Motorcraft filters are the only filter I have used in my Ford vehicles for 30 years. I have been using the FL820S in my vehicles for the past 22 years and prior to that I used FL1A's on my 5.0 Mustangs. Never had a failure or malfunction and never an oil related issue for all of those years and hundreds of thousands of miles. My 1994 Lincoln Mark VIII had over 300,000 miles on it. My current car is a 2006 Crown Victoria with 160,000 miles and still runs perfect.

Pretty much the same oil filters. I'd have to go with the Motorcraft as it's got the silicone anti drain back valve, better inlet holes, and cost several dollars cheaper.

They are very nice, for OEM...great design in the top By-Pass . Motorcraft gives you a silicone ADBV , and is cheaper. MOPAR must need to keeps its shareholders happier with that Price...Thanx WCW! ....Jethro

Great video exploration. If memory serves, they're both made under cotract by the Purolator folks in the Carolinas which is now owned by MANN+Hummel. Which is also where they make the NAPA and MicroGard filters as well. Good, high quality filters as I remember.

Great video for me! I have a 2013 Ram with the 5.7 hemi and a 1995 Ford Thunderbird with the 4.6 2v. Both filters fit both vehicles! Guess I'm going with the motorcraft.

For the price, you can't get a better quality filter than the Motorcraft. I even know Dodge/Mopar guys who use them. Sure there are higher end filters out there, for over $10 to $15. But for $4 at Walmart you will not find another filter of this high a quality level.

On old engines I like the upper bypass, quick return, not dragging the sludge back up the center and possible jamming open those disc valves.. i just bought mopars to pull off the 6 mo. Old toughguard fram. Now I know they be a paper disc ends.

good filters - correct location of the by-pass valve - solves the problem of high-quality oil filtration, but both lack a good coil spring to correctly press the filter to the base plate

Right on! These stamped leaf springs are flimsy and can collapse unlike the beefier bypass stamped leaf springs you find in some of the Supertech.

Although we see many filter testers raving about the poor quality of the stamped metal spring, the coil spring gives NO ADVANTAGE over the stamped metal spring. Notice that two (2) of the most expensive oil filters (Amsoil, Royal Purple) also use the stamped spring. The stamped spring has NO EFFECT on the Relief Valve Pressure -- it just holds the filter guts in place. The famous 95 MERC's V-8 engine runs Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, 5-W-20; Bosch Premium #3410 Oil Filter; and a FILTERMAG #SS365PR Magnet Kit. Oil & Filter changes at 5,000 miles.

In all your videos that I've seen, the actual By-Pass valves have tiny coil springs, set at different pressures. In fact, your videos show that 2 of the MOST EXPENSIVE oil filters (Amsoil, Royal Purple) use the stamped leaf spring to hold the filter guts in place.

Yeah I own a 1998 Ford F150 4.2 L. I only use Motorcraft parts. Valvoline 5w-20 high mileage oil. It runs like a charm.

Just a question and maybe a video idea. Have you ever looked into what type of glue they use and how it reacts to oil or temp? It would be interesting possibly to have a better understanding of why they are ok with getting glue everywhere

I haven't but Ive opened a few used filters and the glue always seems to be hard and intact. I dont think there's a problem there except for sloppiness.

There are a lot more louvers then holes. You can be sure FORD has an equal in-flow to out flow ratio with filter material in place. They value their motors also. And want them to last. Reputation and all..

Good video , I have a 21 f250 . Just took off the factory filter , it had a spring at the bottom not the molded metal setup . Wonder why they do that from the factory . Was happy with the filter after chopping it up . A few break in metals but not bad . It was 900 miles . Put a 820s on .

This Motorcraft filter fits the Mercury Marquis/Ford Crown Vic plus several others. I buy mine on eBay $52.68 for (12) FL820S filters.

Motorcraft FL 820S Mopar uses a plain rubber bypass valve versus Motorcraft with the red silicone valve. The silicone is superior and all Motorcraft filters that use them have the S at the end of the part number. Both filters have the same thread ended bypass valve which allows the oil to bypass without going through the filter media. Motorcraft takes the win over Mopar, you can’t go wrong with it. Using an aftermarket without the proper bypass valve will create issues in these motors. Motorcraft oil filters with the bypass valve on the thread end are superior to any oil filter you will find. I also found that the Mopar filter was causing a ticking issue that I pinpointed down to the filter by using a stethoscope. When I went with Motorcraft, the ticking went away.

I would guess the 22 is the year it was made but I'm not sure. I don't know how to decipher the Mopar date code. I have learned how to decipher the Motorcraft oil filter date code and it was made on July 6th, 2021.

@@WhipCityWrencher thanks a lot for the quick reply. it is very important for me because yesterday they changed my oil at the service. I waited a week for the filter, then they told me that it was a different one, but that they would get a new one within an hour. which I thought was strange. but they sold me the car with the fact that the oil and filter had been changed. When I got home, I noticed that the invoice says 0W20 oil, but the RAM 1500 5.7 includes 5W20, so I got under the car to check. But the oil filter seems to be old, original and they didn't even touch it. Only if the number below indicated the year of manufacture, then it would be fine. So I don't know if I should go and complain to the service technician.

@@batlife76 That sucks. The date code really won't tell you much because I've gotten new filters that were a few years old (old stock). If the filter looks old on the outside then it probably hasn't been changed. The New filter should look and be clean. I'd look at the dipstick too, the oil should look clean also. Good Luck👍💯
