Hi Rick, I agree with some other commenters about the bimini and the bow lift, into the wind the bimini will give you lift if you've got speed, my little 9.8 petrol used to lift the whole boat out and the engine would cavitate, try the bowman in the centre and the young lady sitting next to you, weight distribution is the key, trying different combinations is the answer; also engine height will have an effect, the main cav plate on the engine should be level with the bottom of the hull when set straight vertical, then trim to suite, have fun with it I used to race outboards and any little fiddle can either help or hinder performance, maybe try a small whale tail, depends on what you want or need for your 'TENDER", Al the best, Al

I love your dingy. It is better than everyone's else on a Boat. It is nice. It burns the juice when loaded but it is nice and the best money can buy. I would take a few fella's and explore some of the grounded boats.. My good friend ran a Port Operation there for SSA Marine and now he is in charge of all worldwide ports they lease or own..
@taleg13 жыл бұрын
The quiet of your dingy is epic and I wish we had something like that when I were a kid and more or less spent every summer on the water. It's beyond nice and I'd love something like that my self to just play around with, make it a bit bigger with a small cabin and I'd use it for weekend sleepover during the summer because I love the sound of the world without bother some engine noise. I love the quiet where I can only hear nature and no people made sound other than those I make my self, I might be weird like that but I love that quiet. One thing I learned long ago was that you need to trim the engine according to the load and use that to get up into plane, so you should adjust that on the fly each time you change the load you carry.
@michaeltillman11473 жыл бұрын
***IDEA*** If you build an adjustable plain thingy.... Some kinda frame (bicycle forks?) with the end of a paddle pivoting between two legs and a peace of all thread attached to the leading edge for adjustments you may be able to control the plain. Adjustable for different loads. Taking the place of a jack on the motor. No clue if it'll work, but may be fun to experiment... Just remember one thing. Always. And I mean ALWAYS.... Enjoy the toys! 😎
@countrysidelivingwithtracee3 жыл бұрын
Love you guys.
@richb3133 жыл бұрын
Any time you are not on plane you are mushing through the water with maximum drag so being heavy in the bow is not necessarily good for range or speed so I would recommend mounting the battery box on rails with three or four different positions so no matter the load or conditions you would be able to adjust the trim as we Submariners call it.

Result on the prop pitch ....if the the bow man had shifted to the middle it may have lifted. The other thing to try is a turbulator strip to introduce a layer of air bubbles under the wet portion of the hull. It is a trick used on aircraft wings and flyingboat hulls to allow them to break stiction with the water as they try to get up on the step...otherwise on glassy water they could struggle to break free and achieve lift.

It's a sail boat using allot less fuel and your asking for more. Do you know Greenhouses use CO2 at or above 1000 ppm to get 100% plant growth to feed people. I run a IR heater to increase CO2 in my greenhouse it works. Look at the past 150,000 years for CO2 ppm and you will see we at are at a low point and climbing out of a deficit. Its never been lower than now. Percentage of CO2 in atmosphere 0.04% carbon dioxide and is called a trace gas.

@RTew0213 жыл бұрын
I think you could use a prop with an even larger "bite" than the second one you installed. Seems you want maximal bite without cavitation. That would depend on speed of course. You could graph watts vs water speed and maybe could see on the graph (a slope change) the optimal balance between speed and power. My impression is that you have way more power to turn the prop than "push" delivered to the water, so a lot of your power gets used just spinning the water, a kind of friction loss. I wonder what the mfr has to say about this. It's an interesting problem! Love your techy videos. Thanks!
@smulismuli79763 жыл бұрын
Think anyone having a boat has asked this question. What you call “bite” it’s the pitch (angle) of the prop blades. It’s not that simple because you need to find a balance between the diameter and the pitch of the prop…by default anything and everything cavitates/slips while submerged…so do your hands and feet while you are swimming. It’s not tire to tarmac stuff…

What if you moved the battery back where it was and add a water ballast tank in the forward locker. So when passengers are on board you could have the water tank empty and the weight of the battery would be further aft distributing the weight evenly. When you are by your self you can add water or take water out of the ballast tank to give you a controlled ride. Just a thought. Great job Capt Rick and Maddy.

Great effect of changing that prop. Now you're a speed demon for sure! Watch out Capitan is coming up fast! It is displaying a calculation for distance so a distance trial is in store for you now 😆 The water there had to be toxic around the area with all the abandoned ships run aground, just decaying there. Metals contamination, old high sulfur fuel oil, xylene etc,. Swimming or eat the fish from the surrounding area would be unhealthy.

Working over water has always been my concern that dropping something would be tragedy and it occurs to me watching you removing the propeller that putting something like a pan or bucket filled with water tied to the motor/dock/dingy underneath the lower drive unit would provide a safety basket to catch anything errantly dropped. Might be a use for one of those cloth panels with a flexible wire hoop that twist to compact size like those sunshades for car windshields for instance.

Capt. Rick, do you think that when you are in the Highfield alone, at speed with the nose slightly elevating, that the Bimini top might be catching air and creating drag? I know it wouldn't be much, and you aren't trying to set any speed records, but would it be worth the effort to trim the front of the Bimini lower to achieve a small degree of an airfoil effect? God bless you, Maddy and crew (especially Pirate Queen Tiki).
@clownworld-honk4103 жыл бұрын
Plastic props flex n lose propulsion with that sort of power and are only suitable for up to a few horsepower. A metal one is required for maximum efficiency / performance. The props you have been given also look like a bad shape more appropriate for v low power electric outboards
