I'm 64 and have been riding for 52 years. I'm 6'2" and find my F6B GoldWing SO DAMN NICE to ride. Though I switch off regularly to my Concours, nothing beats the smoothness, power and ride of my F6B. I've had many, many bikes over the years, but if I could have only one (a terrifying idea) it would be my Honda.

I’ve wanted a Goldwing since I was 16 years old (1985). Finally got it in 2020 (2018 that never sold) & immediately rode it from Vegas to Texas to see family. Cadillac of touring bikes. Love it. My daily rider is a BMW R1200RT. Also a fantastic bike.

I had a 2006 new Gold Wing and rode that awesome bike for about 3,600 miles. My wife had heard about a number of people in motorcycle accidents and told me I should get rid of it because she cared about my safety. I missed that bike so much through the years. So this year in 2020, I decided to purchase a used Wing of the same type. So glad to be back on one. The wife isn’t saying anything this time or at least hasn’t said anything yet. Not sure what to think about that. Nothing better than a ride, whether just a couple of miles or much further, there are always smiles afterwards.

Please bear with me. No ill will here, just how I felt about that video and what i would like better. After the first 3 minutes of this video i was like: WTH? What kind of noob did the editing for this Video. Throwing the Bible-Verse in between 2 sentences when the first one isn't even finished properly. Than throwing the part with the transmission in between the one with the reverse gear. To me this looks like some Highscool kid took one of your reviews for a homework asignment in video editing and did a bad job in hacking different parts of it back together so he could at least show his teacher that he did something. The transitions get somewhat better after the first minutes but I did like the older format better. Maybe i would like this new one better if you at least finish one point (like the section with the reverse gear) and than switch after that to one part of driving and after that is finished back and so forth instead of switching after every other sentence with no continuety between them. Even better would be if you keep in mind when the switches beween indoor and outdoor will happen when you're recording them (aka scripting the video beforehand) That way when you make the switch it would look way more professionel and not like bad editing. If you can improve on that part than I to think I and maybe others too will find this new format much more enjoyable. Best regards from germany.

Over here (germany) we use to press the hazard switch when we´re approaching a traffic jam on the autobahn so all behind us know they´re approaching still standing vehicles. It´s common sense overe here and prevents others from rear ending us. Makes perfect sense, really!

Yup. We do that as well over here, in addition to using them if we're stuck behind a slow vehicle (tractor, combine, tow vehicle) for that same reason...to warm approaching traffic from the rear. I should specify us OLDER drivers do...most of the younger drivers who got their license via Driver's Ed, don't get as much safety and courtesy training.

@@riskyraccoon It's part of a number of things my father taught/showed me when I was very young. Things like flashing high beams as a vehicle passes you, so they know it's safe to change back over. Since he had been stationed in Europe while he was in the military, it might account for him knowing these things. But you can see truckers doing a lot of this stuff on a daily basis, so...

It's important to note that in some places (certain states at least, idk about countries) that being a moving vehicle with your hazards on is illegal since hazards are reserved for stationary objects. Seems like itd cut down on snowstorm hazards usage except the only place I *know* this law exists is Florida, the snow free state. Also, some cultures use a hazard blink as a thank you/acknowledgement. I think that's adorable.

I have had a motorcycle for 50 years, since I was 8, when my parents got me a Honda 70. As well as countless off road bikes, I have had a couple of Honda Shadows, a Vulcan, a Magna (FAST- great V4 engine), 2 Harley Road Kings (good on the open road for short trips) and the 1600cc BMW (smooth engine but bad handling). NONE of them were nearly as fast, smooth, reliable and good handling and comfortable as my Goldwing. It handles almost as good as a sport bike, even though it weighs almost 1000 lbs. You can set it up off the kick stand like a mini bike as opposed to grunting a Harley to riding position. The engine is silk smooth and STRONG. It is roomy for me and my wife and we can carry a weeks worth of groceries in it. It is just AWESOME ! I ride it as my primary transportation everywhere I go when the weather permits.

@@nasseral-momen1463 The Harley if you like weekend rides with other Harley's and just hanging out and doing the biker thing AND THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL, but a Goldwing if you plan on taking long trips and carrying a lot of stuff with you AND WANT DROP DEAD RELIABILITY. In town I like the Goldwing better because IT RUNS MUCH COOLER. in the summer that Harley get s pretty hot waiting for the light to turn green !! I find myself scooting back trying to run from the engine heat. Harleys have a lot of primary SHAKE at idle while sitting at the light as well. It depends on what you want most from a bike. PS... I am a fan of American made and I do feel a little comprised when I think about riding a Honda... I just wish an American company made something as good as a Goldwing.

When I got old and turned 40 two years ago ;-) I bought myself a super nice 2002 GL1800. This is an incredible motorcycle to say the least. I never thought this bike would go, handle and stop the way that it does and be amazingly comfortable while doing it. I ride this thing almost as hard as my sport bike I had and it just takes it and loves it! I've done a few 2500 mile trips to the Smokey Mountains with absolutely no fatigue at all. My girlfriend does fall asleep on the back occasionally but only if on the highway too long. I tend to stick to the back roads and mountains as much as possible. Thanks for your informative videos and the ministry that you do. I will stop by and say hi someday soon. Ride on.

2018+ is 6 speed manual & 7 speed DCT. I’m mid 30’s and ride a 2008 it’s a rocket. They are great bikes.

I have a 2010, same color, love the bike. Not my first 'Wing either. My first was an '03. Not much difference. I was 41 when I got my '03. Not quite an old man, yet... got my '10 in 2011, aged 49, gettin' older. Finally got the chance to really do what the 'Wing does best, put piles of miles behind me on some awesome curvy West Virginia roads. It's been called a "gizzer glide" by a Harley friend of mine. I hit my Hazards 4 and sometimes 6 times a day commuting daily 60 miles on my ST1300. If I'm last in line at a stop light. If I see someone oncoming signaling for a left turn on a 4 lane road called Highway 17 in the Santa Cruz mountains . Anything to make me Temporarily more visible so they don't cross my path. That and High beams, and moving to the left side of lane 1 to separate myself from car clutter. I did want a GoldWing but I bought the 2014 GoldWing Valkyrie instead for my weekends

As somebody who has resto-modded a 1975 Goldwing and Ridden a GL1800 as well, I have to say that something most people don't talk about is how different the GL1000 was from the newer iterations of the bike. The GL1000 engine was built a lot more like a sport bike motor of the period, with the motor really waking up once you got beyond about 4000rpm, and took off past 5000rpm easily carrying itself all the way to redline. 75-77 had the largest carbs and most aggressive cam profiles of any Goldwing ever built. As it evolved it got more docile, with Honda shifting the power curve down and the engine displacement up.

Amen, goldwing rocks. I got my 2004 in 2006 with 22k kilometers on it. I just past 80k on it and still runs like new. I love the quiet bike as there is enough other noises out there. Majority of people who aren't riders don't like noise polluters around them. The wing is very nimble and can easily navigate twisties in the hands of skilled riders. I also ride a 1999 honda VFR which is also nimble. My wing feels like a touring version of the VFR? Ha, the hazard switch. I have used it a few times over the years but in 2020 I pushed it on and didn't latch, so since honda doesn't sell the switch, I took it apart. There are tiny springs in it not to loose. The manufacturer put a grease in it initially that eventually aged sticky. I cleaned it out and works perfectly. I added kuryakan boards which allow comfy foot movement but do not obstruct leaning. I'm keeping mine till I can no longer ride or die.

I was working at a Honda dealership in San Diego when the GL1000 first came out. (Kearny Mesa Honda is now out of business.) The GL1000 was first introduced to be Honda's answer to the 'super bike'. The bike took off as a touring bike almost immediately when Califia made the first frame mount fairing for it. Vetter's Windjammer soon blew the Califia out and Vetter fairings led to saddlebags, touring trunks and a whole host of products. The point is this: Honda did not perceive the GL1000 as a touring bike.... until they came out with the GL1100 Interstate. They were as surprised as anyone else that the touring bike market sprang up like it did.

I was a little rusty taking slow right turn, but I’m improving. I replaced my stock air filter with a K&N air filter and sconce I have it apart I started changing the paint scheme on it.

My grandfather is 80. He still rides his '06 GoldWing every Wednesday with a couple of his buddy's. They call themselves the "Old Farts". He's been hit on the bike before, and he ended up worse off than the bike was. It's such a super nice ride, the only issue he has is the weight is starting to be a bit much sometimes on the starts and stops (he's 80, tho).

Hi Sean love your bike reviews, I live in Australia, had a decent bike accident 6 weeks ago and broke my ankle, I wrote off my 2005 suzuki c90, was tossing up what to get, can't ride for a little while longer of course got a plate in my ankle, I am 47 goldwing was always my dream bike even as a young bloke and decided this time around stuff it got a 2007 goldwing with only 100,000 km's on the clock so 60,000 miles, can't wait to be able to ride her, she is that dark orange color with like a gold metallic flake through the paint, your reviews just pushed me over the edge from getting another cruiser to getting the bike of my dreams.

Actually, after riding this model for over 50,000 miles, I can say this one DID need a 6th gear -- at TRUE 80 mph (not indicated) it runs at 3300 RPM -- needlessly high RPM for that engine, considering this engine's smooth high torque design could have taken a 6th or even a 7th gear and made much better gas mileage at freeway speeds. It is my understanding that a lot of GL1800 riders were BEGGING Honda for a 6th gear. (I was.) That said, they did absolutely the right thing with adding a 6th gear and changing the ratios on the 2018 and 2019 GL1800s. On the 2018, 80 mph is now achieved at a mere 2600 RPM -- knocked down by a full 700 RPM at that speed, which is exactly what it needed. But I still own my 2002 GL1800 and love it. If I ever buy a 2018+, it will be exclusively for that 6th gear. I am hoping they increase the storage space before I need to start considering that. I hear from someone who owns both a pre-2018 and a 2018 model, that the handling improvements of the new 2018 are like night and day -- like the handling improvements of the 2001 GL1800 over the 2000 GL1500 were like night and day.

I hear everything you say, but with the 6 speed starting in '18 my thoughts are that you are shifting more often in town as the gears are closer together which is even more annoying so I'm not sure if this applies to this bike....I'm buying a low mileage '08 next week so I'll deal with the 5 speed for awhile.. Go to Henry's rear drive you change out the rear gear to give you lower mileage...

Hey the only old thing about a Chicken Wing (GL1000 emblem looked like a flattened chicken) was the old man Soichiro Honda who's responsible for it. I worked on Honda's back then and there was nothing old man about it, amazing bike and it had no Accessories for it initially. They developed it as a 1500 flat six. Nervousness about the size from Soichiro Honda caused it to loose two cylinders (To Big For The Then Market). Amazingly Two American Honda, American R&Ds obtained the original flat six prototype that surprisingly Honda Japan had kept, (tossed many machines after a race or production that were prototypes or other as it was out with the old an in with new technolagy). They shoe horned the proto six into a GL1200 frame and the game was on. BTW, 2010 GL was built out and wharehoused in 2009 for 2010 model year as the factories production equipment was removed from Marysville Ohio and sent to Kumamoto Japan.

I never had a GW till I got the 2020 DCT Tour. Boy, I regret not doing it earlier. HONDA does know how to build a bike. I don't think even BMW knows how to build a reliable bike by now like HONDA. They do something right. Look at Cycle Trader all over the country and check some of the miles on them. They build simple, smart, to the point machines. The fact that the new GW has electric motor that is A) Starter B) Alternator and c) Fwd/Rev motor is remarkable. And, if, only if it will go bad, it is so easy to replace. Maint on them is a pc of cake. Every bike has its issues and none is perfect, but for the price and what you get, priceless !!!! Happy riding !!!!!

I don’t understand why anyone would give this video a thumbs down, unless they are just a die hard Harley fan. I love all bikes and have owned many brands, still do. Antique Honda GW, Suzuki 1340 B-King, BMW R1200RT, BMWK1200s and two very old Honda scooters. I owned a Harley in the past and loved it, great bike and unbeatable sound. Previous makes were, Ducati, Kawasaki, Yamaha, other Hondas, other BMW’s, Husqvarna, 78 Triumph Bonneville, Buell and others I can’t even remember. It’s just whatever you like to ride that makes you happy and the main thing is to be safe and never think you have mastered the art of motorcycle riding, that’s when you’ll get in trouble when you least expect it. I had to learn the hard way in my teenage years showing off making a turn in front of some girls in bikinis and my bike slid out from underneath me and went under a car. Was I embarrassed! 😂😂😂😂

I hit my Hazards 4 and sometimes 6 times a day commuting daily 60 miles on my ST1300. If I'm last in line at a stop light. If I see someone oncoming signaling for a left turn on a 4 lane road called Highway 17 in the Santa Cruz mountains . Anything to make me Temporarily more visible so they don't cross my path. That and High beams, and moving to the left side of lane 1 to separate myself from car clutter. and oh yes....also when I split traffic which is a common occurrence in the Bay area. I did want a GoldWing but I bought the 2014 GoldWing Valkyrie instead for my weekends.

While riding my 250cc scooter with hazard lights I do use them, in emergency braking in the highway to warn the driver behind you. Also to thank some car that facilitates you passing him, or makes room for you while you are filtering.

You are 100% correct, don't touch the HAZARD WARNING LIGHTS! I was out riding on My new 1996 Wing and accidently hit the button had to pull over and play with it to get it to turn off. Never again going to hit that button! Thank you, pray always Johnny Boy

I just let my fully loaded 2009 Goldwing (airbag and all) go last fall since we're moving into a new apartment building this May and BELIEVED that I would not be able to park the Wing sideways in our underground parking spot due to it's length. As it turned out, our designated tandem parking stall is 11.5' wide and 43' long. I could have parked 2 or 3 Goldwings in there along with our cars. However, at age 72 my confidence levels on the Wing were starting to diminish, especially with my honey on the back. She especially misses the Goldwing and its extreme comfort for her. At least we still have our 2017 Honda CB1100EX and a pretty mint 1991 Honda 750 Nighthawk for taking on short jaunts to dinner.

You'll love it! I've been riding one since I was 33 in 1996. Never regretted anything about it. Stick with the maintenance checklist that comes with the manual, and you'll get get a lifetime of pleasure out of it.

I have an 08 with suspension work and Battlax BT45 tire on the front and 185/60 r16 Kumho Ecsta PA 31 83V on the rear. Does not feel like a car tire. Soft transition into hard lean on this setup. BTW the Hazzard switch, reverse switch, cruise switch, maybe some I can't think of right now, all click in and out like a giveaway ball point pen. Dirt causes difficulties. Fortunately, with some skill, they can be disassembled, cleaned and lubed. I use a small amount of food grade silicone grease. 100K miles with only oil changes, filter changes, clutch lever bushing, and regular washing. Industrial Strength Bike.

I have a 2003 Yellow goldwing very very very similiar to the one in the video. And yes that bike is that cool. I am spoiled on Goldwings nothing else I have ridden come even close to the experience of riding one. Not even Harleys. It has 126K miles and still rolling great!

Great review of the bike! Well done! The video while riding the bike where you can hear the engine really well is a GREAT depiction of what it's like to ride it. Very well done. And yes, they are VERY nimble above about 3 mph, and very controllable even at 2-3 mph. (Advice to preserve nimbleness -- NEVER EVER install a car tire on the rear rim. Some people are doing this, but it absolutely DESTROYS the smooth perfect handling from side to side, and in Colorado I am almost NEVER riding in a straight line. I'll never do it, because I CHERISH that perfect, effortless transition from side to side that is a signature ingredient of the bike's very-low-effort handling.)

My friend had a Fat Boy, rode Harley's for 13 years. His neighbor came home with a Gold Wing, he got rid of his Electra Glide and they were talking. He took it for a ride to see what the hype was all about. Three days later he bought a 3-year-old Gold Wing. Kept the Fat-Boy. I remember reading that you could get landing gear as an option on Gold Wings. So when you slowed down wheels lowered from the center of the bike to stabilize it.

lol.... I had to replace the 4-way flasher and now press it each “start of day” pre-ride check to keep it functioning since i like to use them as warnings when need in busy traffic. I bought my first ‘wing in 2018 - a used 2003 with 270 k miles. Have over 300k and live it. Hope I never have to choose between my HD Ultra and the ‘wing!

Goldwings are way harder to master low speed maneuvers and tight turns. The bike can do it it just take way more practice to do it..The automatic transmission is ever worse with no clutch to work the friction zone with. Honda saw fit to not put good crash bars on the new Goldwings. So if you dump it be ready to spend some cash on damage or buy after market crash bars. Still a great touring bike.

143,000 miles on my 2008 GL1800, about 35% highway 65% city. My bike definitely shows signs of age: ghost-shifting has been a (well-known) issue since the 100k mark (skillful shifting/throttling avoids worsening the issue... Replacing the tranny costs north of $4500); reverse doesn’t work anymore (never reverse with a passenger on, the load is too heavy); turn signal toggle switch is out (you need to replace the whole control block, over $350 for a toggle switch that costs $20 retail); seat cover rips at the fake seams (I replaced the seat once already and the second seat has the same issue: rather than replacing the seat, have a specialist change the cover with marine vinyl, much more durable and much less expensive than replacing the seat: $300 vs $1,000); the heating circuits in the grips and seat had to be replaced twice; the LED screen of the navigation unit has 3 large swathes of dead pixels ($1450 OEM unit replacement, though you can buy a replacement screen only for $135 on ebay if you order from the Taiwanese or Chinese maker); the rear light plastic is discolorated and peels off inside (OEM parts overpriced, you can find the same model on ebay for $50); the windshield degrades with mileage, bugs and grime; it isn’t clear anymore (replacement by the F4 aftermarket windshield, much better: $135-$150); I changed my fork seals 4 times, potholes absolutely destroy them ($125 each time); tires have to be changed every 8k-9k miles, not 20k as falsely rated (Michelin, Dunlop, Metzler, same issue: the weight of the bike and the faulty engineering of the front-end result in fast tire cupping - of course, the state of the roads is a major factor too). There is a reason why Honda switched to the wishbone system in 2018 after 20 years of hearing GL riders pest about the wobble at 35mph. Honda also revisited the tranny in 2014 because of the faulty engineering of the previous models, after thousands and thousands of riders complained about the ghost shifting issue (an issuenthat the Honda management has refused to acknowledge to this day). So, I LOVE my Wing, it’s the most comfy bike I have ever owned or ridden, but when it is time to change, in a few 10,000s of extra miles, I might go with BMW rather than buy a new GL.

Hazard lights is common on the german autobahn - if you encounter a traffic jam/accident and have to go for a full stop, EVERYONE (no matter if car, truck or bike) puts on the hazard lights to warn the traffic behind you. That's an amazing chain reaction to watch, like a wave of hazard lights creeping down the highway/autobahn as far as it can

Great bike! Great review! Only one thing you messed up on, gold wings were made at the plant in Marysville Ohio (not Maysville) The Motorcycle plant was right next to the plant that built Accords. I was employed at the Marysville Auto Plant and used to go over to the Motorcycle plant and see the gold wings and the Shadows on the production line it really is a Cool Motorcycle. Interesting thing about that plant unlike many Auto plants that built cars and lots of 30 or 60, at the motorcycle plant it was one Goldwing than a shadow then a Goldwing than the shadoq, back and forth down the line. Don't know why they did it that way, since I was employed at the auto plant, but it was pretty cool.

Andy they could also change over production From one model motorcycle to a different one. In 1987 it was about a 20 minute change at the Kumamoto and about the same at the Hsmamatsu Japan plant. They also had mini assembly lines that made small units in small numbers and that worked out as well. Power carrier line (Twin tracked mini walk behind hauler) was in a like room with maybe a dozen women in white uniforms doing the build. Additionally you could see two different year civics on the line as the changeover was a running change. They used to be really flexible and could bang out a discontinued production model (as in production concluded till the following year) after getting a request for more units. But just in time production changed that. Orders for parts are set way out and in advance of production. Dealers are expected to order way out and maybe 1 year in advance and take their orders of automobiles. But add floods In Thailand, nuke meltdown in Fukushima and you've got parts disruption all over the world. Affected many manufactures globally as certain quality parts came from affected areas.

After 21 years of owning my 2003 Goldwing, at age 80, I have decided to sell my lovely orange bike. After 140,000 kms (90,000 miles) of wonderful travelling memories all over North America, it's time to move to a smaller bike more suited to the day trips I do now. After 68 years of driving (and having owned more than a dozen bikes),when I bought the Wing, I knew right away, I had "arrived". IMO, there is no better bike made - period !

The 'Wing is an amazingly safe bike. Excellent visibility, and the dual rear light clusters make for very aboive-average rear visibility - important in bad weather / twilight conditions. No ambiguity when using indicators either!

Why do I keep hearing the Gold Wing referred to as an "old man's bike" when, over the years, I have seen riders of all ages on them. Funny how some people, who probably think of themselves as very progressive and open-minded, seem to think nothing of having a discriminating attitude towards others based on age.
