SRT Oil Filter VS. Factory Replacement.

This battle of the Mopar oil filters we have the SRT, part number Mo - 041 versus the factory replacement. Part number 4884899AC. From the outside they just look like a couple of oil filters. But upon further dissection, there's quite a bit of difference between the two.

Good review but you seem to have missed an important point. On Hemi engines the filter threads on with the inlet facing up. If the filter bypassed the junk from the bottom of the can is unlikely to circulate unfiltered through the lubrication system. On the SRT filter the bypass is at the bottom of the can and any debris that is in the can is highly likely to circulate through the oiling system. Just my 2 cents. Thanks again for a good video.

WIX makes the SRT filter. The similar WIX brand # is 57063. You can also get the same thing with a NAPA Gold # 7063.

It all depends on what and how you drive. I have done all the oil changes myself on my '15 Challenger R/T daily driver every 5,ooo miles. Ive only used the Mopar MO-899 filters. The car runs great, uses about a pint of oil or less between changes. The three Blackstone oil analysis reports I've had done over the years show zero problems or concerns. If I couldn't find an OE filter I'd run a Wix or Mobil 1 filter before the SRT.

SRT engineers say the high flow pressure of the srt oil filter catchs more particles at a higher flow rate making the oil cleaner through the sytem. People try to buy srt oil filter and it says it won't fit there hellcat because its made for the viper but SRT engineers say you can use it but don't take my word for it. Check for your self before using it The SRT engineers worked with many of the filter suppliers to get the best features. Some fell out for various performance reasons but they ended up developing the current SRT filters with Wix, a mainstream manufacturer. The high flow oil pumps in our large engines (Viper is the biggest) can overpower the internal relief valve. When this valve opens it allows some of the high pressure dirty oil to bypass the filter element in order to keep the filter from being damaged. The SRT filters have a higher pressure differential bypass valve to make sure all the oil delivered to your engine, at cold starts and high demand, is clean.

Very good video, thank you for sharing! This is exactly what I was thinking. On Ford side they have their Motorcraft regular oil filters, and also they have the Ford Racing ones for Racing applications. Ford Performance filters are really more robust, can feel the difference immediately, and their much much more heavier than the regular ones. Also, same with SRT filters, I think their designed that way for high endurance racing applications when sometimes ticker oil is used when long minutes and sometimes hours of racing putting the pedal to the floor contantly. Of course regular ones will do the job on a daily basis daily driving them and doing regular maintenance, but I would not install a regular oil filter when racing, only for precaution. Their not cheap, about 40-50$ CAD, but in my opinion it's a lot better doing it than say I'm sorry. Again thank you B Mason!

Personally I hate screw filters, I like cartridge ones that go in the oil filter housing like VW. For example most VW and MB have upper filters that are convenient to change , no fuss. super easy oil change.

Wow! I am buying only the Srt for both my Srt and ram going forward! In fact, I am going to replace my Challenger filter now even though when I bought it from the dealer used a couple of months ago, they already had an oil change on the car. No knowing if even the dealers do it right. Take no chances..

My concern is the bypass valve being on the bottom of the srt filter. If the oil has to bypass for any reason, it will be flowing past the dirty side of the filter media, probably grabbing contaminants on it's way by. Then pumping dirty oil throughout your engine. After seeing your video, I'm switching back to the mopar 899 or a Motorcraft FL 820s. Both of those have the check valve at the top. You did say that they both filter the same micron?

They do filter the same microns. I would prefer that the bypass is on top of the filter for cold oil running situations if the oil pump bypass is simply too high of a pressure rating, But remember that if something catastrophic does take place, there will be no filtration in essence either way. And typically with catastrophic engine failure, oil pressure drops significantly which would not impact the bypass for the filter

@bmasontv bottom line, the 899 is the filter listed for my 5.7, 392, and 6.2, so I'll just stick with that. I see no advantage to running the srt 041 filter, only a disadvantage, (Michigan cold starts). I guess that it having more pleats, it would take more dirt to plug it up, but I change my oil every 2-3k miles, so I don't see any danger of that happening.

@@scotthowat8620 run whatever filter you want. The only important thing is that you are changing your oil very regularly. You would be shocked to know how often that is not the case. Having worked at a shop, I am still mortified by the memory of some of the engines that would show up.

@bmasontv I used to work at a dealership. This one escort came in under warranty ticking away. Pulled the valve cover and it looked like it was still on. 17,000 miles and still had the original grey oil filter. Manager refused warranty. Customer sued and won.

I've gone over this quite a bit. Scat pack. It has more usable power. Hellcats are a lot of fun and small doses but I don't recommend them for people that aren't actually going to be running them at a track.

With all the research that I've done on oil, any of the name brand oil manufacturers in whatever viscosity your manufacturer recommends, will work perfectly fine. Provided that you do not let the oil change interval go over 6,000 mi.

Amazon has 0-W40 SRT penzoil and the SRT filter package for like 90 bucks for the 392, IDK about the hellkitty or the Demon.

IMO after Blackstone oil analysis the Mopar MO899 is the worst filter you could use on a 5.7 Hemi due to the particle count results Trask was the best Hubb was second Mopar was the worst at 4000 miles. Do yourself a favor and test your oil.

my truck has about 200,000 Mi on it using cheap oil filters and semi-synthetic oil. But the oil is changed meticulously. I think that's the biggest key here

It really doesn't matter i drove both of my challengers one with the 5.7 the other with 6.4 hard through the mountains turns and did some hard pulls on the highway with AC Delco oil filters lol no problem just dont buy a cheap fram filter i cant speak for the hell cats tho

Had to get the black one last year for my 2016 charger scat pack because it was difficult to find and order. But I picked one up a couple months ago, so I'm happy. So for stormy...I haven't tried this on my newer 5th gen ram, but does that SRT filter fit in there and would you recommend it for the ram 5.7 ( obviously the 5.7 also applies to the chargers, challenger, Durango and some jeeps)

I only use the SRT filter for the Hemis. Stormy has had 2 oil.changes and both times I ran the SRT filter.

It's compatible with all the hemi engines since about 2011. Viper since 2008 and the 300 since 2005.

I have 45k miles on my cammed bolt on 5.7 and I use 5w-20 with OEM filter every 2000-3000 miles. Should I switch to SRT filters? I live up north so not quite the same hot Texas temps

I dont understand this,, the SRT filter looks like a normal mopar filter ,if you watch anyone of the hundreds of videos on youtube the normal mopar filter looks exactly like the SRT one , im not shitting ya.. look at the videos , i think you may have got a “Fake” mopar filter , dont know where ya got it , but there are videos here on how to identify fake mopar filters.. the pletting is exactly the same as the SRT filter you are showing , watch some youtube videos you will see what im talking about

You absolutely could, wicks makes fantastic filters, and they may actually even make the SRT filter.

I have used the Wix 57899 XP on my 392 and is VERY similar in construction to the SRT filter, HOWEVER there is some speculation that the XP filter media is not up to par in terms of actual efficiency (filters at a higher micron for supporting longer drain intervals). WIX also does not list the nominal micron rating on the 57899XP, which is also unusual. Wix 57063 is the direct cross reference for the SRT filter and is made in the same Poland plant as the SRT filter, but good luck finding it in stock at a parts store, and most people say the MO-041 SRT filter has bespoke filtering media. I’m back to using the tried and true SRT filter.

It can Easily cause bearings destruction !!! ! !!! why use the filtering media as a dirt holding area until the oil washes it off the media & thru the bypass.a truely dumbass idea.so your basically sending a ton of dirt to your bearings when the bypass opens.the bypass at the entrance is a MUCH better idea.keeps the dirt IN the media, not wash it off back into the oil flow thru the bypass.

This is such a joke trying to find the factory replacement filter for my 2021 charger r/t 5.7. Every site has a different number and says the number from the last site won’t fit. 4892339be. 04884899ab. 04884899ac.4892339be again. Lastly 5038041AA is said to be compatible but the higher quality srt version. This is crazy!
