After watching the interview with the guy from Koenigsegg, this just proves how uncompetent these guys and car seem. They didn't need all those GPS redundancies, just don't cheat. The car can't cope with full power, the team doesn't know how the car performs, why do all those passes. Niklas Lilja single handedly ran the whole successfull Koenigsegg record attempt in a couple of hours. Just because SSC have big HP numbers and CFD cdA numbers, doesn't mean they can safely and reliably run a record. The cheated for a reason the first time.
@jamiewilkinsracing3 жыл бұрын
Exactly my thoughts too.
@Scholzey3 жыл бұрын
I thought you said you watched the interview with Koenigsegg guy. They clearly said they were tweaking and running Sims and tweaking for months to get the suspension Perfect for the higher speeds which was reflected in their low tire temps at the end of their runs. One thing that does stand out though, this is a street car that needs to work at a wide range of temps and conditions and fuel types. Having to ice the car down and having high egt and intake temps shows its not as well of a thought out system as Koenigsegg's run what you brung setup(after preparing). The fact that they damaged plugs shows their tune wasn't thorough enough. I also don't think they lost 2 cylinders. But 2 cylinders starting to miss is more likely. Having said that... If they did lose 2 cylinders and the car wasn't telling the driver to stop is a little concerning. I would be worried about full fuel going in without spark and washing the cylinders. What was likely was the driver felt the car start to miss and let out as its quite noticeable when you have a decent amount of power.
@deaningeveale72653 жыл бұрын
It is normal to do multiple passes to build up to the full potential of the car. This is for many reasons which were mentioned in the video. You don't just hop in and go for it with this sort of thing unless you want to needlessly break things and kill people.

SSC have taken a drag spec engine and crossed their fingers it could hold together. Now they're paying the price and finding out why Koenigsegg and VW haven't hit 330mph yet. A car that gets iced down then overheats after a half run isn't close to thermally stable enough to do the top speed runs it claims. 250mph from a roll would mean it was flat out for what - sub 10 seconds? But for a 330mph run it would probably have to be flat out for the best part of a minute. Thats not even in the same stratosphere.

Yes... Well. Nobody said these cars would be slow. This SSC and the Hennessey. But like I mentioned before. Its easy to pile on the power and speed when these cars never have to meet today's crash and emissions certifications. How are these "production cars" I know they get exceptions from every rule in the book due to low volume manufacture. So they have number plates on them. But where are they even road legal. How are these "production cars". The only way they get to have number plates is by applying for, and being granted lenience from every rule in the book. And thats great for them. But if I was going to choose either of these OVER a Bugatti or a Koenigsegg, then these are things I would be very concerned with. And if they are not fully federalized production cars... How are they claiming production car world records. These are not frivolous concerns and I think its increasingly strange how this is never addressed. Would you get behind a Nurburgring lap record set by a company that creates cars that are not crash-tested, not homologized, not government-approved, only road legal under certain circumstances? Cool to see the continuation of the story, bro. Its amazing how you suddenly are in the middle of this now. Like a pro influencer.
@chasingsol3 жыл бұрын
This is a really good point. As an example, Christian von Koenigsegg has stated that the Jesko is homologated world-wide and went through crash testing, something that is apparently uncommon in the low production number hypercar market. I guess it depends on your definition of production car.
@captain_context99913 жыл бұрын
@@chasingsol Thats the thing. There are clear rules and regulations for what is and isnt a production car. Its absolutely not up to personal opinion or your own definition. Koenigsegg and Rimac, for example, make big points out of this and take great pride in their homologation and how they are road legal PRODUCTION cars in every single country, on every market. Because thats what 80% of their engineering, money and mapower is spent on. But in the US, they have special lenience from the law that you can apply for if you make no more than 3-4-500 cars a year. Then you are completely off the hook. You dont have to do any of the hard work to become road legal. You just get numberplates in the mail and good luck. Further, SSC and Hennessey are not car builders. They do not own their own plants. So Im not sure about liability and such. But thats another issue entirely. But imagine doing 250 mph in a car that was never required to pass a crash test. Im sure the company will say its safer than your average Golf. And how everything is carbon just like in F1... Sure... But it hasnt been tested. Not outside a 3d program.

Big numbers and they cant even keep the engine cool lol, you can do that in a bugatti chiron all day, just add fuel and tyres and that it.

Not only that, but bugatti struggled because the car cooled too much
@manelpelayo27533 жыл бұрын
They had 10 radiators in the car so it should stay cool but you never knew what bugatti did to the car between top speed runs. Everyone that does top speed runs need to cool down the car, using ice bags all over the drivetrain or keeping the cooling system running even with the motor shut off. As Robert said, if you ever watch a drag race event, everyone cools their car in one way or another because if you don't do it the car isn't going to perform at its 100% ability and are going to end up hurting the drivetrain

Compared to last time, they are completely transparent with everything, which is good. But I think that they should also be completely transparent with their homologation, because as far as I know they are not world wide homologated, emissions compliant, crash tested and so on. In my opinion the fastest production car should be world wide homologated and fully emissions compliant, which is why I wouldn't count bugattis 304 even if they did it on both directions, since the car was a pre-production prototype. Otherwise, if you wanted to make the fastest car you could "just" make it for a market with very minimal emissions regulations, and squeeze a stupid amount of power out of it. So even if the tuatara does go 300+ or whatever, I won't count it as a true record.

great video and glad you went there. i dont wanna be to negative, but some things went threw my mind. its a bit like a "hobby" tuner gets everything out of his car for the quarter mile / half mile run at an event. there may be overheating, breaking things etc. but in my eyes that should not happen with a "production car" that allready got sold. i am a poor guy, but if i would be rich and thinking about buying a car like this, that would be more than a redflag for me. i dont wanna sound like a fanboy, but i am quite sure the chiron or the jesko could make more horsepower like this, if they didnt built in enough of a safety net for the cooling etc. glad ssc tried to be open in sharing everything, but in my personal opinion that left even a worse feeling of the car. do i see this wrong guys?

definitly bugatti can easily make the engine to give 1700 maybe even 1800 HP , but the points you've mentioned are critical , I have witnessed an event , and there was a bugatti chiron also , the day was really hot , and bugatti that day made maybe 12 or even more runs , without any problem .
