The SSR comes with a single tube piece that joins the two frame pieces at that location. This four bolt crossmember is stiffer than the tube crossmember. This will help stabilize the SSR while driving and it can also help with the roof operations by keeping the SSR frame a bit more planted/stablized. The Trailblazer EXT also had a four bolt cross member at that location. The SSR is based on the Trailblazer EXT frame (shortened by about 13") so the four nuts are already present in the SSR frame.

Ok, going to pick that up to. You own simple engineering? Going to get heat shield, crossmember now, and the shifting metal link. Anything you recommend for an 06 that imperative? Thanks

@@bmandibles no I do not own Simple Engineering. Mike Moro is the owner of that business. I made several videos of the products he offers for the Chevy SSR. The other "must have" item is the replacement radiator cooling fan that Simple Engineering offers. The GM provided fan (a rebadged VW fan) has an extremely high failure rate. Another nice to have item is the front frame stiffening plate which greatly reduces the amount of front end shake/shimmy.
