Sony didn't tell (I think) the wattage of the two speakers, but the 40 is louder, so I think it has bigger wattage. (and richer, more bass). Yes, you can get the app (named "SongPal" on Google Play or App Store (download).

The only thing im concern with xb30 is the volume will go down when the battery is about 50% or 20% and theres no way you can turn it up unless you charge it to 100% again... I just bought the XB30. I tried both at best buy and It was really hard to make the choice between the charge3 and xb30. Trebles are very high on the charge, not ideal if you listen metal and hard rock. I choose the Sony because the app have EQ and the speaker have NFC. The extra bass is a good feature and nearly all type of music play well in the XB30. Charge 3 have have something similar to extra boost of sony but if you deactivate it, the sound is horrible. On the xb30 some song have good song without the extra bass... both speaker are awesome. Depend on your ears..

Hard to say. It depends on the type of sound you like the most. Just bought a Charge 3, very warm and fuller sound. Pretty decent power for a small, portable, mid range speaker. I am satisfied. If I want more power, I'd use my Sony sound bar + Subwoofer. But this is a different thing.

unless the extreme is there to compete, the sony's actually sound better to me than JBL, even though it sometimes needs tuning. but at least it CAN be tuned. For the size and price compared to JBL's current speakers (except for the XB41, cus that's shite by example). but the XB30/40 are pretty good peformers. And i don't always need full volume. So if it turns down after the 50% mark i don't mind it that much. Extreme is simply better because it separates sound. and it's larger over all. More power. But i really enjoy the SRS XB40 as of now. great sound for what i need / want.

Since the XB30 is still better than the 31 or 32, I will answer it. About 3,5 hours, after that the Speaker will set the Max Volume to 50% and you have 12Hours for the new Max Volume left.
