I knew right away that there was something completely off on this one when watching it first on the statesidesupercars channel. Very rare to see an GT2RS understeering and going wide like that, especially on and/or after the corner apex. Glad that you and the car came out "as ok as possible", could've obviously been a lot worse after all...

Great save, and that "oh shit" face is hilarious. This video is the textbook case as to why anyone should never drive at the limit in TF, you never know what is happening ahead. In this case, as you said, going faster would've ended a lot worse for you. Always have a safety margin so that you can react as best you can in this kind of moment.

I think one of the main points to take from these type of incidents is not to panic. Any hard inputs could backfire, so to roll with what you have and keep the car as straight as you did, was by far and away the best opportunity to avoid disaster. Well driven Robert, some quick judgement there whether you were concious of it or not 👍🏻

Excellent video analysis Robert, one of the best on track video explanations I've seen. It was interesting to know your thought process from the entry into Brünnchen, to seeing the dust and knowing that you have to scrub the speed off, whilst checking up track for the other car. Then having spotted the coolant and leaving you with a tough choice of do I stick the car into the barrier or try and push though. You did well to hold it and drive away with so little damage. I had to watch the onboard video a couple of times before I noticed the coolant on the track.

A 22 minute video about how it was pure luck that the car didn’t end up in the barrier. There were two thought processes. ‘Ah the dust isn’t someone in the barrier’ and ‘oh shit I’m heading into the barrier’. Not a chance that he spotted the coolant until he watched the video.

This is why I like riding my XT 250 in the dirt. It’s great cross training and makes my street riding better in so many ways. Sliding around turns using the throttle or making quick reactions through the bumps to keep it smooth, you can get more excitement in a couple of hours of dirt than a years worth of responsible street riding. Even track days don’t let you ride with the same “looseness” that is normal in the dirt. Those skills can serve you well in situations where you have to rely on instinct and are purely reacting. It’s great cross training.
