She was not only beautiful but was excellent in acting, dancing in any form with ease and flexibility not being formally trained. She was known to be introverted but was a livewire in front of the camera very expressive and energetic. She began as child at age four completed close to 300 films including cameos roles. People flocked to theatres to watch Sridevi, she would outperform her male costars and could carry the whole film on her shoulders. Nostalgia watching her in this iconic song from the film of our childhood years. Loved her performances in movies Lamhe, Chandni, English Vinglish and many more.

Its great for you to understand the essence of the song but i guess its also great because the actors portrayed sheer brilliance through their acting, exactly conveying that essence . Though this was a typical masala desi movie we still have it etched in our memories cause these are the movies we Indians grew on. Srivdevi indeed was brilliant and the actor, who plays her husband in the movie (Black jacket guy who slaps her in the end of the song) is Ranbir Kapoor's late father (Rishi Kapoor) another legend by himself. His and Sridevi's song from late 70,80 and even 90s were brilliant. Thats why i keep saying you haven't even explored 10% of bollywood yet. Add Sridevi's movie English Vinglish to your bucket list. This movie was released in mid 80s and most of the actors shown in this song are not in the world now. Sridevi, Amrish Puri(The bad guy here) and Rishi Kapoor all are dead now. It's a Supernatural movie. I believe she's, well done Waleska, a magical Snake who can take human form. India doesn't hate snakes the way most of the western world does. One of our preeminent gods is a snake with seven heads who's supposed to be holding up the entire universe atop his head. The villain played by the Late Great Amrish Puri who was The villian of Nineties Bollywood. Snakes.. the foundation of this type of dance comes from snakes😂 Nagin dance is sooo famous in India, there is always an uncle at Indian wedding who drops on the ground to replicate her nagin moves😂😂 So, she plays the role of a Ichhadhari Nagin in this movie, which is a shapeshifting female cobra (male cobra would be called Nag). Oh dear one of my favourites or should i say i was always mesmerized with Naag Naagin (Divine cobras) there are so many movies and shows about these where you find the characters who are snakes but can turn themselves into humans and also some of them can take any human shape and form. These stories mostly are revenge stories. It has been said snakes can live up to 100 years and when someone is killed or tortured the snakes takes revenge. Sridevi ji had always big beautiful expressive eyes and here it's not only contact lenses but also her expressions that makes this mystical movie so enjoyable. From big screen to indian Dramas these stories has been always pulling numbers. I remember sayantani ghosh playing naagin on a drama and then later on Mouni Roy did it and that show was record breaking. After that it has been repeated with same story but only a few of them were actually good.

As per the Hindu mythology as well as archeology findings of several temple structures; there were humanoids who were snakes and can transform into human or change their appearances of different humans. Who stays in pairs and can live for more than hundred years. It seems as per the folklore they guard a snake pearl which is said to be very powerful and all wizards or witches wants to aquire it to increase their magical powers. This movie is about the love of a snake lady and a snake man who dies and take rebirth as a human. So the vilian finds out she is the snake lady so he with his apprentice comes to take her to get the pearl. So the instrument they are playing is called 'Been' or 'Pungi' which acts like a snake charmer for which the actress in the song was feeling uncomfortable and was not able to resist on the sound of that instrument. Even in modern days in India you would see the traditional snake handler carries this instrument with them all the time.
