Dear sir, I have a trouble with my m.2 SSD which used to be installed in a MS Surface Book 2. It used to be detectable at first, now it's preventing even healthy systems from booting when connected to a secondary slot. Apart from that the whole SSD becomes really hot (waay hotter than normal). I am wondering if in such case one can diagnose anything without (de)soldering the controller and capacitors or is it only possble through a deep intervention?

Diagnosing with a thermal camera, multimeter, etc, yes. But to get it working, it may need component replacement or repair depending on what the problem is.

I have an M.2 SSD and when I try to boot up the computer it says no media found. I took out the SSD and plugged it into my laptop to see if it could read it and it does see the drive, but doesn’t provide any information about the storage or how full the drive is. I downloaded 2 softwares to see if it could read the drive and they do! They show the storage and how full they are but I still can’t access any folders internally in the drive! could I fix the drive with software? or do I need to seek a professional to get the data off for me?

Not sure if the SSD can be repaired, as I don't have it in my hands to test it properly, but tyoically it cannot be reoaired. The generalized recovery process is: clone data to another drive, then scan and recover files to another drive.

Hey! I got an NVME SSD which previously was bitlocker encrypted. Well the SSD said "nope" one day, caused a bluescreen and got renderet unbootable. I tried connecting the "dead" SSD via a USB adapter, and Windows is not detecting anything. Just assigning that thing a letter and is done with it. Checking the partition manager leads to nothing. No partition info or whatsoever. Soooo.... how should I proceed trying to get the data from it? There is only one file I really need on it. Do you have any suggestions? :o
@Datarecoveryguru1

The first concern is establishing [trying to at least] whether the SSD is healthy from a hardware perspective or not. Search for "SSD SMART Health Status " tools, such Crystal Disk Info, SmartmonTools, etc. If no concerns, then it is recommended to clone to another hard drive, just to precent any screw ups. Then decrypt Bitlocker volume (m3datarecovery.com may help). Finally extract the files. You will the Bitlocker Recovery Key to be sucessful.

SSDs have a limited amount of write cycles. On low quality [cheap] SSDs, the NAND flash chips are highly likely to fail quicker. As a result, they develop flash degradation. In the background, the controller is working really hard [making it hot] trying to remediate the problem as best as it can by reallocation any bad blocks of data via overprovisining.

I saw in bios > storage > pci ssd - ( blank ) the size is not showing its blank there. In the name section only shows- pcie 3 ssd (not crucial) What is the reason?? I also tried in another port didn't worked also the nvme got super hot in 30 seconds like i am using it from hours. Also i tried to install new window it shows only 1mb size i dont know what's that

On a 2nd thought, I don't think there is a "NVMe to SATA adapter" easily available. There is only one made by Ace Labs in Russia that only works with their ~$13,000 tool. So not practical. Maybe in the near future one will be made available. Or search thoroughly, maybe one has come on the market.
@Datarecoveryguru1
@Datarecoveryguru1 3 жыл бұрын
@@AkozdemiR I watched the video, so I could understand why you are asking what you are asking more thoroughly. In the video, the SSD that is worked on is an apple SSD that uses proprietary Apple protocols (there is an adapter for that as shown in the video), which is different than the NVMe SSD you probably have (there is no SATA adapter for that, except the one by Ace Lab, which works with their tool only). In the video, toward the end, we mention "if you need help with NVMe SSDs..." then we would be currently using an NVMe-to-USB adapter along with other hardware equipment to access those drives. So, o our knowledge,, there is no non-proprietary adapter on the market currently available for NVMe-to-SATA. Therefore, cannot make a suggestion, sorry.

I have a system I just put together, an HP Elitedesk G4 Mini bought online. It came with a 256 Gig NVMe ssd installed and an extra slot for another. I decided to add storage so purchased a Crucial 1 terabyte ssd and formatted it, worked fine. Then I got greedy and decided I wanted to max the system at 2 terabytes. So I bought another 1 terabyte ssd and cloned the 256 gig boot drive to this brand new unformatted ssd. I had taken the previous 1 gig ssd and put it aside. The cloned drive works perfectly but the first 1 terabyte ssd which was previously formatted and working fine as storage now doesn't show up as a volume. The bios can see it as well as device manager (reported working perfectly) and the usb connection utility. Nowhere else will it show up even opening a terminal and using the command "list disk". What could cause this? The system is so new there was no data to worry about although I notice my restore point is gone in system restore.

Hey seeking your advice cause I can't find a good answer elsewhere - i had a Blue screen and then after it restarted there's no bootable drive - i go to bios and the nvme boot drive is now defined as "disabled" - I try to reinstall Windows using media device and its not in the options but when I click on media it shows as Drive :x - I saw an article that this was a virus but am not sure if I can format it anywhere or if its dead already.
