I've never seen so much hype over filters until the advent of YT. Most of it absolutely nonsensical parameters and specs. People should realize that the Fram orange cans and their generic equivalents protect roughly 70% of all cars on the road today. Between myself and the other owner of our machine/speed shop, we have 70 years of building/rebuilding/repairing all sorts of engines. We could only think of maybe a couple of times we could PROVE a filter was responsible for damage to a block. We have seen cross threading, double gasketing and just the wrong filter installed but never has someone given us a lump saying that the filter did it. I've seen the aforementioned "Orange Cans of Death" on $300k Ferrari engines(the owner does his own changes ever 1000 miles) and they are fine. Use the OEM filter for whatever you have if you have any doubt. Nothing at all wrong with Fram. The cheap ones are made out of less expensive materials so(wait for it) they can SELL them at $4 and still turn a profit. The only thing a more expensive filter can offer is possibly more capacity but if you're doing 3-5k mi OCI's...virtually anything will work. Unless you're living in a very dirty/dusty area, just stick to OEM and stop watching people cutting open cans proclaiming things they no little about.

What's wrong showing the build quality of a filter, the media, metal end caps vs fiber board, surface area of filtration, etc. I agree with you regarding Fram ExtraGuard. I used it many years ago and never once had a problem.

Actually same here: some 40 years doing my own on four vehicles.....lots of FRAM STUFF......not so much FRAM lately....Anyways: I must admit, that a quality Product seem prefarable for my two,vehicles.... interestingly I did get an *OEM **MOPAR oil Filter, @ my local Walmart , to,replace the Dealer PERFORMAX ( now labeled made IN USA,ETC), seemed to be a great Product: with my gross usage and observations :: though generally I,use ROYAL PURPLE or NAPA GOLD/ WIX( I,knoW NOT FULL SYN,ETC) on my Vehicles ( @2015 JOURNEY/4 CYL AND 2007. GMC CANYON SL/4 CYL........).

"The other filter that comes to mind is the Purolator." The MO-339 is made by Purolator for FCA Mopar. Compare it to the equivalent Purolator Red L12222 and you'll see how similar they are, excluding can paint.

Interesting. I know Mann-Hummel manufactures Purolator. I wasn't aware of the Mopar connection. Thanks for the heads up.
@faxmen09
@faxmen09 7 жыл бұрын
M&H owns Purolator, solely since 2013. They also own Wix since last year. The US made filters though still look like Purolator and Wix made filters respectively. The Mann labeled filters made in Germany look noticeably different. Yes, Purolator makes many Mopar spin on filters as well as Motorcraft spin on filters.

From what I understand those (black) Mopar filters are made by purolator. They used to be made by fram but not last I heard. Thats why the quality of build reminded you of purolator. I would be curious to see if you compared the part numbers on that seal from inside the filter to the purolator filter to see if they're the same ;)

@@caliber8 the filtration rate is actually 98.7% which is pretty good for a filter. My filter is usually $8, so I can’t complain. Considering I change my oil every 3k. I don’t really have any worries. Plus, the Pennz Platinum that is recommended is made from natural gas, so it stays incredibly clean.

That is the one im using in my dodge. You can't go wrong with genuine oem parts. The oil change intervals for this 2.4l engine are duty based with the oil life monitor, not to exceed 8k miles conventional oil, or synthetic if you want to. At Walmart where I got mine, the frame and super tech are cheaper, the mobil 1 and kn are at or a few dollars more, but the fact that it is OEM makes me buy it. And yes, it IS just under $10 at Walmart.

@@Texas2121 I meant to say that I bought those parts at Walmart, not that I have my vehicle serviced there. Also, even though my comment is 4 years old, my vehicle’s engine is still working well at 250k miles and 12 years based on me trusting the oil life monitor. I wouldn’t take my vehicle to any quick lube for an oil change, They will never reinstall the under shield properly and they also will always give cheap oil even if you pay extra for synthetic.

Did you not see the "includes paid promotion" disclaimer below your screen? Of course he's going to say it's a good filter. Premium Guard is a very basic filter manufactured in China for quickie lube places. And you can get them all day on Rock Auto for a buck and some change per filter, so if you're paying 8 bucks for one, then you're a bigger moron than I thought.
