I used to wonder, then, this summer, found an 08 HD Electra, $500.00., 34,000 miles. Guy just wanted it gone. I worked on it a week or 2. Gotta say, handles better than my 13 Yamaha Raider( not close to the speed and power), Probably a bit better than my 2 Honda 1800 vtx's . And of course, not as well as my 06 R1. But, a fun bike to ride.

E. J. Potter aka "The Michigan Madman" was the pioneer of V8 bikes. His "Widow Makers" were running injected Chevy small blocks on nitromethane! He did this before many on this channel were even born. He also built a bike with a turbine engine and a car with a V12 Allison airplane engine in it. He truly lived up to his nickname. His Widowmaker bikes would smoke the tire the entire quarter mile and it never ran a straight line. E.J. Potter had balls of steel.

There was a guy here in Cookeville Tn that built custom 2 speed power glides for those bikes and he put one in a 60s model c/10 to test them out it was crazy seeing that little trans in a full size pickup!

Wow, that lean angle is shocking. You'll be holding up traffic at so many highway on-off ramps, looking like a complete dork. Pretty cool novelty "bike". Wasn't designed well with any sort of reasonable ergonomics in mind, but for going to car shows hoping people talk to you it's one of the best out there.

Millyard is one of the most brilliant fabricators ever born. The guy cuts engine cases with hacksaws and the finished product looks like it was milled the way he finished it. Such an unassuming guy too. Just an amazingly talented and brilliant man. Some of his multicylinder creations will never be equalled in quality of finish.

Another person commented on the Viper V10 that Allen Millyard built in 2009, after seeing Dodge come out with the Viper powered Tomahawk. The Tomahawk wasn't known for rideability, unlike Millyards. He reached 207 mph on it, and broke the UK Timing Association (UK&ITA) two-up (rider and passenger) speed record, at 183.5 mph. I wonder if it had special seats made for their brass balls? If the Boss Hoss V8 isn't enough, people have put nitrous bottles on them... YEE HAW

I can imagine that it's a great bike for long highway runs in a large country, but I spoke with a guy who had one at the Ace Cafe in London (near England which is a foggy little island near Europeland.....) and this guy said it was totally impractical here as it has no ground clearance so cornering was hard work. He also said fuel consumption was awful ( our fuel costs roughly twice what you pay) and though it went well in straight lines it was unrideable really due to our strict 70mph limit (less on non-highway type roads) and for that reason he was selling it at a loss because it was the biggest mistake of his life buying it !

Just wear earplugs on a bike all the time. Then it doesn't matter how loud it is. And you'll save your hearing as well. I always wear earplugs when riding.
@nicknelson9450
@nicknelson9450 Күн бұрын
If you have to wear earplugs, then just like in most other situations (concert, movie, equipment), whatever is generating the noise is too loud...and if that device is under your control, then it's unreasonable and selfish to subject others to that noise for extended periods of time. A naked sportbike ridden at high speeds does justify wearing earplugs though...preferably on a track if you want to ride *that* fast.
@rienkhoek4169

@@nicknelson9450Anything that goes over 80 km/h for longer than a few minutes is earplugs for me. Too much wind noise.
@sunsetoriginals7320

My bike isn't loud. But you will definitely need earplugs if you don't want suffer from premature hearing loss. Noise canceling air pods work great too if they don't fall out when you put your helmet on.
@nicknelson9450
@nicknelson9450 12 сағат бұрын
@@sunsetoriginals7320 It seems to me that in most of the western world, bikers, from harleys to sports and adventure bikes, even some goldwingers, remove their factory baffles or change their pipes altogether and generally like to hear their engines grunt, spit and cackle and to be heard by others. I'm in the minority, I believe, because I think the quieter my bike is the better. When you consider that the laws in theory mostly limit their volume to around 70 or 80 decibels...I think it's pretty clear almost no one complies with, nor enforces, those laws. I've been riding for around 40 years, my current two 1990s bikes have full fairings and high windshields, I've always worn an open-face helmet, ride slightly above the speed limit in town and slightly under it on the highway, very often these days wear hearing protection at concerts or movies because I think the sound levels there are nuts while most other people don't seem to mind, but I don't usually wear them on the bikes, unless maybe I'm going to be on the highway for a relatively long ride. One of my bikes currently even has a small rust hole in the exhaust collector and yet it's still nowhere near as noisy as many other bikes I hear on the road and when I'm at highway speeds, say 3000 rpm, the extra rumble from that hole fades into the background. With all that in mind, I can't help but imagine that what you describe as your not loud bike, while maybe less noisy than some others, might in fact nevertheless be *relatively* noisy too, particularly since you bring up the notion of hearing loss. Not trying to argue with you, just bring a sense of perspective to the idea of what's noisy and what isn't. I know in the car world there are plenty of people with non-factory exhausts, but in terms of numbers, the vast majority of cars, including hugely powerful and fast or sporty ones, have very discreet exhaust notes...which, unlike so many bikes, you wouldn't hear going through their gears a couple of miles down the road while you're sitting quietly in your garden. That so many bikers feel they have to make more noise to get enjoyment out of their rides is disheartening to me. If you're 18 years old and having a blast, then fine, have at it and I'll bite my tongue, but otherwise, just give it a rest people please? (Ok boomer)
@sunsetoriginals7320
@sunsetoriginals7320 8 сағат бұрын
It is the wind noise that will cause the hearing loss. Not the noise of the bike. I can't even hear my engine when travelling on the highway. 90% of my riding is at highway speeds. I wear a full face helmet. My bike has a relatively small windshield. I used to have a gold wing and even wore hearing protection with that bike and it had a full fairing. You may not notice but the wind noise will definitely do damage over time to your hearing. Ear plugs cut all the wind noise out but you can still hear what you need to. Just like at a concert. It cuts all the distortion and you can actually hear the band better with them.

$50-60k, huge, barely able to handle, and maybe worst, all that horsepower and torque and they're extremely slow in every way compared to modern 150-200hp bikes. I would like to see a street legal one they tune for drag racing and see what they can get, at least with different tire configurations, but I wish they were better in at least one way than other bikes, other than being the one with the Chevy v8. Oh, and the average stock RR bike engine is more reliable than an ls, let alone any number of other engines.
