The only thing Ganondorf would need is a Spirit that gives him a lightweight attribute. The moment you speed him up and add some extra jump height, he starts becoming a little more scary.

that would be crazy lol. Stu, the ganon main i mentioned during the video, told me ganon would easily go up to the mid tiers if side-b didn’t put him in free fall. give it the incineroar treatment

@@crazydragonstudios7259 There's a lightweight spirit in the DLC spirit boards you get for buying the Terry DLC and the Banjo & Kazooie DLC. The Terry spirit is named Geese Howard and the Banjo & Kazooie spirit and named Jiggie. There are some other spirits that don't require DLC, but buying the Terry and Banjo DLCs are your best bet for consistently getting lightweight spirits.

There was a Nintendo tournament some months ago where grand finals was Major vs Era. For those who don't know these players, it was Ganondorf Vs Steve. As if it was not ironic enough to have the complete opposite ends of the tier list in a GF, the match was surprisingly close. Ganondorf breaks blocks by breathing and all of his aerials beat minecart and anvil. It was wild. Ever since then, my biggest hot take in Ultimate is that Ganon-Steve is an even matchup.

I saw his Gannon jab a block wall and aerial flame choke Steve through a one block space. Legitimate counter pick. Between major and MGK I genuinely believe Gannondorf is way better than people think there’s a lot of cool tech.

Going over the K. Rool matchup made me realize that if there were more fighters of an archetype that relies on armor, Ganon would be a lot better.

I think when you're used to your character having to work so hard in any matchup, an even matchup feels like a winning matchup. Any of these characters can still abuse Ganon weaknesses, as much as he can exploit theirs. Definitly even matchups for me.

As a Ganon main, what makes Ganon so bad is that he has a lot of moves in his tool kit that are honestly useless in competitive play. Up-tilt, Warlock punch, and his aerial down-B needs to be changed to something more useful. I can work around his bad recovery, but if Ganon was able to fully use his entire tool kit, he would be scary and at least be a Top 30 character. IMO

Rickles also thinks Lucina loses to Ganon. As a Lucina main myself, I wouldn't say that she loses but she does have to work harder. Like, if she's not converting her edge guards or dominating neutral things can go south real quick. I actually prefer Roy in that matchup. It feels a lot better since he matches Ganon's kill power and combos him harder.

Against Ganon, I can see Lucina potentially doing worse than Roy because her frame data is worse than his and she has to play more defensively. She’s got port priority but she’s like a deceptive Rush down in comparison to Roy.

@twinkling_topaz14 Ultimate Frame Data. Lucina’s Aerials have more end lag than Roy does. With lesser end lag it makes it more sufficient for Roy to get in and make combos.

Ganon pgr stats has lucario as his "best" match up. Its a 4.8 record. Meaning, he wins 48% of the time, so ganons best matchup is himself at a 50/50 match up.

@@aann What about using up smash on ledge against the opponent's shield, causing him to be pushed off the ledge and for the up smash's end lag to cancel allowing you to side B immediately? (I've seen MGK do this)

@@aann I would like to recommend the instant lagless ledge get up back air, wiz kick ledge cancel combo shenanigans, or the up smash on shield at ledge into ledge cancel that can lead to flame choke mix up’s on ground and back air shield breaks on platforms (MGK has great tutorials)

Not sure if this is just me but as a ganon main I cant actually remember the last time I lost to captain falcon. Its like playing against a weaker version of ganon but with the same weaknesses to exploit. I know he is also much faster but for some reason this isnt as much of a problem as it is for other characters in the matchup.

What’s interesting is that I saw a Japanese Ganon MU chart (by a top smashmate player) with Bowser and Incin in +2 and Ryu and Doc at +1 with a good amount of even mus. Still the worst character in the game but it’s cool you can argue over mus depsite viability.

Ganon's biggest weaknesses is that he has no real defensive options. If you look at other brawler heavies that fair better in competitive play, namely Bowser and Incineroar, you notice that they have decent or even great get-off-me tools. Bowser has i-frames on his up b, and Incineroar has super armor on his up b and revenge. Ganon would be so much better if he had literally any defensive options that prevent rush down characters from walking all over him. The next step would be to give him ways to deal with projectiles, since ultimate has such zoner heavy favoritism.

I think the worst thing about Ganon is that your opponent can kind of enforce their win condition on you with the risk reward of interactions usually being in their favour

Good thing about Ultimate is it's super balanced overall, so even Ganondorf players can find a lot of success if they put the time/effort into the character.

I think this is a solid list. All too often, players want to throw up their hands and pretend like Ganondorf has nothing going for him at all, and therefore he wins zero matchups. Optimism goes a long way, unlike the constant negativity that ensures Ganon will never progress as a character. Personally, I think Ganon wins at least 3-5 matchups and has a notable amount of even ones

As a K. Rool main I did fight Rickles and did take a game off of him but I was rusty. I do honestly think it's even to K. Rool favored. He has different options to edge guard and can bait out attacks to punish. I honestly think K. Rool does well against some high and top tiers like Peach and Cloud. I do see this a lot but no I don't see Lucario losing to Ganon. As he gets Aura, his neutral becomes better with aura sphere and force palm. He also can get edge guard Ganon definitely hard.

I don't play as Ganondorf, but watching my two amiibo, Sephiroth and Joker, beat the snot out of him during Team Battle sure is fun! Heck, I think they adapted to his playstyle so well, they KNOW when Warlock Punch is coming, which is scary! But sometimes they fall victim to Captain Falcon's Falcon Punch, which has actually happened more than once.

First off, great video. Like the way you present everything from the editing to the script, it flows very easily. But my problem is with the match ups. King k Rool- he doesn't lose. At best for Ganon it's a 55-45 in King k's favor and at worse its a 65-35. Thing is, King k wins most trades with his armor moves and can for Ganon to approach and Ganon doesn't do well vs his armor, his shield or projectiles. His strongest moves are too slow and his fastest moves get beaten out. King k can also can drift back and throw crown, throw a projectile and stuff an air approach with fair, canon can such up Ganon and throw him in the air or off stage, and throwing out nair a bit earlier or baiting a high recovery from Ganon are very viable options that Ganon can't do back. Next, if you want a winning match up for Ganon, DDD is right there. His projectile is ass, his moves are slow, Ganon can actually ledge/edge guard him and he's doesn't have a good way to get Ganon off of him while also having a poor combo game to punish Ganon. Last is Lucario. He has a decent punish game against Ganon and becomes a threat around 50-60 percent. Ya, he's light but he doesn't have to try hard to kill Ganon, especially if he gets the stock lead and he has aura sphere to help cover most ledge options and can just harass Ganon with them, especially when he's over 90%. Ganon kills him early but thats about it, he doesn't have anything really above Lucario aside from weight and that they both can edge/ledge guard each other reliably

Ultimate is what I call a zoners paradise. Some zoners are so oppressive that you can’t get in at all. (R.O.B) In Smash you could power shield approach an item. In Ultimate it is not even an option

The reason I understand for Ganondorf, He’s slow due to his heavyweight and his mobility and his neutral game is not good, He has to play neutral game and approach to his opponent but his sluggishness makes him really more difficult for him to be effective and self aware and playing very proactively against them! His recovery is bad but his attacks are strong but balanced in this game if you play very maneuverable with his recovery if you get hit while your jump is already use he’s dead! He is easy to play as well but struggles at everything!

I would argue that puff actually struggles. Dies obscenely early, and has very little range. Still runs circles around ganon, but fox does the same and faces what I imagine are similar issues.

Look Nairo's Ganon against Light's Fox and there you have it, Fox also struggles with Ganon because Ganon is probably the character that kills more early in the game and Fox is one of the most dying early character😅😅

Curiosamente Steve que es el mejor personaje del juego tiene muy malos matchups con los botom tier por la misma razón pero con diferente método. Uno es la planta piraña que puede deshacer los bloques de steve con el veneno de manera inmediata o atravesar el muro con un down tilt para romper el bloque inferior y un dash atack para atravesar el muro y alcanzar a Steve o usar la espina que ignora el muro por el ángulo de lanzamiento haciendo que los bloques jueguen en contra de Steve. El otro es Ganondorf, sus ataques son tan fuertes que atraviesa todo. Todo un muro puede romperse con solo 1 F-Air reduciendo el tiempo para sacar materiales, el vagon puede ser interrumpido tanto por F-Air, Up-Air y B-Air, el yunke puede ser bloqueado por un Up-Air. Y como último Steve su edgegard es inofensivo para Ganondorf, ya que busca poner bloques para que no llegue al borde pero Ganondorf los rompe muy fácilmente con Up-Air o esperando para saltar hasta el último momento o buscar los 2 frames en lo que se cuelga lo cual Ganondorf ya no tiene que preocuparse por gastarse sus preciosos recursos de recuperación en esquivar proyectiles o que el propio Steve vaya a buscarte.

6:58 WILD take right here and I 110 percent disagree. K rool’s recovery goes much further and he has better air drift. Simply having an up b that grabs can help but nair is so giant and quick that you can beat it out before he even up bs or space yourself correctly so it hits him anyway. Even if it does hit k rool he can always tech the stage and re attempt to edgeguard him. There’s no risk as he can make it back from the bottom

I agree with marth and lucina. They are light, a ganons' best tool is watching his opponent and understanding their patterns because big reads pay in stocks. With Marth and luncina Kill, percentage is 40% dam near, and a smash attack read can easily do that. Trading at higher pecents means a ganon can bully his way in without much consequences. Plus, ganons sword and down tilt out range their sword and all kill. I think the more competent ganons can figure it out pretty quick

Being light doesn't necessarily mean you lose harder, yeah you explode but that doesn't make you necessarily bad against a heavy.

@The-ne9ut that is true, plus they have speed, combos and a decent recovery that can be hard to edge guard. But having no projectiles means you need to approach with a sword that can be out ranged by character that can easily take your stock in his range. I feel the same way about puff too

I've always found the Ganon Fox mu to be one of Ultimate's most interesting. I know it's obvious Fox wins this, but considering just how strong Fox is and how weak Ganondorf is, momentum shouldn't shift this easily.

Its something more on the personal side but for some reason my ganon tends to beat out a friends byleth. it seems byleth kinda struggles being conditioned on wich ganon excels on certain scenarios and byleth being a tether character means they are sorta vulnerable to off stage nair since it last a good amount and has good knockback. if it wasnt for failnaught it might be an even matchup if we are being extra generous, Just an opinion from a ganondorf secondary tho.

Aura gets countered by Ganon in theory but it's hard to take advantage of strong moves when Lucario has kinda stubby hitboxes and really no good high damage combos to keep him in the lead(Yes ik camping vs Ganon is cracked but despite that he tends to give me almost the same amount of damage back and I usually have to go for much more commital options than him for kills bc Lucario's stubby moves don't work for kills a lot of times when Ganon has those big moves that kill early, and it's not like you can do easy punishes to stay in the lead when side b and down b kill that late) I main Lucario and I feel like this mu is even or slightly losing (I don't tend to have specifically a heavy problem: I feel like Krool is an easy win with enough mu experience and Bowser is a slightly winning mu for me. But despite that I do definitely have problems with some heavies mostly Kazuya and DK[I just counter pick Fox if I need to] Incineroar is a hard mu to learn but I think it can be either even or slightly losing) Edit: when I say Aura loses in theory I mean if you give aura to someone not balanced around it then it can be pretty good just don't give it to the top 10 lightest characters

I think Ganondorf is underrated! He has attributes better than Doc Mario and Little Mac. They are faster yes, but I feel like Ganon has a few more strategies than those characters.

Nah Doc still eats Ganon imo. Completely stuffs him in neutral with pill, edgeguards him right back and better, far better combos on him and actual kill confirms too, and has the kill power to legit fight back unlike a lot of characters at mid percent

as someone who play a lot of Ganon (not in tournament cause...well...), i agree on Doc and K rool. I disagree on Lucario. You slighly mentioned it at the end, but i think his mobility is a big deal, it's very easy to circle camp Ganon and that's already a big problem in the MU. Aura sphere is a bigger problem than what you made it sound like too, it's simple a tool that forces Ganon to approach, and at the end of the day Lucario can die early, yes, but aura start to be dangerous already at 80/90% and a smart Lucario will make it difficult to kill at that percent, Ganon will have to take risks in the MU, which is what makes him bad in pretty much every MUs. And the comeback factor is always there, no matter if Ganon can kill early, if for some reasons he isn't able to which is always a possible, Lucario can obliterate stocks in 2 hits. Ledge trap is also rough when Lucario has aura with that aura sphere.
