I attended the funeral of a relative who was a green beret. It was the most respectful funeral I've ever attended. I think his entire unit was there. At the conclusion they presented his beret to his infant son. There was not a dry eye in the church. Members of the unit escorted his body home and were at the disposal of his family for several days. Mainly tending to his parents, running errands, doing chores, etc. Very impressive young men.

Love this reaction. I grew up with this song, it played a lot in our house, each of my brothers and parents were in different branches at varying ranks, get togethers were a comedic 'whip it out' contest, it was hilarious. As the moonshine passed around, the contest changed to a tale sharing camaraderie. Thank you for the explanation.

Great reaction, guys. I was in SF back in the early 70s, and listening to Sadler brings back a lot of memories. SF was/is a "different" Army, indeed. Back in those days--1950, 1960, and 1970-- there were men on our teams who were from Eastern European countries--interesting characters and such solid friends. Had come to the States with their parents after WWII and joined the Army and SF. In our company (A/3-5th) we had one guy who had been in the Hitler Youth; another had served in the French Foreign Legion. Lots of stories. Check out, and maybe react to, one of the many KZbin videos about Larry Thorne, (or, Lauri Torni) a veritable SF legend. Larry was a Finn and fought in that army as a lieutenant, then in the German Waffen-SS as a captain, and then in the US Army as a major. He was Missing in Action while running a recon mission in Laos, his remains not being recovered until 1999 and not being identified until 2003. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Inducted in Special Operations Command Hall of Honor. Excellent Wikipedia article. Lastly, you might also react to "The Purple Heart Song" on KZbin by Sergeant Jim Tolbert. Best wishes! ODA-572 and ODA-575 "The Quiet Professionals"

Good reaction and interesting info. When I was 9 years old, my class sang that song over the PA at school to honor a local soldier who had died in Vietnam. Try having 4 brothers (my cousins) all in different branches of the Military who also just happened to be in their chosen branch's special forces. The stories that I heard from my aunt when all 4 brothers were home at the same time which was very rare. none of them ever disrespected each other for their choice of Military branch but My aunt used to say that it was like having her grown sons turn into little boys who would try to kill each other only this time they could. However when my aunt did a certain type of bell ringing it meant knock it off and come inside for dinner. When My aunt told you to do something you better do it even if you were special forces. Of course this was a woman who sent a Karen to the hospital for disrespecting 'THE MOMENT OF SILENCE' To which my aunt had to go as well as the Karen had gotten some hits in but the Karen went to jail after she was taken to the Hospital while my Aunt stayed in the hospital. She also had an MP who the Karen attacked verify everything. Here is the thing is was not the worst in a good way thing my Aunt had ever done when someone was being disrespectful to anything relating to the Military. One of her sons said that my aunt should have been able to join The Special Forces as she would have been able to just scare away the enemy with her glare.

SEALs kill targets. Ranges crush skulls and take objectives. Special Forces can topple countries. All these various groups are special operations. Special Forces are a specific group at the same level as Rangers but have different missions and skills. Both of them are Tier 2 units along with SEALs. However both the Rangers and SEALs have a sub section so to speak that are both tier 1. Those are the Ranger Regimental Recon Company, Recce, and SEAL Team 6, aka DEVGRU. These are at the same level as army Delta.
